Anyone Use V1 for City Driving

How many of you guys run the V1 in daily commute in the city? A number of you have more than one radar detector/system.

I personally find the 9500ix better suited to city driving, and V1 better suited to highway.

when I was borrowing a V1 from a fellow member, I had it for about a week, and I really didn't enjoy driving it in the city, but then again I didn't have X band or Pop mode off at the time, and when I finally did turn them off, I returned it like two days later so didn't get to much city driving to do with it

I turned off X band and POP mode to get some relief.

I do. I've grown an immunity to the false alert noise though.

I have X off and use little "L" mode with 30 second automuting on my V1. My 3.812 V1 is not pop-capable. When I use my V1 in the city, it's usually the stop lights that I hate. Around here, it seems that every intersection has some K band signal within detection range. I either have to mute the V1 at every light, or listen to K band alerts when the 30 second automute runs out. It gets old, real fast.

I use my V1 in the city, set with K and X muting on, POP off, Ka Guard on (the usual city settings for most folks, I believe). I also have a remote mute button on the back of my turn signal stalk, so I can mute easily, whenever I want. This is crucial for any good (sensitive) RD in the city and makes the drive a lot easier.

I've used a 9500ix and have to note that the "silence" is nice, but it only works in familiar territory, where it's had a chance to learn static K locations. In unfamiliar territory, and especially traveling, it doesn't work at all, because it hasn't had a chance to learn. This is true, I believe, of any sensitive RD (note the complaints about how "chatty" Redline is. Great sensitivity = fairly gabby.)

However, the 9500's RLC and speed camera alerts can be helpful in a strange city.

It will fault the first time around, but after it has the locations marked then it would lock them out, usually takes about 3 passes/readings of the same false alert before it is locked out

I do, although here in the San Angelo Metroplex the lines are a bit blurred as to what is "highway" and what is "city." I am fortunate in that there are only 2 or 3 non-threat RADAR sources along my route, and they are X and K band so they get muted. Generally speaking when my V1 goes off on my commute it's the real deal. But I realize I'm lucky in that respect. :D

I use 30 sec K automute and run the V1 in little L mode. If there is a lot traffic, your lucky if you can even drive at the posted speed limit, so I just turn the V1 volume down all the way down right before it turns off, and occasionally glance at the display.

If traffic is light, I just turn up the volume and keep it in little L mode until I reach a rural area, highway, or interstate, then its A mode all the way with the volume turned up kinda loud and the mute volume set at a more comfortable volume. :cool:
