Firmware upgradable laser jammers having detection only as default firmware

Hello guys.

With laser speed cameras in mind (Vitronic Poliscan) do you agree that jammers are better at detecting laser than a portable radar detector as they have multiple larger receivers, lower without a bonnet in the way and most front location possible on the car.

Why don't laser jammer manufacturers have laser detection only firmware? then you have got no problem if a Leo stop you, they can easily see the laser heads and if it went to court, they could not prove that the equipment could jam laser.

One step further, why can't say Blinder (that is firmware upgradable) have a button to hold for 5 seconds that clears the detecting/jamming firmware and defaults to the hard coded detecting only possible.

This would sell like hot cakes in Western Australia with many new Poliscan laser speed cameras. With a front facing one, you may get a warning from say +200m range with Blinder but only 100m or less with a radar detector. The difference from a ticket or not.

There's no point to just detecting LIDAR, because by the time you are detecting it, 99.999 percent of the time you have already been clocked. Occasionally you may get lucky and pick up "scatter" from another car, but it isn't all that common. The only system that might stand a chance at seeing scatter regularly is the Escort / ZR4 unit, but it also falses at everything (sun glint off of mirrors and chrome bumpers) so while it is super sensitive, it can be really annoying.

So let me get this straight. You're talking about a way to render your jammer unfunctionable in a hurry, so that it won't jam anymore for the court? I cannot imagine that helping you at all. Once you're caught, you're caught. And if you use it correctly, you won't get caught to begin with.

This is a Poliscan that is a non aimed laser camera as appose to a hand held laser gun. With a decent detector like a V1 people had got 100m to 200m warning where the cameras in WA take the shot at 40-50m range hence enought time to drop 10-20kph.

WA is the only state where detectors are legal but jammers are illegal, all the cameras have moved from radar to lidar hence if it can default to a detector, then they could not prosecute you..

I seriously wouldn't count on that. You would have to provide certified documentation to the court that your device was a DETECTOR, and a detector ONLY. Good luck with that. The manual and paperwork that come with any jammer say differently.

It seems like those shots are happening way out. I would think that you could use a Blinder (which stops jamming by default after 7.5 seconds). You would still have a jammer, though if you are correct about how they use the laser, you would have warning, jam and slow down long before you reach the 50 meter mark.

It seems that simply using a jammer, with the Jam To Kill method would keep you out of trouble easily. These are not ambush shots that end woth Jam To Gun because it such a short encounter.

What is the penalty for having a jammer there?

A similar technique is actually being used by a radardetector produced and sold in The Netherlands. (The "Stinger dsi" detector)
Radar detectors (installed in cars) are illegal in The Netherlands, but this detector uses a trick . It has a button that erases the detection functionality, the "detector" then only has a GPS based warning function (not illegal here) and a feature called "police check" (also not illegal, but it justifies the radar receiver on the Stinger).

At home you can use a computer to update the firmware, and so restore the Stinger to full functionality. This trick saved me twice in 3-4 years. This detector is also undetectable by RDD's.

Since about a year the Stinger dsi also has an optional laserjammer unit. You can render the Stinger to "laser detection only mode" in about the same way. Laser detection is legal, laser jamming sometimes can be punished.

These tricks seem to work perfectly in court, as long as you hold up your story (in court) and don't let yourself be intimidated by a cop during a traffic stop. The Stingers are sometimes confiscated even without detection functionality. As far as I know, this is just police harrasment.
