The Stealthmobile needs YOUR help!

Hey guys!

Right now I am at my wit's end (a nicer way of saying I'm effing pissed off). When I took the Stealthmobile to the collision shop last week, all of my beautifully installed CM's were removed during the repair process, then stuck on half-arsed (hey, at least they put 'em back!). I re-installed them this afternoon with 3M tape - temp outside was around 25 degress at 12:30 PM. As I'm driving around tonight, I still noticed that the range on my STi-R was still a ways off, so I pulled into the parking lot of my local CVS when I discovered that the antenna was almost completely detached from the tape and ready to fall off the car! :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: In frustration, I disconnected the STi-R from the car and took it inside the cabin. I'm afraid that my LI re-install won't hold either. :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I know 3M tape will hold when it is initially installed in WARMER weather during the winter months, HOWEVER I need something that will stick well during an install NOW, as in the winter months. ANY help and suggestions are appreciated!!!!!!

(realized I MAY have put this partially in the wrong category - MY BAD. TOLD you I was upset!!!)

Maybe heating the tape and the surface with a hair dryer right before you install it might help.

x2 thats the best bet, or do you have a garage you could do it? throw a space heater in there let it get nice and toasty

The only other option I have is to permanently mount both using the brackets and screws provided. I guess then I wouldn't have to worry about tape not sticking correctly! I did get a set of aluminum brackets from Cliff when I bought my LI Dual in October. Only thing is: how do I use them??? Do I bend the brackets at all???

If not a hair drier than a commercial heat gun (hair drier on steroids) should do the trick. Heat both the tape and the surface you are attaching to.

Harbor freight has a cheapo heat gun for 13 dollars. It should last long enough to get everything installed. at least.

The big part of the sheet is to bend down and give you multiple possible places to screw the plate in or use 3M external body shop tape available at any automotive parts store, bend the bracket to where the jammer head will be mounted straight, attach the jammer head to the small end of the plate, do some adjustments to get the jammer heads perfectly straight and level with the road.

I think if you clean the area where the tape is going to be installed, heat that area and the tape with a hair dryer before installing you should be fine.

Make sure you are using this tape as Cliff is refering too.

x30 on the heating the tape if you "must" use it. I always ensure the mounting surfaces are clean and heat the 3m tape with a heat gun no matter the weather. Better to be safe than sorry. And I don't use 3M tape when suspending "anything" for the exact reason stated in the first post. It is fare more likely to fail than a metal or plastic bracket anchored to the car.
