picked up another used V1... 3.813 (strange)
Hey guys, I picked up another used V1 and sold the first one after it came back calibrated. I liked that one, but it was a bit bulky and I wanted to try and find a 3.813 out there. This one has a valid serial number on the back.
Today I hit pay dirt, I found someone who was selling a V1 3.813 and sold it to me for $150. I picked it up but I quickly discovered it was blowing fuses. I took a look and found the coiled cord was damaged and it was shorting at the connectors due to frayed wires touching. It's now sitting in the garbage.
Anyway, the strange thing is that it doesn't pick up K band at all. Could the frayed wires have damaged something internally that it doesn't pick it up? I verified a false at a bank nearby using my X50 and it picks it up full blast. This one is dead quiet in the same place (I didn't run 2 detectors at once).
The other odd thing I noticed is that, when I lookup the serial on Valentine, it's a non pop model. However, when I go through programming, after letter "H" theres a lowercase "i" (minus the dot though). And that one is set to Arrow up, when I change that to Arrow Down and restart the detector, it now starts up and says "P""o""P". I thought this was a non pop model? It doesn't give the "P" for programmed, it clearly says "P""o""P"... anyone know what this is?

My 3.813 was also dead on K band when I bought it. Just send it in for a $45 tune up and it'll be good to go.

What you discovered was the "Factory Test" option. Only the 3.812 and 3.813 have it. By turning the arrow down, you turned this option ON which is what caused POP to appear.

Great! Thanks Snoopy. It's strange they called it PoP for factory test. I'll send it out on Monday. I was nervous that he might've damaged something with the fuses blowing and all.

My 812 was dead on K as well. Send that unit for a tune up and order a hardwire kit.
Re: picked up another used V1... 3.813 (strange)
It probably just needs a tune up. My V1 also had some reception issues. I sent it in and they fixed it.
Congratuations on the purchase.
Re: picked up another used V1... 3.813 (strange)
When you said it had a valid serial, did you mean it was not stolen?
Re: picked up another used V1... 3.813 (strange)
Correct. It has a valid serial that isn't stolen and is affixed to the back of the unit. I put the letter together and asked them not to upgrade the software to anything else. Can anyone confirm the Bogey counter is perfect on 3.813? I noticed on other versions I get 3-4 bogeys for the same falses?
Re: picked up another used V1... 3.813 (strange)
Listen, the 813 is one of THE best V1s ever made. Don't doubt it once, just enjoy it. The only ghosting I get is if I'm basically in the path of a stalker radar facing me at full strength. I don't notice any ghosting on x or k. Remember, if it's Ka you better be at the PSL regardless
