Police Must Pay Speedcam Tickets . . Justice!
Maryland's highest court decides that police in Montgomery County, MD must pay speedcam tickets they get, even while on duty in their cruisers, unless they can prove they were responding to an emergency call (basically lights & siren on).

Interesting. No one is immune to the greedy government. Well, let me take that back. I wonder what would happen if a government official (House member) was caught on camera. Some foreign officials have diplomatic immunity.... Interesting development.

LOL can't wait to see this hit Chicago, then the city will REALLY be profiting from these damned red light cams.

That ticket will be on the officer's expense report before you can blink. The taxpayers will pay the tab either way. The camera vendor must be happy. They get to collect their percentage (usually around 50%). If the ticket were simply dismissed, the taxpayer's are out the 25-50% that the city gets to keep (most states get a percentage). This way, the taxpayer is out the full 100% invoiced, less whatever the city normally keeps..

I don't mind LEO's speeding without lights and siren, especially on parkways, highways, thruways. Would rather have LEO fly by me instead of riding alongside or worse, behind me.

They basically need to be the fastest cars on the road to prevent traffic problems. On every highway I've been on in good conditions with free flowing traffic, almost everyone was exceeding the speed limit. If a cop drives any speed between about five under the PSL and whatever the fastest cars are doing, they'll artificially depress the speeds of everyone behind them.
