My personal take on this is this was a real cop doing a real service. I'm thankful for all the officers that protect our property and safety. I'm sorry for the loss of a father and husband.
But gawd all of the negative comments?
The police really need to take a step back and look at how they are perceived by the public.

I agree, it is a real tragedy. As much as people talk bad about traffic cops, at the end of the day they are just doing their job. For people to write such negative comments is truly appalling.
On the same note, I have to agree with you about the image of the police. Especially in rougher neighborhoods, police are seen as more of a threat than a help. They are out there to protect and serve, and I think that departments should work to boost their image in the eyes of the public. Regardless, that is no excuse for people to write such trash in the comments of that article.
