I bought some standard telephone cable to add my remote audio adapter. Due to the extended cable run, I used 25 foot 4 conductor RJ11 cable. However, with these cables I get no functionality. Connecting the V1 to power directly with them works fine so the cables aren't broken. Do I need to use 6 conductor cable? If so is it an RJ12 connector then?? Thanks.
Okay, based on my eyeballs and a look at the post below showing the schematic I can see that it's a 4 wire conductor. I think the problem is my cable runs are too long. I was trying 2 25 foot runs (v1 to remote audio to power, but I just read somewhere that VR doesn't support a run longer than 8 feet. Is this true? I need something close to about 10 feet for each run, maybe time to head to radio crap or home depot.
cable must be reversed at the ends, so if not, cut it, crimp reverse
As Tiho said, if you brewed your own cables, be sure the RJ-11 connectors are "reversed" to maintain continuity. But if you bought pre-made 25-footers then the problem is either low voltage (loss due to long run) or interference picked up along the way, or both. If there's any way to shorten the runs that will be a lot easier than trying to block out interference.

I've never had a problem with the length of the cord, and I have surely done a run longer than 8 feet, but 25 feet seems pretty long to me. If you really need that length, I would suggest calling VR and asking a technician if they have determined maximum length (based on average phone cables, as the gauge will effect voltage drop).
I think the problem was I was running a 25 foot cable to the audio adapter, then another 25 footer to the 12v power source. 50 feet is definitely way to much resistance so the V1 wasn't getting nearly enough power. I defaulted to 25 feet since I figured that would be plenty long enough but now see the error of those ways.
Unfortunately it's old news now - I just returned the V1 back to VR for unrelated reasons. OT but it just wasn't adding enough to make it worth the expense and additional equipment in the car.
