Multiple Strange False Alarms on Interstates of Ohio
Hi Guys!
New to the forum so I hope I didn't miss this but a search came up empty.
I live in western PA just east of the Ohio border and just north of I-80. I have been traveling via interstate highway in Ohio a lot lately and have noticed a strange type of false alarm that I haven't encountered before.
I have had a Valentine One for about 15 years so I know the nuances of reading it when it goes off as far as false alarms.
Just to clarify, my current V-1 isn't 15 years old. I have upgraded a few times and the one I am referring to is about 8-9 years old. Not sure what version I have though. (how do you find this out by the way?). It is installed on the upper middle of the front windshield of my 2009 Acura MDX.
Around Akron, Cleveland area on I-80 and I-76, I get these strange falses. It goes from absolutely nothing up to FULL BLAST (all bars) in K band. This lasts anywhere from 2 seconds up to about 4 seconds and then trickles down (bars go down sequentially) over about 2-3 seconds back to nothing.
I look around and there is absolutely nothing around that I can see that would give me this type of reading. It doesn't seem to be my car or my cell phone or my cord connection etc. since it only happens on these roads (interstates).
I've read here something about cell phone towers but I don't see any when this happens. I see no ODOT radar signs, no automatic doors, no photo equipment. Nothing. I even read on here that one guy had a Droid phone that seemed to make his V-1 go off. I have a Droid but it would be happening ALL the time if this were the case.
Anyone know what this is?

K-band speed sensors went into effect in the Cleveland-Akron area in September last year or so. You'll usually find them in highly populated areas and are space .8-.9 mile.
Personally if you only travel through those areas every so often I'd turn the volume down so it's bareable. The speed sensors are usually in an area of a divided highway separated by jersey concrete barriers or cable. So LEO's can't turn around and as you probably know they use mostly laser anyways. There is a K-band muting prohgram but wouldn't use it if you don't through allot.
I travel 70 miles daily with K-band muting and it works great!

I accidentally typed in X when I meant K. I have corrected it in my original post.
What exactly do they do? Where are they? I can't seem to see anything when I get this alarm. It is almost as though they are "turned off" and somehow sense when I am there and all of a sudden BOOM they hit me. Almost like one of those outdoor lights with an IR sensor that is off but turns on when you walk underneath it.

To see the end result. If your near metro Cleveland there are LED boards showing time to next interchange or exit. Also posts milemarker of accidents and missing children.

Veil Guy said in his Whistler Pro 3600 review that TSR could delay a warning up to 2 seconds. Definitely don't run with it on when you don't have too as you could be looking at a visit from an officer.
K-band muting allows use of the ARROWS on the V1, unlike the others which are mute.

If you come down to the highways in Pittsburgh you will get the same/similar K-band falses every mile or two... down here it's for the PennDOT traffic monitoring center, it grabs the average speed for them to use on the PA 511 website, and for all of the traffic information websites.

V1 3.873, comes with TSR, but it is in beta mode. Maybe if you send it in with a nice letter, you shall receive?
