RADAR and LAZAR Detectors DON'T WORK...I heard it from the cops so it MUST be true
Radar Detectors and Jammers
Quote:
People that spend alot of money on them kill me, because they are useless providing the radar operator knows what they are doing.
(Their grammar kills me. This is from a VA cop...well if they are so useless then why has VA BANNED them?)
Quote:
Love them......at least my Sgt. does when I turn in all of those tickets!!!
I really like the ones that are hard wired in......I love making them pull it all out on the side of the road!!
(Another VA cop...[I really hope they mean a remote unit and not a hard wired window mounted one. Can you say 'PRICK-who-doesn't-understand-their-own-Nazi-laws'!? Your Sgt. probably thinks they are a prick too.])
Quote:
Detectors are worthless in most situations as the Officer already has your speed before you can react.
(I think this means 'I pick the speed you were doing and you get to pay the fine'.)
Quote:
HAHA...do y'all use laser a lot? Around here you never see laser in use since it has to be used while stationary.
Quote:
I wish NY would wisen up to the idea of making detectors illegal and assessing a huge fine/siezure for use of one. Albany is looking for ways to make money and I can't think of a better way than to fine people (heavily) for possessing items for the sole purpose of breaking the law... after all... possession of burglars tools is a class A misdemeanor and possession of graffiti tools is a class B misdemeanor... both punishable by upto 1 year in county jail.
Quote:
Go ahead and use a radar detector, they don't work worth a damn against a Stalker unit.
(RLY? I bet he read that in the Stalker manual)
Just wow. I hope to God they know more about guns than they do radar detectors... Is this the general sentiment cops have with RDs?
Re: RADAR and LAZAR Detectors DON'T WORK...I heard it from the cops so it MUST be tru
They're right, radar detectors don't work.
Re: RADAR and LAZAR Detectors DON'T WORK...I heard it from the cops so it MUST be tru
Hahahaha, good find! I'm going to have to say...they're right. They never work :o

My favorite:

1. This guy wants to extort money and steal people's property, which is contrary to his Constitutional Oath!
2. Everyone is looking to make money not just Albany. If he can't think of a better way for Albany to make money than *possession* charges then he is a part of the problem not the solution.
3. Since when has the purpose of a RADAR detector been for the sole purpose of breaking the law? Personally, I like to be aware of my surroundings and know where the cops are. I like to watch my public servants as they watch me and try to watch other people. It keeps things in check. Clearly, the FCC has also made it legal to run any form of RADIO receiver, which is what a RADAR detector is... There are legal doctrines giving people rights that should actually trump D.C., and Virginia law if pushed into the Supreme Court.
4. Possession of burglary tools is a Class A misdemeanor? Really, I can't even own a ski mask or a crow bar? Well, I am 100% guilty; since, I have these in the garage, yet I have never been a burglar, and I won't steal from people because I am not a *real* criminal though I am legislated by statutes to be one. One time I drove to work and all six of us in our IT department (for a School District) brought in ski masks, crow bars, and baseball bats. We all carpooled together down-town to this large Christmas Tree for our X-Mas picture to send to all the staff... the whole way there we were cracking jokes about how bad it would look to any cops with 6 guys in a van with bats, masks, and crow bars... We joked about getting our group picture in jail and just sending that if we get caught and the cop doesn't have a sense of humor. None of us are criminals; heck, these are some of the best guys I ever had the honor of working with... This guy is saying we should all be in jail! It would be like charging someone with possession of a gun because they *might* murder someone based on the inductive reasoning that it has happened in the past! Oh, and I bought some cans of Spray Paint because I am a modeler and I paint stuff, but I guess having that at a traffic stop would lend me in jail for possession of graffiti tools.
It is impossible to not be a criminal when doing something like buying spray paint for a model, buying a ski mask to go skiing, or a crow-bar for construction automatically makes you guilty of a misdemeanor once you possess said item.
Punish people for the crimes they do not having equipment that has other, legitimate uses. Possession of a tool that can cause a crime should NOT be a violation. By the same logic some people automobiles speed, so why not just outlaw automobiles because people who own automobiles speed?

Some years ago, an imbecile NY legislator wanted to adopt the RD ban for the above reasons. I wrote letters opposing the ban. I figured the ban would be enacted anyway as NY State doesn't pass when it comes to new or increased taxes.

There don't my car when it's hit with laser they get no locks it's just magic

"the sole purpose of breaking the law" Really? The sole purpose?
That is like saying "when you bought condoms it was for the sole purpose of cheating on your wife"

How many cops have you seen that drive the speed limit? I bet you $400 that guy is driving 95+ in a 55 and assuming that he is not breaking the law because he is the law and is therefore above the law. It's perfect logic. Really, we would pass laws that exempt cops from being subject to any type of regulation or ethics codes. I'm sure they would never abuse that power, right? :p

I don't really care if cops speed. They should either go 10 under the PSL or 5-10 over the flow of traffic. Just yesterday I saw one of the biggest clusterf*cks I've ever seen on the PA turnpike... a group of about two dozen vehicles closely packed together, all driving about 500 behind a PSP cruiser. Obviously, it's much safer for everyone to be stuck together going 64 MPH because no one can pass Buford T. Justice than it is for everyone to drive at whatever speed they please and create a little distance between each other.
Now, having said that, it's true... countermeasures don't work. I mean, they don't make you 100% invulnerable, so any cop with enough experience will catch people using detectors and jammers, even good ones, but that doesn't mean they don't improve your odds! You can't play this game without accepting that one day you'll get caught. The only difference you can make is how long it will take for you to get caught.

Does the name Carl Marcellino ring a bell? He was still trying to get RD's banned as of the last legislative session:
Bills
Fortunately it died as it has so many times over the years!
