Do I have a problem with my STI-R (NOT PLUS) on KaBand???

Ok this is my issue. I get all other alerts except KA. How do I know this,,, well I passed 4 cops moving towards me in the last few days and I can see Radar antennas in the cop cars front and back and my STI-R didn’t even make a beep. I even went as far as to pull a U turn and fallowed the cop to see if I get an alert by getting close to him. NOTHING! Not even a beep.. Most cops here in Ontario are on K for hand helds units. And the in car Radar’s on Ka bands. Again K & X bands work great. Lots of alerts. But KA hasn’t beep since I’ve own it. I bought this Unit used so before I go back to this guy ‘I’d like to be sure that it’s not me that’s doing something wrong in the set up menu..

Sounds like you do. I just got mine back from repairs also. Contact them for a packing number and send it in. Just had to send in the receiver on mine and warranty covered it. Still a pain to remove it though.

you want to know without sending it back?

Get one of whistler se models form Walmart. Make sure to keep the reciet from the store as you will probably want to take it back after this test.

Run the whistler on MENU near it which will make the whister put out a very nice 35.5 radar signal and see if your detector alarms to it.

from what I have heard Ontario uses this freq.

ALSO

check to see that KA band hasn't been turned off on the unit before you do all this ! :)

BTW I would get the proper Bell manuals from the radar detector site too.

I am sure I am teaching you anything here but your STiR detects radar, not police vehicle. Is it possible that all the LEOs you met weren't running radar? Absolutely even though it sounds odd. Few reasons to not run radar: Running a spectre so you don't want to ''spooke'' your clients, the audio doppler could drive you insane so some never use C/O when working speed enforcement. If on divided highway, why run it when you can't turn around anyway.

I would be worried too but I would say try to find a 100% sure Ka source and try it. I know it is hard to do but it might save you a few dollars if it is actually working right and you were just ''out of luck'' for a little bit.
