HOWDY! and a probing questions

Just got my first radar detector! I also got my first truck recently, so I was searching for toys, and when i found a good price on an 8500 x50 I jumped on it. I bought the super cup and im really liking it and also the hardwiring smartcord from car toys but have yet to install it, but i have a few questions about overall usage maybe someone can help me with

a) I know its a debate, but is there really much of a difference in high-low placement? Mine is currently low, but im thinking since im in a good sized truck, thats about normal height - does that logic follow?

b) if yours is hardwired in, what are your practices with taking it off the windshield when you park (because of heat/theft/etc) - is that a PITA?? Also, I would love to see your set up.
- Also, if you look at the picture below, im thinking of velcro-ing it to my dash at kind of driver side ish of the radio, what do you think about that?


c) Driving around town - North Dallas suburb - im picking up K band from stores and Ka from LEOs driving around - yet sometimes I pass a LEO and pick up nothing, is it typical that some cops would drive around with it staying on and others not?

Also, any tips for a new user would be awesome. For right now, im sticking with the factory settings, untill I find (or am suggested) settings that may be more useful.

Some areas are masters when it comes to use radar and they use what is called Instant on (I/O). The principle is to leave the radar turned off (hold mode) and turning it on at the last second to get a speed. The only way to defeat that practice is to use a ''rabbit'' so that the rabbit gets hit with radar, your detector hopefully picks it up and you slow down on time. Also, not all police cars have radar in them.

It all depends at what they do in your areas, the more you read on the forum and the more experience you get, the better you will become

Welcome. Placement helps very little most of the time but in a rare case or two it will save you over time by a single blip. It depends if you want perfection and maybe a second sooner warning. You want to pick up that I/O far ahead because you might be next and get a big supprise that you do not want. Every bit helps because if you speed, you will get caught in time. When you see a Leo parked sideways mostly, he could have a laser or radar ready for you, sometimes no hope. Use your eyes!....

I would avoid doing 22 over PSL (I think that's what the Leo in the video said) until you know your detector and the area your in. where i'm at that would be reckless driving, ouch!!!

Not really, entrapment would be if the LEO somehow made him speed when he normally would never do such a thing, sitting in the median with out lights on wasn't making him speed, he did that on his own free wil.
