Mid-2009 9500ix versus brand new
Local guy on Craigsist has a 9500ix for sale. The serial number indicates it was made in the 20th week of 2009. I verified this with Escort and they said it's a valid serial.
Other than software updates (which I can pay for), were there any other changes made to these since mid-2009? Escort says other than the modification of the USB port so you no longer need a separate power supply, there were no changes.
I don't buy that -- find it hard to believe the antennas or other things weren't changed for 3 years.
Any thoughts?

This will be of no help to you whatsoever, but when I bought a 9500i in June of 2008, it came with the representation that the detector could be updated via the USB port. Two weeks after I bought it, they came out with the 9500ix which has databases and firmware updates that are installed via the USB port. Nothing was made available for the 9500i other than a one-time software fix. I am SOOOOOOOOO glad I relied on their representations :mad: Mind you, I bought my first radar detector in 1983. It was an Escort ;-))

Thanks, but I am just asking if the 9500ix had anything changed internally since mid-09.

From what I know they should have the same performance. The 9500ix has always used the M4 antenna, therefore I have no reason to believe it has changed since 2009.

Early models did not have TSR (k-band traffic sensor rejection) capability.
This capability is not updatable by the software. You must send it to escort for a modification.
You will need to check on this if you need that function. ESCORT should be able to tell you by serial #.

We added TSR anti-falsing as poolmon pointed out (and he is correct that we have to install it). We also removed Ku detection. Barring the limited edition models (gamer, racer, pearl white), there are three flavors of the 9500ix that can be identified by the first two digits of the serial number:
Serial - feature
19xxxxxx - requires 12VDC when updating via USB, no TSR, has Ku detection
22xxxxxx - 12VDC not required to update via USB, may or may not have TSR, has Ku detection
33xxxxxx - 12VDC not required to update via USB, has TSR, removed Ku detection due to it not being used any longer
Limited Editions are all "33" feature-wise, they are simply prettier (the Racer is gorgeous)

Don't forget to mention the 19xxxxx COULD have TSR if the user sent it in and had it installed like I have...

Quick question. I have a 19xxxxx series 9500ix, but in preferences it allows me to turn TSR On. Is this falsely telling me that I have TRS capabilities, because I never sent my 9500ix in for TSR modification. Or is it possible that some of the later 19xxxxx series have TSR?

If you can turn "On" TSR directly from your 9500ix (not from detector tools on your computer) then you probably have it.
However, only ESCORT can tell you for sure (since a later 9500ix software update could offer the option even without the feature available, but you should not be able to select it if it was programmed correctly).
ALSO, if you do have TSR, AND you set it to the "Off" setting, then when you power up your 9500ix it will read "TSR Off" on the display for a second or two ( just like it does if you shut off any radar band).

One of the first things it says when I turn it on is "TSR Off", and I can turn it "on" from the decter itself. At least it says its on. It seems like I have it from what your saying, but I guess I would have to check withg Escort to know for sure.
