Interceptor Dual Install Question
I have three questions.
1. The radio mute cable. I understand which one it is but were on the radio do I hook it? It is not explained in the manual.
2. The external speaker cables. Once again I know which they are. However I have a escort external speaker and it appears to have a single cable going to a plug? How do I hook it to the two cables on the laser interceptor.
3. I have installed both my heads on the front of my car in the position cliff recommended. I will try to post pics here tomorrow. They look parallel to the road both from the side and the top as indicated in the manual. My question is though about the leveler. I can't be sure if they are perfectly level though. I mounted them on a level part of my car but the car has to be in a perfectly level spot for me to be sure they are level. I hope the pics will be enough for you all to advise me if they are okay. The manual does not say they have to be perfectly level just parallel to the road.
Thanks
Shannon
Re: Interceptor Dual Install Question
Hi Shannon,
Check with your dealership mechanic or a Forum specific for your vehicle to determine the location of the mute for your car.
Use a female 3.5 mm jack to connect the LI power loom's blue neg. and pos. wires and then plug the Escort speaker into it. They are available at Radio Shack.
Use the supplied bubble level to see if the slab you are on is level.

Re: Interceptor Dual Install Question
Okay cliff. Thanks for the fast reply. I had forgot about getting a jack. I will try that tomorrow. I may not be able to use the radio mute then. At least for now until I can figure on were to hook it. Pontiac no longer makes cars so I don;t know who I would contact for help.
I will post detailed pics tomorrow of the heads and alignment for your opinion. Hopefully they will be okay.
Thanks for excellent service!!!

Also does the cpu need any firmware updates before I install it or is it ready to go straight from the factory? Also will I be notified ny email if firmware updates are available.
Re: Interceptor Dual Install Question
No, all our devices are shipped up to date! Just install, plug and play!

Re: Interceptor Dual Install Question
Cliff,
Well I have installed and mounted everything, When I powered it up instead of the welcome I was expecting it to give I got a musical tone. After about 30 secs it then says parking aid deactivated.
Is this normal? Is my jammers ready to work against lidar?
Also I made sure my heads were perfectly level with the supplied leveler. I am very happy with everything! Thanks for such great service!!! I know I promised pics but I also promised my wife a date! Better hold up to the date first! Pics later tonight or tomorrow! With the exception of applying my laser veil I have completed the entire install! Was not that hard!

Re: Interceptor Dual Install Question
The Crescendo replaced the old Welcome in 2011 so everything is normal. For the initial 10 seconds, the LI is in PA (Parking Aid) Mode followed by the Alert "Parking Aid is Deactivated" at which time, the LI is now in JAM mode waiting for the first LIDAR encounter.
Use it wisely!

Re: Interceptor Dual Install Question
Congrats on completing the install. To answer question number one, there is no radio mute wire for your car.
There is a work around though.
Attempt at your own risk.
1. Purchase an automotive spdt relay, in-line act fuseholder, and 10 amp fuse (or whatever radio fuse rating is listed in the manual for your car) from Radioshack, Amazon or any automotive store. Amazon will be cheapest.
2. Remove your radio to gain access to the radio harness.
3. Wire colors are as folows:
Radio 12V - blu/wht
Radio Ground - brown
Radio Ignition - gray
Radio Illumination - green
Power Antenna - black
Left Front Speaker (pink+/purple-)
Right Front Speaker (lt. green+/blue-)
Left Rear Speaker (black+/yellow-)
Right Rear Speaker (red+/white-)
4. Use a DMM to measure the voltage on the radio ignition wire (gray wire). Should be around 12+ volts with ignition on, around 0 volts with ignition off.
5. Cut this wire. Try to turn on your radio. If it does not turn on, you cut the correct gray wire. If it does turn on, I don't know what wire you cut.:o
6. Connect the end of the wire coming from the car to the in-line fuse holder.
7. Wire the relay as follows:
87a - other end of in-line fuse holder
85 - 87a as well
86 - to a good length of wire that will be connected to the LI radio mute wire later.
30 - to gray cut wire going to the radio
8. Insert the 10 amp fuse in the fuse holder. Try to turn on your radio. It should function normally.
9. Strip back some insulation from the wire connected to terminal 86 on the relay and touch this wire to ground. The radio should turn off. Once you remove this wire from ground, the radio should power up and function normally. If this is all true, connect this wire to the LI radio mute wire.
10. Secure the relay in the dash behind the radio and re-install the
radio.
Basically what you have done is create a radio ignition interrupt. No different than turning your radio off and on with the key in the ignition cylinder.
Newer german cars are different as the radio's functionality is usually controlled via data... So I would likely figure out another way (radio mute wire/circuit or factory amplifier interrupt).
If you can install a Laser Interceptor correctly, you can complete the task above. I have absolutely no idea why you would want to do this though as the amplified speaker will be very loud.:o
Re: Interceptor Dual Install Question
Thanks Cliff! Rest assured I will always use JTK unless I have that rare super close range hit were I am past the LEO before I can kill it.
Thanks
Shannon

Thanks for the effort to post the above information! I agree though I will just manually turn the radio off if I need to. We don't listen to it very load anyway. We are not teens if you know what I mean! :)
