MAX and radar guidance systems: would this help avoid RDD's ??
Hi All. I have a car with both crash avoidance and lane guidance systems. Does anyone have an opinion on whether the MAX might pick up lots of interference or false alerts from these systems? I was wondering, too, if these radar systems would limit a RDD's ability to sniff out the MAX. I guess MAX is not invisible to RDD's in a normal setting. I am moving to VA soon, so I have to expect LEO to have RDD's readily available. What do you all think?

Most likely it will since they operate on the assigned police radar freqs.
get a stealth RDD dude :)

Hey Buck! Are you a major BOC fan? I saw them a few times and they were great. I remember when the whole band came out playing guitars and blew away the house. What a fantastic band! I wish they would have had better engineering though. Their record quality was terrible. I tried to re-equalize some of their records, nothing worked. Anyways...You think I would get lots of false alerts? What do you mean get a "stealth RDD". Do you mean a stealth radar detector, like a Redline?

I sure am. BOC forever !
Stealth RDD
Get a Redline. The best stealth detector out there. Best detector period with the new advances in software to it. Make sure you get one right from Escort though !
Then you will get the most advanced and best ones.
You car with all that microwave gadgetry emitting radar is a serious hindrance dude.
I don't know what to tell you about that.

The Escort Passport Max is like most detectors in that it's immune to VG2, but that's it. It is not a stealth detector such as the Escort RedLine or the Beltronics STi Magnum.
I agree with Buckdrama, if you are going to move to VA, you need a RedLine or STi Magnum which is invisible to all current RDDs. Otherwise it will get detected at some point, you will not only get a ticket for speeding (if that's why they pulled you over) and/or a ticket for having a detector. Oh, and they confiscate your detector too BTW.
They are both awesome detectors, but I would go with the RedLine w/ Escort Live! which would give you GPS location filtering such as locking out false signals, red light & photo speed cameras, live reporting of speed traps, etc.

They can NOT confiscate your RD. Yes a ticket for about $100 and ask you to put it where you cant reach it while driving but that can't take it. I have had plenty of experience here in VA since 1997. Got two more tickets in the last two months for the Whistler remote I was running. Just bought a redline today and I guess we will see if that fools them.
Re: MAX and radar guidance systems: would this help avoid RDD's ??
Oh brother! So they RDD'd your Whistler. Was it supposed to be stealth? I am really concerned about those VA leos. Will they pull you over if they see an RD hanging from your windshield, or just if you are speeding too? I could not believe how many cops I saw while I was just driving around, and I thought Ohio was bad. Are they using LIDAR or RADAR? I cannot get a sense of which is the dominant form of oppression .
Re: MAX and radar guidance systems: would this help avoid RDD's ??
VA can but don't confiscate RDs. They used to confiscate detectors "as evidence" but someone challenged that and the court said the detectors CAN be confiscated but the owner MUST be reimbursed for the cost of replacing the detector, so at that point, all jurisdictions have a policy not to confiscate any detector. They will record the serial number (for evidence) and if able, verify it works but this is not required especially if it is hardwired. I would not run a non-stealth detector in VA, sooner of later you will come across a leo with a SPECTRE RDD. They can pull you over if they have reasonable belief you have a RD. Reasonable means they can either see it or have electronic indications you have one. They do not need another reason to pull you.

Great info. Thanks. Sounds like stealth is the only way to go.
