Another detector which I couldn't really understand why it was produced is the S55. That is also being dropped, which is probably a good thing. Too many overlapping or "dupilicate" SKUs, in effect. That detector reminded of the short-run Escort C50 which looked like a Beltronics detector with an Escort logo on it.
It wouldn't surprise me that the old Vector line from Beltronics also fades away, as the Pro series of Bel detectors seem to be the more current form of the long-standing Vector series.
I think it is a good move to reduce so many products. Whistler has too many, in my opinion as well. I expect Cobra to scale back the sheer number of units to, re-enforcing the notion of a good (Cobra), better (Beltronics), best (Escort) approach to their consolidated product line up.
Look at the Whistler site - they've got a few dozen US models I think, and 90% of them have something in common with the rest. You can match up three units and the only differences might be the periscope color, one has voice and tones, another has a two year warranty instead of one year, a 'high performance' model is $40 cheaper than a non-high performance, it's amazing how many models they have. Maybe to make it harder to comparison shop between sellers carrying different sets of models...
