New V1 Owner ? on k alerts.

I am on my 30 day trial and noticed crossing 4 states this weekend that around motion sensors (multiple), and when the detector is on Logic and sometimes Advanced Logic the K band alerts with the X band warning, but not when in All Bogeys mode. It's as if the detector gets confused with all the radar signals in the filter modes.

I've owned the original Escort and then the original Passport (I still have both) and when they are on city mode and encounter motion sensors they too would sometime signal K band intially. They even cycled back and forth (so did the V1) till the stronger singnal took over.

With all the new technology and advanced programming I just didn't know if the V1 had a problem or this is common with the unit.

BTW I've wanted a V1 since they came out but just never bit the bullet. I had to travel this past week and thought it was the time. I found this site and was very impressed as to the knowledge it provided. Thanks in advance for the help.

if u are getting X and K band alerts on the same source, something is wrong.

I'm not really sure. I was on the highway through major cities and every time the unit was set on the Logic or Advanced Logic mode there would be K band alerts mixed into the X band alerts. Is K band motion sensors very common? There usually was only one or two K band noises and usually only on initial alarm. Other than this issue the unit seemed to perform flawlessly.

K band motion sensors are very common.

Since I was traveling through I didn't get to test it by trying to find the source so that option is open. However has your V1 on the 2 filter modes mentioned ever alerted the K band tone when encountering multiple or any motion sensors. If so is this often or rare.

I know this depends on location and K band emitters I'm just trying to get a feel if this is a problem with the unit or something not to worry about.

But still to answer your question, no one can give you an answer becuase it depends upon the source if there are both X and K. Now if your asking about a "bug" where the RD accedently reports a band where one does not exist some people call this a "ghost" where you get cross over, sure it can happen. Others have reported such although it is very rare occurance. Still you could have been in an area that had both X and K falses. :arrow: :? :wink:

Thanks for the help. I know it's difficult when your not the one experiencing it trying to decide what happened. I don't think the detector picked up X and called it K or visa versa, it just seemed to happen when there was a large influx of radar from many sources.

Theoretically I suppose this shouldn't happen with advanced discreet circuitry and algorithms to weed falses, I was just hoping someone would confirm this occurance in there experiences. It's just that it happened in 3 rather large cities multiple times so I thought it would be more common if it were normal for the V1 or stick out if it were not. Still any help is appreciated.

Even with the best "flilters", all that "filters" are are threshold limits, all RD get "falses", and if your in a heavey urban area, you will get lots more, hence it begining to sound ok, if your surrounded by "falses" chances are that you will get both X and K band falses. Honestly I do not have that problem and do not recall the experience becasue my state (lucky me) does not allow police to use X band, so I have that disabled and all I have to deal with are K band "falses". Rememebr these motion sensors reside on the very same freq police use. So "false" is a relative term, that is why a RD can not "filter" this stuff out. And we have to deal with it. That is why Ka is a threat you should be vary wary of, Ka is much more expensive hence you do not see motion sensors made from these, and hence you do not have much falseing from other than other RD users. Now that I recall, sure in my nieghborhood there are both X and K "falses" that I would get alerts from in the same area from different sources next to each other.

Thanks again for the input, I thought as much it just helps to hear it from someone else. This is no cheap accessory and even more expensive if it works incorrectly. I really want it to be "normal" and performing as good as a V1 can. I still have a few weeks left and I live in a large city so hopefully I'll be able to check it out further. Cheers!
