Hi all, I'm new here...I just got a V985 from a friend who got a Passport 8500.
The detector powers up just fine, but it's silent. My friend called Bel and got a replacement speaker which he soldered in. But no dice....still silent. I took it apart and re-soldered it in a nicer manner (he doesn't have as much practice as I do :D ). Anyway, it still has no sound. I've done a search and I saw someone mentioned some SMD resistors. I found two, right by the speaker solder points, one large, one small.
Does anyone know what the values should be? My meter claims that both are 29kOhm.
Any other suggestions? I plan on powering it up with it open and checking to see if any voltage signals are getting through to the speaker leads. For some reason the detector won't power up on my 12VDC bench power supply (Anyone know the operating current? I know the fuse is rated at 1A, and my supply is variable up to 2.5, so I kept the current ~250-500 mA).
Great forum BTW!
