JTW's Laser Tester--a useful tool and tailgating deterrent

Bit the bullet and got one of these. The shipping was prompt and it works. Chris refunded my $5 after the fact as a Radar Roy customer when I forwarded a copy of my receipt from before the tester purchase.

And now for the good stuff:
This is the best tool ever for getting 18-wheelers off your a$$ at 75 MPH.
They can't see in my vehicle as they are on top of me but the laser tester apparently triggers their detectors as they back off really quickly.

It's also great fun to wake up bimmer drivers as their V1s report the tester from behind. Haven't tried other left-lane denizens but my son couldn't stop the laughing as he saw the brake lights coming on.
There will be new radar reports when these get out....

I'd suggest annoying other detector users isn't a particularly good use of the tester...

agreed, I can see the humor in it but again that is just a little childish to say the least.

Bushnell k band radar guns work better for the highway brake light test anyway.

It causes gas mileage decrease. Having to hit the brakes and then resuming back to the speed you were at. Gas prices are to high to be fooled with :lol:

1. Have no fear, it will only affect V1s and crappy Unidens from behind :) This was an impromptu test and probably reassured the drivers that their hardware worked for lidar. Besides, this was not done as a pounce from behind on high-speed drivers (it does not have the range). Rather it was done whilst my car was 1/2 sec off the other cars left rear quarter. Young son aimed for V1 red dot. During this time period, we all saw a dozen deer, so the braking was not an exceptional event.

2. I've used RDs for >30 years (anyone remember Rashid suppression?). My son is getting his permit and I need to educate him about the appropriate use of an RD and its limitations. I have mixed feelings about whether new drivers should have RDs (I did) as they provide for a false sense of immunity. OTOH provisional drivers are a primary target for some LEOs, and this will hit my wallet if my son is ticketed.

3. I regard its as a prudent tool against an 18 wheeler with a driver with perhaps 3 weeks on a CDL who is 1/2 second behind me bearing down on a 3-lane in which all 3 lanes are full of vehicles travelling at 75 MPH. Pushing by 18 wheelers is a real problem out East and there is no reasonable justification for it. IMHO being shot with a tester is the least of this a$$clown's worries.


I sincerely apologize if I have offended anybody. Furthermore, I apologize for any frivolously wasted carbon molecules burned as a result of my childish behavior. I strongly advise that any test of this nature not be performed from behind as it may prove quite risky.

My post was a late night post, I did look at it and it was a little overboard. But you can view my reason to why I do not approve of it below my orginal post.....has a little humor in it. :D

I didn't think truckers used RD's because it is illegal for them to use them. Or, am I being naive?
