Are Escort ZR3 Front heads replacable seperatly from entire kit?

I had a new front bumper painted and when the shop took off the old bumper they cut the wires for the 2 front sensors thinking they were just fog lights and used regular wiring. Well its phone line wire and that is not repairable correct? They think i can just use butt connectors but i really dont think so. I think they should pay for new heads or atleast what it cost to have it reliabley repaired if thats possible. Are the heads availible seperatly fromt escort? Its both front shifter heads. Any advice greatly appreciated

make them cover it for their mistake. NO shop should be cutting wires. they should know better and disconnect from a terminal.

they better have insurance on their shop. have them use it and buy you new heads. otherwise, that's a whole new system for you!

ZR3 heads *should* be available from Escort. I don't know, exactly, what's going to happen, though, now that they're phasing-out the ZR3 for the ZR4.....

I last called to check on this nearly 2 years ago, and at that time, each front head was in the $120 to $180 range - I wish I could give you a more solid number, but I've honestly forgotten. :o

Escort can simply install your ZR3 front head guts into new shifter cases with new cables. :)

How far back from the heads did the mechanics cut the cables. I ask because another solution does exist which I have used outdoors.

make them buy you a whole zr4 setup and send me your zr3 parts

Hate to say this how did your bumper come out, if they are that stupid to just cutting wires, I wonder how they are with painting?

They cut the wires about 1 foot back or so. I agree with everyone here that they should have never cut the wires. The guy that owns the shop is a buddy/acuatance (Sp) of mine and i really dont want to push the issue with them buying me a whole Zr4 kit. They do good work and i dont want any tension between me and my buddy. I do think they should atleast pay to have the old heads repaired though but when i kinda mentioned it on the phone when they told me they cut the wires they said "Oh well its really easy you can do it" Im most likely going to go back in there tomorrow after work and talk to them about it.

MEM-TEK: what is your other solution you speak of? How much does escort charge to replace the cases and wiring? That would probably be the best way of going about it

focalcivic: They do excellent paint/body work. They were voted best body shop 2 years in a row here. Paint matches excellent and lifetime warranty. They are part of the Carstar line of shops so the warranty is nationwide.

I don't know what Escort would charge to replace the cords and external cases. They possibly might be able to replace just the cables since the epoxy stuff they use seems to not cure to a rock hardness. Maybe its possible that they can use solvent and dig out the epoxy, install new wires, and reseal the cables through the case hole.

Since the cut is a foot back from each head, it is possible to repair the cables and make the repair watertight. It just takes patience and some time to do right. Check with Escort first and see what they have to say regarding repairing the cut cables. They might even have a new flash for your ZR3 heads as well. If they are going to charge you an arm and a leg, then PM me and I will give you detailed step by step instructions on how you can repair the cables yourself. If the similar repairs which I did on phone style cables for one of my outdoor telescopes can last for 6 years outdoors, I am pretty confident that a similar repair will hold up just as well. BTW, there is nothing like the sound of a lawnmower going "thunk" when it cuts through multiple data cables! :D

Got ahold of escort this morning..Its going to cost 79 bux for them to service the front 2 heads. That includes new wiring, new case and than a service to check diodes and software. So not bad, now to let the shop know. Thanks for the advice guys!
