Escort 9500ix install on Ducati ST4s
I just finished installing an Escort 9500ix on my 2003 Ducati ST4s. I used a Techmount Control Mount (purchased from Roy). I didn't mount it on a control pod as is the intent, but rather on the front of the upper triple clamp:

I had intended to not use the riser post and just attach the base to the triple. But, I was shipped the wrong part (I ordered the tall mount, I received the regular mount). I was going to send it back and exchange it for the tall one, but I really wanted to have the detector mounted for a trip I'm taking on Thursday. After looking at thing I decided to try to use the riser mounted to the triple. It works well and is stable although I am concerned about side to side stability. I took a short ride with it and didn't experience any issues though.
Here's a pic of the mount and my GPS:

A couple of pics with the ix installed:

Here's one from above:

And one through the windscreen:

For the SmartCord, I velcroed it to the left control pod:

My next project is to build a mixer for the audio outputs of the GPS and Escort and feed them into a set of helmet speakers. I can actually hear the ix when it alerts, but the GPS doesn't have a speaker so I may as well tie the ix's audio into the same feed as the GPS to hear it in my helmet.

Very nice! The 9500 doesn't block as much of the instrumentation as I thought it would. Plus you still have a view of the portion of the speedo for legal riding, and a view of the portion of the tach for less-than-legal riding. :D
I hadn't thought of the SmartCord display next to the left grip, nice idea! How about a question of rain/water? Or do you ever go out in the rain?
Also, it looks like you've set up the RD to be removable for when you're parked at a restaurant on some ride or something and you don't want to leave your electronics out for all to see.
I run my RD through a smoked windscreen too, which supposedly cuts down on the LIDAR capabilities, but I'm planning on a dedicated laser jammer installation for that end of things.

I don't make it a habit of riding in the rain but I've ridden in my shair of downpours. The area behind the windscreen doesn't get very wet. I figure a ziploc bag will suffice for the RD. As for the SmartCord module, I can remove it from the control but it's held on the bike by the wires. I can probably use a ziploc bag for that too and tuck it under the fairing or maybe make something like a tiny shower cap that would cover it.
It actually blocks more of the tach than it appears to. I would prefer it block the speedo. I use the GPS for speed readings because the Duc's speedo is way optimistic. It will read 70 mph when I'm doing 60.
The ix is held to the plate via Velcro. It and the GPS goes in the top case or pannier whenever I'm not around the bike.
I'm not too worried about laser. If they can get a reading off of the small frontal area of the bike I'll accept the citation. :) Also, I really don't spend a lot of time on the interstate. Most of my riding is on the backroads and I'm more concerned with radar.

I think you would be surprised on how easy it is for the leo's to get laser hits on a bike. At the most recent test they were hitting a bike from 900ft+

Yes most definetly, it is Very easy to get a reading on the front end of such a bike have had no problem doing it with either of my lidars. The ProLaserII, or the Stalker LZ1. No problems nabbing a bike at even 1,500ft! With ease! Instant punch throughs. Just because there isn't much space doesn't mean anything. I use my ProLaserII to clock bikes at the Ice Race half Mile National at no problem, even on a motocross bike lowered down, with no frontal headlamp. I still get instant readings without problems.
The tinted windsheild posses two problems.
1. It holds in leakage for R.D.D.'s from what i've found with my Spectre, and VG-2's. Although on a bike this should merely be lost to the side. Although would still make it worse. Even though it is still lost to the side, the fact it is retained any longer than it has to be is not a positive thing.
2. It drastically affects your Lidar reception, as well as RADAR. If there is possibly any form of metalic in that tint.
For the rain. I reccomend one of those plastic cases from roy. Velcro the weather sealable plastic case to that pad. For the remote display, I am lost on that one, my only thought was velcro it inside your helmet where you can look down and see it. Then look down to see it if you need it that bad. When you hope on just put it in and hook it to the velcro, Just as we used to do for radio's in oval tracking on the ice, untill they banned it. Works well! Slight inconveinece of having ot latch it in but its right there then. Although, if it was me i'd just get some plexy glass make a glass box around it and seal the cord in the back with clear silicone. Then i'd find a place to fasten it. Thats just me though. Although, I think i'd actually just use the detectors primary display since i can see enough of it? I'd want a way to put the audio in my helmet though, so god and his world didn't hear my detector.

Thanks for the clarification on the laser. I just figured that the bike didn't have much reflective area for the laser to bounce of off. Now I know. Anyone install a jammer on a bike? :D
The tint is a "Dark Smoke" and I don't think there's any metallic material in it.
The remote display is more for the mute than the alert function. That's why it's on the left where I can hit the mute button with my left thumb. I may just seal the seams with silicone sealer and call it a day but I would be concerned about condensation building up inside. I do plan on hooking up the audio to a pair of helmet speakers. I first have to build a simple mixing circuit so I can hear the RD and the GPS. I'll do that the weekend after MotoGP.

Re: Escort 9500ix install on Ducati ST4s
Sounds like a good idea, should be easy to splice them together, or solder them together and make your own series circuit and fix that issue for sure, especially since escort does offer an exteral speaker jack, i'd just use the jack they give you for that. Since it is a different size than your average jack it seems? Can't remember? The x-50 is in the car at the moment resting peacefully for my next big trip :D.
As for the mute switch. Ya, thats understandable.
For the Lidar issue? YES. Roy has hooked up blinders to his bikes. Although the jammer brand is totally up to you, any of them will work and mount on your bike. I think he hooked his up around the fering area on the front, and around the rear fender area on the back. It easily created JTG proformance with one blinder up front, and one on back. Although that was a couple of years ago. Things have changed since then. I'd look at all your options when it comes to jammers, and get what you want, or can afford.
Glad I could help shed some light on the Lidar issue atleast ;). Thats the nice part about having the Lidar's I have is being able to see their limitations, and know what their limitations are not. Although, lately my advaces have come under fire from mutipule people in the community giving me grief, calling the cops on me for testing. Even though I have a License to operate radar etc. They still can't beleive what i'm doing could possibly be legal for me to own the electronics I do. To them I must be breaking the law.
What they neglect to realize is.
In Criminal Justice class they taught us.
1. Mala Prohibita
2. Mala in Se
There is a huge difference here.
First off Just because it's Mala in Se doesn't mean that it's Mala Prohibita.
Mala in Se means, it should be a crime in and of itself. Meaning, It is of a malice nature. Meaning it is morally wrong to the public. Although, technically it is not forbiden, nor against, "Written" law. They cannot prosecute you for being Mala in Se.
They can prosecute you for being Mala Prohibita. Which means being in violation of, "Written Laws" which are on the books with your Local, State, and Federal Governments.
Unfortunatly most people don't understand this, and they proceed to call the cops on me anyhow, yet when the cops get there I never go to jail.
Why? What i'm doing isn't illegal. It's as simple as that. I am licensed to do what i'm doing to test my electronics, and have every right to do so on "Public" property. Just because it "Should" be illegal doesn't mean it is. ;)
Yet I get people like this guy today, spouting off, as if he's intelligent. More so than "I." I just laugh, as I always do. Shake my head, and think, "Here we go yet again, with another person that doesn't understand their own justice system, thats going to simply waste usefull tax dollars, on a call to the cops to come BOTHER me, when they aren't going to find ANY reason to do anything. Except maybe politely ask me to stop what i'm choosing to do. Which I do not have to yeild my civil liberties, and I typically refuse to. I do so in good reason too. The people need to see that their calls are doing nothing. They are wasting the public's money, and the cop's time to come annoy me. After they see that, they'll stop calling them. After they call them enough, they either won't come anymore, or they'll realize "This isn't getting me anywhere. Why bother with him? Obviously what he's doing isn't illegal i've called the cops 20 times, yet they do nothing they'll tell their friends, and they'll tell their friends till eventually, they'll give up."
Just as they have with all their other rights to the cops. They can't get anybody to come together as a group to fight against their actions. So i'm not too worried about them coming together against me, or my intentions.
They've already showed their weakness as a community anyhow.

Re: Escort 9500ix install on Ducati ST4s
Id check out laser interceptor. I have a 2007 cbr that i will be installing a laser jammer on soon. I got popped with laser on the bike the other week and now i wish i would have already installed it :(
