Direct Wire won't turn off
Hey guys. I can't figure out what the problem is with the direct wire that I am having. It will remain on even when the car is turned off. From my knowledge it should turn off (seeing how its hooked through the radio) when the car is off. I drive a saab 9-3. Any ideas on how to make it work?

Does the radio shut off when you turn the car off?
Some vehicles have a timed relay, GM for example, that will provide power to the radio, pwr windows, ect for approx. 20 mins or until a door is opened. This is even after the key is removed from the ignition.
Also, most car stereos have a wire that has 12v on it at all times going into the stereo. This is usually for memory retention in the stereo itself. ie: clock, station presets, ect.
Make sure you are not tapped into this wire!

I am pretty sure I'm hooked into radio, should I go into radio antenna?

I think i was tapped into that wire o:) whoops haha
I'm now going through my cigarette lighter and it seems to be working.
Re: Direct Wire won't turn off
because they wanted to charge me 40 dollars for a connection pice that connects the hardwire to the fuse box i just solderd the red + wire to the ignition wire it works for me. i don't advise it but i fort i would just sure that with you
Re: Direct Wire won't turn off
Since I got that fixed... another question now.
I usually keep it under my rvm in the center of my windshield but I don't like to leave it up since it is very visible. If I put it to the right of the rvm over the passenger will the curvature of the windshield significantly decrease performance or should it perform just as it usually does?
I want to make a more permanent install.

Almost everyone here has their RD hardwired and mounted high, next to the mirror. Performance will most likely be better up there than where you have it now. Just mount it as straight and level as possible.
Re: Direct Wire won't turn off
I currently have it hardwired under my rvm and it is very straight and level. However I want to make it more discrete and put it higher to the right of the rvm with a smart cord. I can make it level but it definitely won't be straight due to the natural curve of the windshield. This is where I'm afraid I will lose some detection.

Every windshield is curved, yet almost all of us find our RDs work better the higher they are mounted. Just make it as straight and level as possible. You'll be fine. It'll probably work better up there.
