x50 blue & x50 red sensitivity difference?

Hey everyone, once again I am back with a question about the x50, yea its getting old i know- but there is somthing bothering me about my friends new blue x50. His k band sensitivty is not nearly as good as my red for some reason. I drive by my grocery and usually i get a pretty decent k band false, his blue x50 doesnt even pick up a k band while driving down that very road. I know the x50's dont have a k band filter, so I am wondering- do they use different internals in the reds vs the blues other then the LEDS?

Engineering and manufacturing (cheap in such high tech industry) detectors makes them individuals.
Detectors are hand tuned at the end of manufacturing line then sealed. I've meet this before and it is certain that there are differences between X50/X50 or RX65/RX65 or V1/V1 ( ooops - not THERE :lol: )

There should be no other difference between res/blue than the color of leds.

I think what he is saying is not if its a V1!

Escort's actually get out of calibration but they usually say so in the display, send it in for a check up/Repair.

DO you have to check somthing in the display or will it automatically come up

I am guessing it just comes up there is something in the owners Manuel about it

Yea I looked, I guess the calibration takes place every time you turn the detector on.

any kind of radio equipment will vary a little, but if one's missing alerts entirely, and they're both on highway at the time, yeah, there's something wrong with it. send it back.

Its not missing the band completely, but instead of beeping a weak k band in that one area- it stays quiet- and im not really sure if thats a good thing

Well, I think some of the early Escort X50's were defective. I bought an x50 red when it was brand new and I had to excange it for a new one because it had scratches on the back of it and the Ka sensitivity was horrible. Also the POP falsed all the time. Then my second X50 would always go into "Self Cal" mode. After sending it in twice for repair it came back to me and didn't work at all. I was starting to believe the V1 zombies, that the X50 is a POS lol. So by this time I was pissed and ended up talking to some high up manager at Escort. He sent me a brand new one and assured me this one would work properly, also he threw in the extended 3 year warranty for free. The 3rd one I have works great, no problems with it and the POP hardly ever falses. Escort made good at the end, I didn't end up paying for the return postage and they threw in the extended warranty. So I'm happy with it now.

I was driving through this morning, and the spot that usually falses lit up the detector. I dont know what was going on last night but i guess it wasnt liking me. I am about to go out and test them side by side to see if there really is a sensetivity difference.

The only real difference between the Blue and Red is the price, blue costing $40.00 more. This is for the added expense of the gases used in the blue LED lights.

Well I decided to try it out on my way to wendies to get somthing to eat. The radar detectors did not appear to conflict at all...

Anyways, was this a waste of time? MAYBE! there was no preformance difference between two at all. They both went off at the same time, no problem. What I DID notice, the POP falsed on the red much more then the blue. I am wondering maybe escort fixed a POP problem and integrated it in their detectors and didnt go public about it? Not necessarly the blues, just all their detectors in general. or maybe im just talking to much :cry:

It would have been nice to have pics of the 2 RDs displays showing what they detected and then the source.

those are the pics, it just didnt turn out well lol. The blue recived K band, and the red recieved POP, and the drug mart in the right of that pic is what set it off

your the 2nd person that I heard from that a new x50 falses less on pop with a newer model. Did the X50 come out with new software??

Maybe the red one is the older model and falses more on pop. Maybe the blue one has newer software and falses less.

Escort might have come out with new software. On one of my repair cards that they send back with the unit Tech SID said he replaced Antenna, updated software, and recalibrated unit.

I remember thinking to myslelf doesn't the X50 have the lastest sotware already?

So they might have come out with new software and not told anyone. I guess you would have to call them to find out for sure. Another thing that is a little suspicious is they keep pushing the date back to upgrade the Passport 8500 with POP.

Nah, the way the starter is on the car in question (VW Jetta) you take it out from the top, really, if it was like 30 F or better yet 40F I can take it out easily.

But I was too damn cold to do it, so I had to go home....

It's a pretty good yard I'm dealing with... it's a pretty long drive from Mtl to the Upstate NY location of it, but the guys are friendly and there are some good prices. A Mtl salvage yard quoted me $280 CND for the starter, this guy quoted me 20 bucks US... :lol: Can you beat that??

I believe both Escort and Valentine have new software out that reduces falsing on POP. You might call the company and inquire if you can send yours in for an upgrade.

That too... the gas is significantly cheaper in that area than on the island of Montreal, so much that the gas I burn going there and back is less than the money I save by buying the gas there! :lol:
