9500i Round 2...

I ran across another 9500i so I've set the STi aside for this week to give it another chance. I'm going to try and drive a couple hundred miles to put it through its paces.

I went around town today in A mode and it was dead silent. I drove in front of Kroger and still silent. So I put it in H mode and it picked up the doors. So I locked those out and so far that's the only store in town that uses any K band door so :shock:

The locals run instant on K and the STi has been doing a fabulous job of picking them up so I'm anxious to try out the 9500i again.

1 major thing that has been fixed is it no longer knocks out my sat radio.

1 thing I'm finding weird is when in auto dim its a little dark. This could be because its setting in the shade, and the area I have it will never get sunlight on it. But I bumped it up to medium and all is well.

So I'll update this with any new info as it comes.

I have driven a few hundred miles with mine, I have detected some radar where there usually isnt (thinking its a cop) but I have never crossed a LEO with the 9500i...

The 9500i's photosensor is on the top of the unit just left of the switches. If you put your finger over the two slots there you'll see the effects. Unfortunately for users that put the 9500i up high, it won't be getting much ambient light so its autobright mode may not work well as you've seen.

Thestation, I have done the same thing with mine. I have noticed that the K band signals that I would get with the X50 and V1 I have not picked up with the 9500i. This goes for the K band door openers.

I have seen a few leos with the 9500i and they were using KA. The reception was wonderfull. Even picking a leo up from the side was phemonominal with KA band.

As far as K, Laser or X it's yet to be tested.

As I mentioned in another thread, with the 9500i in AUTO mode, I caught K band over a mile away traveling at 45mph.

Wow, I had heard some bad things about the Block out feature but didn't realize there was such a bad problem. I have only blocked out 1 place so far. I suppose I could block out a few more in areas that there are so many it would be hard to tell whats real and what isn't. That way I can have a little more peace. It's in areas where there are major intersections so speeding is not an issue anyway.

Here is my 3 week follow up...

I have yet another nagging problem, for those of us who mount this up high at least in my Trans-Am its effecting the Auto Dim.

It has become my detector I love to hate. With all the issues, audible ramp up, auto dim, and the qwerky lock out feature I still love this thing.

"A" mode in shopping areas is a god send, but by far the best feature is the heads up display.

So far every threat I've had ample time to slow down. I still believe in this little guy. Now Escort get off your buttocks and make it shine!

It looks to me like a lot of 9500i posters have been trying to polish you for a long time to no avail. So I guess that makes you right... you can't polish a turd.

I've gotten good result so far.

Two days ago near flatlands of Marysville, CA I got a good two-three mile range on Ka band. It started out with two bars, then it did progress up as he approached (he left it on the entire time). I just wish it was more linear.

In Quincy, CA I also got a Ka alert on Main Street. There is a CHP office along that road. Soon I got to two parked patrol cars were sitting in the office driveway with no one around. It picked up two bars of Ka signals from parked CHP cars? Very odd, but I always seem to get a weak Ka signal around CHP cars on the older x50 as well, especially the front of their cars.

That's better than I got through that region..... I got about 0.8 on my 9500i. Not to troll this... but on my last trip down there, just before ummm... Kettleman City (a must stop for the in-n-out!!) I got a 5.1 notice from my V1. At first I was like... wtf? It peep'ed once or twice, went quiet for about a mile, than all of a sudden it pegged from a LEO coming the other way. Again, not meant to troll... just tell a story.

My best-ever with the 9500i is a wee-bit over two miles.

I was cruising down a three lane hwy friday and had my bel sti and 9500i placed on the sheild. First the STi POP came screaming on then about 15 seconds later the STi Laser screamed..... NOT one signal from the 9500i. Not one... unbelievable. POP then LASER and nothing from the 9500i. I beleive the 9500i is to high tech for it's own good. It's to busy keeping out the unwanted signals and misses the needed ones. Sent it back today. STi is the BEST on the Market. PERIOD. Now on to jammers.

i'm sorry your misinformed. you shouldn't even have pop turned ON because it will cause any detector to false to it. the 9500i did not alert to pop because IT's NOT USED.

My guess would be that since you where running both detectors at once the 9500i probably caused the pop false in the first place.

As per laser they are both great at detecting it. Where you able to visually see an officer running laser? If not it was probably another false alert the 9500i correctly filtered out.

Yes, actually there was a Sheriff Helicopter and 3 sheiffs in the area. the POP from the Helicopter came first then the sheriffs laser. Setting right on the corner of the main intersection. So I figured that if the POP/Laser is not exactly pointed at your car... the 9500i does not pick it up. The STi was going crazy. Oh well. I'm happy I had both for this accurance. Just reassued me.

*sigh*... please trust me on this, you where not hit with pop. it was a false more than likely caused by the 9500i. it sounds to me like they where searching for a stolen car. did you see an actual Laser Gun being used? because guess what if the sti goes off to laser the 9500i would as well.

You need turn on your POP in your 9500i before you get an alert.I got once,thought that was a leaky RD.

There is a K band speed sign in my area, and I ran at it with my 9500, getting exactly the same distance as I did from my X50. They both picked up the sign as I went around the turn (the sign is around a slight left then at the top of a hill about 1.25 miles away).

I think the sensitivity is not drastically less than the X50, it's just a much QUIETER detector. The 9500 has about half the potency in it's ramp up than the X50. The audible blips are more spaced out, and it seems to me that there are only about 5 levels of audible change.

Perhaps because they are built on the same platform, users expected an experience similar to that of the X50, but they are obviously very different detectors. The 9500 is just much quieter. It's a very passenger-friendly detector, in my opinion. And perhaps I'm just advocating for the underdog, but my experience so far (about 400 miles) hasn't made me doubt it's ability to save me against a LEO.

This weekend I'm going to shoot over to my hometown, where a buddy of mine is a Marshall. I'm going to run my 9500 against another friends X50 and see how they preform. We're even going to take some video.

Either that, or it falsed due to IO K/Ka, or it falsed to a leaky detector in the vincinity.

But regardless, the "test" was invalid due to the "two detectors at the same time" scenario.

I wondered the same. It seems like an awfully expensive speed enforcement measure.

I've never heard of airborne RADAR/LIDAR enforcement, and am thus wondering if it's even technically feasible. :?:

NO it isn't feasible. The Doppler shift if radaring from helicopter to a vehicle below you would be theoretically 0, so there wouldn't be a speed reading per se. Think about it, the taget vehicle wouldn't actually be moving closer or farther away from the radar, it would be moving perpendicular to it.

I just took my last of the three 95001's I bought for a final test-run yesterday.

I put about 250 miles on it.

It was, granted, a hell of a lot less nosy than my V1.

The one CHP I encountered running a radar while driving down the road, it picked up about 10 car lengths away, on a straight road. Ka band.

If was far less then what my V1 typically picks up. (record against a Ka on a CHP is 4.8 miles on I5, Southbound, just below Sacramento)

I wanted to give the 9500i an honest try because some folks around here keep saying it's better than the V1 at picking up Ka... which is 99% of what I encounter.

This one run-in I had though... did not seem to support that.

I had it running in Highway mode, GPS off, and I was doing over 55mph. The LEO was coming the other direction, with very little traffic to disrupt the waves.

I do think I'm gonna sell my very last 9500i.... anybody want it ?? It has less than 300 miles on it. My other two I just sent back... but I'm tired of sending these things back to Escort, so this one is just going to whoever out there wants it.

Performance wise on a straight level road out in the desert the STi, 9500i, & V1 all perform the same. My guess is when we factor in the different environments, then we see these differences.

The 9500i is staying as my primary detector. Everyones situation is different but I've always had ample time to slow down, and man do I enjoy the peace and quiet.

Just finished a 400 mile trip with my 2nd 9500I and I have logged in about 8000mi in total. Got a KA alert around a bend easily over 1mi away and 2 K alerts in about the same distance. One of the K alerts was from a sign and at almost the same time I was being lasared. It could have been messy if I was use to K band going off all the time (I love how quiet this thing is) the cop must of thought I had the best detector in the world. :D

I have had 2 times where KA went off only a few car lengths ahead, in these cases there was no way of me actually being hit with true KA because I was going almost 70% over the speed limit and he didn’t pull me over. The radar gun must have been facing opposite of me or on his seat.

Overall I have been very happy with my 9500i.
