Continuous false laser?
What could set off my V1 to alert a laser signal?
I was sitting @ a traffic light and the V1 does an all out laser alert (3 horizontal lines, full strength, laser LED, arrows, two-tone siren)...then it stops for about a second or two and does it again...and again...and again. Pretty soon it's just singing me a two-toned song as I'm sitting there. I hit the knob to mute it and it mutes until it finds a "new" one (I guess) because then the volume jumps up again.
I doubt there was really a cop just target practicing with my V1 =/...

Certain taillights leak enough infrared light around the 904nm wavelength to set off laser detectors.
-
Was it only when you were sitting at that light? Did it stop after the light turned green and traffic started moving? Was there a GMC Envoy or Chevy Trailblazer in front of you at the time? If you answer yes to these three questions, it was the neon brakelight on the car in front of you that was causing your laser falses.
-
BTW, BMW Z8 taillights also use neon tubes, does anybody know whether they leak into the IR spectrum?
We have more Z8s running around here than Trailblazers
-
Can't say that I've ever been behind a Z8. Heck, I didn't even know there was such a thing as a Z8. Z3, Z4, yes though, lots of those...
In addition to the IR spectrum, the pulse rate of the neon is also a factor. The GM unit pulses at a rate that matches police laser guns, which is why the V1 reacts to it.

Also some of the 'newer' Bravada models will cause the V1 to laser false.

Did you notice an Infinity facing you in the other lane?
It could have been the laser assisted "Intelligent" cruise controls on Infinity FX35, FX45, and QX56 SUVs.

A trailblazer set mine off the other day. It was just a single alert though
-
hmm...I don't recall which cars were around when I got the false alert but it could have been tail lights. Also the other day my roommate was driving in front of a Chevy Suburban/Tahoe (couldn't tell from the front) but he got a constant laser falsing for about 1/2 mile. This case was weird because were driving down the access road and there was nothing around...just trees and the highway about 100ft to our left.
-
Yeah, I've had a trailblazer that set mine off for the whole time I was stuck behind it at a light. If you drive a Lexus with the adaptive cruise control, that will also set off your v1's laser.

I came up on the local Alpina Z8 today, but I didn't stay behind him long enough to see him brake (we were on the Julia Tuttle so we were both cruising).
