The X50 is quite a bit better, both detection wise and even more so, feature wise.
uhhhhhhhh. how many more of these are you going to post.
sorry needed to move quick and was trying to get a fast answer

No, but i do know that it was purchased from Best Buy 3-4 years ago.
I it is Rev 5. Good?
The Rev. 5 is held in high regard by X50 users. If it's in working order, I'd say go for it.
x2, I have a Rev. 5 X50 Blue, and I love it... wouldn't trade it for anything.Quote:

The 940 has digital volume control while the x50 has the old traditional knob that wears out eventually. The 940 has SWS and tutorial mode. The x50 doesn't.

Thanks for your reply. Too late though since i made the purchase. You however must have gotten an even better deal than me. I see them going for alot more money than either of us paid. Your better deal doesn't make mine bad deal. Also, i see on this board that many people are swearing by the older version and trying to get their hands on them, also, supposedly the range is a bit better with the x50. In addition i personally beleive the dial volume is better than the push button since it is easier to raise or lower quickly while driving. The electronic control requires you to keep your finger on the button until the desired volume. Atleast i have a good backup anyway, and if i don't like the x50 as much, that will become the background. However, based on the comments here, i can't go wrong either way.
Rose 1 - one other thing, all of those creature comforts of the 940 are great, but at the end of the day i want the one that will give me better radar/lidar detection. Let's not forget the most essential purpose of a detector.
Not to mention the biggest thing: EXP meter on the X50!Quote:

Leave everything on except POP, that you can turn off.Quote:

thanks airmoore! Is their a listing of where POP is used? are you sure their is no POP use in NY/NJ?
http://www.radardetector.net/viewtopic.php?t=589
POP cannot be used to write a ticket, and I have never encountered it in my years of using radar detectors in New York.
Its listed there, but I have never seen it. You will get so many false alerts anyways, that you will dismiss the POP alerts after awhile, as a junk detector.
You can leave it on if you want, especially just to get used to it... but, I wouldnt... and don't in NY.
thanks airmoore! although the link you gave me with the list shows POP use in NY. Is it rare? I guess i will leave it on at first, and see how annoying it gets or if it is a real encounter or falsie.
Yeah, that is your best course of action... personally I always leave it off. As I said I have never once encountered pop in many years of driving with an RD... and it cannot be used to write a ticket.Quote:

No problem, there is an abudance of information on here regaurding it, but I along with other will help as much as we can. Get used to the basic functions, before you mess around with too much.

i think i have read enough on these forums to know that no detector is going to save you from a direct Laser hit. You need a jammer. However when mounted correctly they both give you a fighting chance to detect the splatter. Perhaps the V1 is better. One day when i am rich as you i will be able to afford both and make my own determination, until then i will take the opinion from those able to offer evidence and not just bash the other guy. Thanks for your input anyway.
by the way i do give credibility to your opinion on the V1 as you own the other 2 as well. As i said one day i will find out for myself.
While I might be out in left field, would you consider pooling your detector collection, sell it, and step up to the Big Boy?Quote:

I might just do that. See if my friend will lend me his V1 for a while. I want to play with the X50 for a while first though. I do know from owners of V1s that once you get used to the directional arrows you can't live without them.
In Jersey on route 80 Easr once in a while LEOs sit in the median right under the overpass, state trooper is out of his car with the high leather boots and the whole get up holding a radar gun like his pistol aiming righht down the highway. It scared the heck out of me, luckily i was in the left lane running along side a tractor trailer. I guess i wasn't peaking out long enough for him to get a fix.
I think many will agree that the 940 is probably the "best value" @ $125. It really does quite well. I can't say that the X50 performs that much different when comparted to the 940. Keep in mind that 99% of my encounters are K and Ka.
I think we can look at the recent GOL testing for hard evidence comparing the X50 against the 940.
yes i saw the GOL testing and they were both even in performance except the x50 outperformed around curves.
Again, also features are important to consider as well.
its true much better features on the x50, and actually based on the GOL results the X50 overwhelmingly outperformed around the curve detection
Did it? I'll go back and look more closely.Quote:

your right about the price but if you go to the beginning of the thread you will see i got it for $180. so now i have a great backup in the v940.

One thing i mis from the V940 is the spoken alerts "you have a Ka alert", now i have to look every time.
