Kind of a newbie here. Some of you have said that the V1 is not a good choice for bikes... Why?? $300 vs $500 is not a problem for me.

I currently have an 8500 on my bike, but plan in replacing it with a V1. As long as your V1 is kinda offset to the left or right, I dont see any problem with the rear antenna being blocked.
I am just not a fan of it on a motorcycle, I much prefer (high end)Belscorts units on a bike.
I have used both V1 and numerous Belscorts extensively on my bike.

Tell me why you think this way.
I don't think the V1 is a bad choice for bikes.
But I'm inclined to think that the V1 isn't able to perform to the best of it's unique abilities using the dual antenna layout as the rear antenna would generally have a lousy view of the road behind you if it's mounted in a center location in front of the rider.
The display isn't bright, and you CANNOT change it manually (very big pet-peeve), its rather wide (takes up much of the gauges in my c0ck-pit compared to the slimmer Belscorts), requires its own unique fittings for its microjack 2.5, where across the Belscort line they have the more common size jack 3.5(Ie: CD players etc)... allows you to test and use other belscorts with your set-up... (hold the STi and maybe the 9500i). The arrows have a more difficult time then normal when it comes to being accurate. Just a host of things...
With that said I ride with 2 people who use it on an everyday basis... compared to about 6 Belscort users.
Overall, its up to each individual...
i use a V1 on the busa... i love it.... i have had no issues with the rear facing antenna or the arrows working properly.

I use a V1 on my bike and it works great.
I have also used the X50 blue and it worked fine, but the V1 performed better for me.
I do like the X50 blue display better, it doesn't wash out as much in the sun as the V1 does.
Not a big deal for me I use the Vizalert anyway, but something to consider.
i do use the form fitting radar covers though, so i don't know if they affect the V1 display washing out or not.
Haven't had any issues with radar alerts and the arrows, but Laser can be a bit erratic sometimes on rear shots. definitely a big difference between night and day time on the laser reception though. it picks it up much easier at night. FYI. :)
Oh, a couple of the guys brought up possible issues regarding placement.
my placement is off to the side slightly.
with it centered, it "could" be more of an issue for some.
here's a pic:

Im happy running my V1 on any of my 5 street bikes....
i run a headset (in helmet speaker) that i turn up so i
can hear the "alerts" when im wearing ear plugs.

A ZX-7R, its front end is huge (Wide) but the angle its at is just unreal and there is no room for anything without completely covering gauges, let alone the V1's bit of extra width.Quote:

Something you might want to consider for that bike: An extended windscreen, it adds like 3 or 4 inches on it, and its got a different angle to it, takes the wind right from your chest, to the top of your helmet. (Then again where the wind hits depends on your height)... it will also probably give the V1 a bit of shielding.
its a 99 1100...w/ the zx11 cams, degreed, jetted & full muzzyQuote:

i have no problem knocking out 1000 miles in a day as is...ive
done it more than once (boring interstate...when you gotta be there
its STILL better than driving a car).
if i REALLY need the protection i fly the Kouch (K1200LT).
if im making a long <quick> trip i put the V1 in a zip lock bag
and rubber band the "stray" plastics of the bag down tight.
tell you how much a nut i am 'bout ridding long distance...ive ridden
that moto guzzi v11 naked sport 950mi in one sitting...and its got
CLIP-ON bars on it...i got up the next day and road 450 more to
finish my ride.
My dad's is very similar: He JUST (this winter) got new cams (not sure exactly what they were?) with a different sprocket set-up, its always been: jetted, a full Muzzy (titanium exhaust I believe) and a K&N.Quote:

I'm sure your bike is very similar to my dads in performance (if not darn near identical)... its nice knowing that whatever one of us does, as far as acceleration the other can do it if needed (passing for example).
My bike is a ZX-7R with a K&N, jet-kit, Full Muzzy racing exhaust (the ones they actually used for when they raced the ZX-7R[R])...
As far as performance goes:
My dads Z-Rex would probably be faster 0-60, but the Z-Rex's lift their front too easy (as you know), so for the most part his 0-60might be faster on paper, but mine is easier to achieve a faster 0-60on. (Not sure about this though... but it seems this way).
Id say 80-100 MPH we are darn near tied, 100MPH+ my bike just pulls with its 'aero-package' and its massive increase in HP via the flawless design of the Ram-Air Ducts. (After all it is a race bike, so its best from 90-140MPH).
Cornering: His turns in better, its a lot more flickable (mostly due to a higher center or gravity and 180's instead of 190's), my bike is much more solid in the corners, and is much much more forgiving with the throttle because of the design.
Comfort: HaHa, my bike doesn't have any? And the Z-REX is one of the most comfortable 'sports' out there.
nothin' like knockin' 1300 miles out in a single sitting on a K1200LT...Quote:

I rode a friend's R1 the other day. Nice bike...strong too! But the ergos weren't exactly working for me (6'5") and I could barely see the bottom of the gauges as it was. To squeeze some RD fun in there wouldn't work for me at all.Quote:

Disregard, I saw your post about the mounting a page or two back. thx
One thing about the V1 that bugs me is the need to add an extra headphone box from the V1 to interface to an Autocom (basically, an audio mixer and intercom). The Escort's have the jack already built-in them and when you hear the "Ding. Ka Alert" that overrides the music out of the Zumo or XM radio in the headphones you know it means business.
I use a Garmin quick release on the bottom of it and I can toss it into my pocket in the event I'm away from the bike or it begins to rain (and I'm not speeding in the rain!).
