Please tell me you're going to do something about that accordion-style shift boot.
Unless of course you actually intend to LEAVE the whole interior out...
I had no idea you could get a 2 door base model Impreza. We don't have em here in Oz so I always assumed it was only the limited run of Impreza WRX STi's that were 2 door. Learn something new everyday!
I see you've started with the WRX wheels and rear spoiler. I've got a MY99 WRX Sedan so i'm a big fan of the classic shape.
Keep us posted dude would like to see the finished product.
I really haven't really thought about it. The shift boot doesn't really bother me and I like it better than the typical leather shift boots.
I'm going to put black door cards and a black armrest in... that's the only other interior pieces that will be put in.
Yup :) It's nice not having these with factory turbos because it makes the car rare especially nice when you can swap any year STi motor into them. Thanks for the props!
No worries, definitely a unique vehicle there!
I'm sure you have plenty of info from NASIOC and the like but just in case;
quiet a few people in Australia have done a similar conversion on the 4 door impreza so you might get some info from www.perth-wrx.com and www.rexnet.com.au
Good luck!
Can't wait to see the outcome. I heart subbies.
i think your doing it backwards, gutted interior should be your last mod to make if you can no longer keep the car street legal. racecars dont have interiors, daily drivers do
that is sick..u must have dropped like 300 lbs..and def drop an STi engine in that...make is a sleeper ;)
It's actually a very practical and accepted method to reduce weight and increase the power to weight ratio. Even Mercedes has done this on their production 2008 CLK 63 AMG Black Series. No back seat. It's essentially at street legal race car with all the luxuries!

I completely agree but the entire interior smelled nasty and was tan. I'd rather drive a gutted car then smell the nasty stink again.. it was disgusting.
Update:
Courtesy of three young kids driving a brand new Civic Si with temp tags into me last tonight. He did a quick lane change into me which spun me. I did 3 spins in the middle of of the interstate and wasn't hit again... luckily.
Entire driver's side of the car is screwed along with the tires and wheels I just bought. I went and got three estimates today around 4700-5000 for a complete repair. Waiting to hear from the insurance companies on if they are going to total the car, I'm going to do everything I can to prevent them from totaling it.

noTe, that sucks man. Hopefully all your time and hard work wasn't wasted. At least this sh1t happened before you did some kind of major engine mod or something. Could have been a lot more time and effort wasted. :(
Holy crap. Did you get their tag number or what?
Also, they did you a favor with those tires, they're utter garbage.
good thing you didn't get hurt, what kind of damage did the Civic get?
wow f'in kids i swear....good thing ur LI was not hit ;)
better put that interior in or the adjuster wont give you **** for the adjusted value and total your car out lickedy split. if you have free time might want to clean it all and put it back in before the adjuster sees everything. i have had two cars with body damaged totalled out and having a squaky clean interior really adds alot to the adjusted value. they cant always tell what a car is worth with bodydamage so the interior says alot more
So is there suspension damage or what?
If it's just body damage...tell him that you absolutely don't want it totalled, and if he were going to total it, just have him cut you a check for the maximum amount that he can give you without totalling it, and you'll be happy to eat the difference.
The fact is, race cars are ugly. Race cars are not worth anything. Race cars work, and nothing more...and until you get to the point where you are maintaining 150+ mph for extended periods of time, some dented body panels don't have much effect on how well the car works.
If you have any confusion about this, look at some old Porsche 944 and 914 race cars. They have ugly, dull, patchy paint, dented body panels, goofy-looking home-made aero-work, hideous wheels, interiors that look like dungeons, and are probably worth so little, you would have to pay somebody to take them away.
And they are scary fast.
I'll see if I can dig up that video of Joe's fire-belching 944 race car...
I'm still waiting for the insurance company to tell me how much damage they think is done. I really just think the alignment is out of wack but without taking it apart I don't know yet.
The friend of mine who owns a body shop told me he can work with the adjuster and told me not to get bullied around by the adjuster.
I understand but the only modifications I've done to the car are taking the nasty smelly tan interior out. I didn't even do anything else to the car nor even raced it because it has the stock 2.2L non turbo motor still in it.
You also can have fun track cars that look nice. My previous car (SRT-4) had no issues looking nice and I did a few track and autocross days.

There's a difference between doing "a few track and autocross days" in your street car, and having a race car.
Trust me, I did "a few track days" (weekends, actually) in my street car. It was fun. Now I drive the track in a race car, and it is a different thing...I like it, and sure, it's not NECESSARY. Lots of people do track days in their street cars and NEVER progress to a race car. I'm just saying that if you ARE going to make this particular car into a race car, you can use this as an opportunity to get used to how it is going to be, AND use the insurance company to convert those useless undented body panels you used to have into useful cash you can have now instead ;)
Glad you weren't hurt, noTe - sucks about the car, though. :(
Keep us updated on what's going to happen.
I see what you mean.... I probably would do that but I still like having a nice looking car too and the Subaru coupes are very rare so having them in a nice condition is always awesome too. I think of cars in two ways... cornering capabilities and art. That's why I love cars so much :)
Thanks Allen!Quote:

Update:
They are in process of giving me a check for $3933.00.
My cheapest estimate for my car was $4200 and the most expensive was $5070. I'm so ****ing pissed off right now, it's funny because I actually had to call Safe Auto to get the information and they never called me about it. Looks like I have to wait until Monday to argue about it too.
Why not let um total it, and buy it back on the cheap?
6-23-08 Update:
Car is NOT totaled. Safe Auto did low ball me but once it goes into the shop they have to cover everything that is found wrong. I also believe the knuckle is damaged or the strut because the car still handles ****ty with the spare I put on it.
The body shop is going to try and get me a RS front bumper and the RS molding on the side instead of the L molding. I'm also going to pay extra and get the other side molding painted as well along with the door handle.
RS bumpers don't seem to be more expensive than a L bumper from Subaru.
Here is a copy of the police report.. I'm car #2. I actually did more than 1 spin, but whatever, lol.

UPDATE
Dropped off the Impreza this afternoon and here are the list of confirmed new changes! All I need now is the RS hood and side skirts.
-JDM Bumper Beam (required to fit RS front bumper)
-JDM clear corners
-RS front bumper
-RS orange signal lights
-Both mirrors, side molding and door handles painted white
-Driver side quarter panel
-Driver side door
-Driver side fender
-Rear bumper being repainted (had marks from previous owner that needed fixed anyways!)
-New driver side rear tire
-Alignment
-Possible new rear knuckle or tierods.. still has to be looked at by the body shop.
Jdm!!!!
Looks like it'll be a cool ride when it's all done up! :)
Arrgh....insurance companies......
And bro, even from that police report drawing, I'm still thankful that you were OK. That must have been one heck of a scary set of spins!
New pics! Bumper needs fog lights and fog light covers, but that's coming soon.
Huge difference in the different bumper and other extra pieces painted to match the RS model. I only paid $100 more for it all. :)
Hell, you can't even see the LI sensors hardly at all on the front bumper now.
