Self calibration/service required poll
Please no side-talk:
If you have received the dreaded Self cal message...List the following;
1) What type of Bel/Escort product do you own?
2) How long did you have the RD before you got the self-cal message?
3) Did the service required message come on after the self-call message? If so, how long after?
4) Was your unit replaced under warranty?
5) Would you purchase an Escort/Bel again?
First and last Escort product I will ever own
1) Escort Passport 8500 X50
2) 6 months
3) Yes. ~24 hours.
4) Yes. Thanks Best Buy
5) I won't be purchasing an Escort product ever again. There has been WAY too much of this self-cal/service required stuff going on.
Re: Self calibration/service required poll
1) What type of Bel/Escort product do you own?
X50 rev. 3
2) How long did you have the RD before you got the self-cal message?
About 1 year
3) Did the service required message come on after the self-call message? If so, how long after?
My X50 didn't come out of the self cal message. I had to turn off the detector
4) Was your unit replaced under warranty?
Didn't send it in. I never got the self cal message again
5) Would you purchase an Escort/Bel again?[/quote]
I'll probably stick with Valentine over Escort from now on until I see proof from an unbiased party that shows an Escort is better

I have been lucky anuff not to have this display on both my first 8500 or my new X50.
Yes I would purchase again from Escort.
My only issue with Escort is there bad Costomer service as I really wish they would do better with this as many do agree.
Re: First and last Escort product I will ever own
1) BEL 995
2) two weeks
3) yes, it occurred within 30 minutes of self-cal message
4) I bought from BEL direct and returned it to them. I kept the 985.
5) Yes. RDs are complex devices and they are going to fail once in awhile. I like BELs, but I still do prefer my V1.

Re: Self calibration/service required poll
1) What type of Bel/Escort product do you own?
Bel RX65
2) How long did you have the RD before you got the self-cal message?
8 months
3) Did the service required message come on after the self-call message? If so, how long after?
Yes, 5min
4) Was your unit replaced under warranty?
Just happened today, haven't made a warranty claim yet
5) Would you purchase an Escort/Bel again?
Undecided
A few things to note here: I received the 'Service Required' message once before. I associated it to heat of the day and the sun on the detector, the RX65 was almost too hot to touch. There were similar conditions today, the only thing different is today's message was preceded by the 'Self Cal' note. I am always turning on and off the car without turning off the RX65. The voltage surge may be at fault.

3) Did the service required message come on after the self-call message? If so, how long after? No, I exchanged it after the 2nd Self Cal

5) Would you purchase an Escort/Bel again? Sure, why not? My replacement X50 has been fine so far.
