Escort 9500i - did not go off and trooper gave me ticket
I was on a long distance trip today and saw several cops. My radar detector would go off periodically when I saw them coming.
However, one state trooper who was headed towards me turned around and pulled me. My detector did not alert me whatsoever. I asked the officer how he clocked me and he said radar. I accepted the ticket and went on my way. A few miles down the road I passed another cop and radar went off. I passed some grocery stores and it went off. An hour later I passed one of those stationary "This is Your Speed" signs with radar and big red LED readout on it. My radar went off.
I have POP, instant on, and all the standard features turned off at the factory turned on. I get POP alerts once or twice a week.
I called Escort when I got home and am sending the unit in for diagnostics/service to make sure it is functioning properly.
I'm honestly thinking this state trooper eyeballed me and gave me a ticket without using his radar. I was in the left lane and wasn't speeding that I know of. He gave me a nice ticket for 15 over.
Any suggestions? If it comes back from Escort with a thumbs up, can I file a complaint against this trooper? Maybe he has a record of complaints doing this. Should I just have my lawyer bring it up in court or just get me out of it? I'm really pissed off b/c I rely on my detector to tell me when I'm being clocked and it literally did NOTHING, no lights, no beeps, nothing. GPS filter was turned on, but I have never filtered that location before as it was a special trip I have not traveled before.
Any help is appreciated. I'm beginning to really despise the police. Instead of getting rapists and murderers off the streets they harass normal citizens driving 10 over the posted speed limit on a freaking HIGHWAY.

Maybe he was using K band and you TrueLocked your way into a ticket...the lockout area is about ten miles isn't it djrams??;)

Re: Escort 9500i - did not go off and trooper gave me ticket
Must be Jazzy, if he only had a V1 this would have never happened???

not likely 10miles...but far more than it should be! .5 mile or more at least
sorry about the ticket...but if you use TrueLock, you had it coming

Both of these comments are irresponsible. This is a first time poster. He has no idea of what you are talking about. He came here for advice. Both of you know this has nothing to do with Truelock.
East1999, I apologize about the immature comments above. If your 9500i is working properly, which is sounds like it is, the LEO was lying to you, probably because he noticed you had a RD and wanted to get a point across to you that they don't work. LEOs hate RDs.
-
Re: Escort 9500i - did not go off and trooper gave me ticket
It could have been a quick trigger IO hit that the 9500i filtered out? I know my RX65 has missed quick triggers that my V1 caught.
Real World Example:
Driving with the RX65 I pass a LEO parked on the side of the road. My Bel remained silent as I passed.
Swapped out the RX65 for the V1:
Driving with my V1 passing the same LEO the V1 beeped very briefly as I approached. As I drove by the LEO gave a few more very brief quick trigger shots to oncoming cars.
Maybe it wasn't TrueLock but just filtering? It happens.

Re: Escort 9500i - did not go off and trooper gave me ticket
If it where radar the detector at a minimum would have alerted you to the ticket. If he was moving then it could not have been vascar, and since he was coming the other way he couldn't have paced you. The only way the detector would not have alerted is if he passed you, and then hit you with the rear antenna via instant on. This would have put the detector in a forward facing scenario, and if it didn't have anything to bounce he could have gotten you without a alert.
Probably time to hire a lawyer, or contact the national motorist association (NMA).
-
Re: Escort 9500i - did not go off and trooper gave me ticket
Just for curiousity what kind of car do you drive, I wonder if he profiled you? I would think he lied, I don't think he quick triggered you, kinda hard to do that and drive IMHO.
-
Re: Escort 9500i - did not go off and trooper gave me ticket
Possibilities:
- gun is out of calibration/defective
- detector is defective
- officer used quick-triggered radar (No Alert)
- officer used K-Band POP (No Alert)
- officer lied
-
Re: Escort 9500i - did not go off and trooper gave me ticket
That sux, Next time you question if he used radar, ask to see the target speed on his radar equip. What was your speed and how accurate was he with the speed he put on the ticket?
-
Re: Escort 9500i - did not go off and trooper gave me ticket
The officer could have also used just one shot of Ka band POP which will produce an alert on a Bel/Escort only 50% of the time, but only then if POP is turned on in the radar detector.
If the officer didn't lie, then I suspect that he illegally wrote a ticket based either on using POP alone, or that his radar gun was way out of calibration. I strongly suspect that his radar gun was deliberately detuned to operate a bit outside of the legally authorized FCC bandwidth for whatever radar band the gun is supposed to operate on.
-
Re: Escort 9500i - did not go off and trooper gave me ticket
I'm also wondering if he profiled your car and written you up just for the hell of it as well.
I got one for some "Invisible Pedestrian" during a b.s. traffic grant for leo overtime. Of course, asking the officer "What pedestrian?" only enraged him and me following it with, "You must'a not seen him or hit him either as you were following me through the same intersection as well as the other two-lanes of traffic"
I turned it over to a lawyer which cost me almost $900, but he made the cop look like a fool on the witness stand and it got tossed since the cop wrote a bunch of stuff that was wrong on the ticket as well - 4 things wrong actually - and he was a traffic cop. If there was a pedestrian, I would have paid it, but it became an issue of principle from a lying cop to justify his overtime. It was one of those "grant money" stings where they get outrageous overtime money on their normal off-day to write a lot of tickets in a short 4 hour period of time, i.e. "Maximum Enforcement."
Anyone who believes a cop always tells the truth on a witness stand is seriously misled. A good traffic lawyer can rip them a new one. It makes it worthwhile to watch them crumble in court when a good and mean lawyer goes at them when they should know better. When the court audience snickers, you know you've won. Retribution in public in front of their fellow officers waiting for their traffic court turn is a b!tch, and it's really funny to watch too! :D
Moreso when the lawyer high-fives you in the hall and the cop makes some sneering remark upon leaving. :p:D:D
If you can afford a lawyer, get one and sit back and watch the show.

if he was in range of a lockout with the same band, it most definately could be a lockout that LOCKED out a LEO.

I'm not always right, but I can read. This had absolutely nothing to do with Truelock. Keep searching Radarkid.

Did you even read the original post. He said he was in a new area he normally does not travel and didn't use any lockout.
I agree the initial replies were irresponsible and unhelpful. I respect V1 owners I don't bash them for their personal choice. It's a different style/use of a detector.
We can all help each other in their use of their respective choice. Which the initial replies didn't do.
The 9500i isn't perfect and neither is the V1.

Yeah, it's pretty funny. He wants Truelock to fail so bad to justify his misunderstanding, but 9500i/ix/ci's continue to sell like hotcakes and there are still no reports of failure. Living life hoping for something that works for just about everyone to fail is totally sad. It's hilarious!:lol::lol:

LEO's don't always save the speed on the radar. Besides, he doesn't have to show you anything. My bet is he saw the RD and made a bad stop. Curious, was he correct with the speed he sited for?

I think you have that backwards. Every day that goes by with no Truelock tickets proves you wrong and me right. The odds of getting a ticket because of Truelock are so low, they aren't worth even considering. That's the truth.
There has however been a recent example of someone turning their volume all the way down due to false alerts and then receiving a ticket. If this member had been using Truelock, he would never have had to turn his RD down at all. There was also a close call reported on here for the exact same reason, but I won't count that one since he didn't get a ticket. So, now you need a Truelock ticket just to break even. Good luck!
http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...ed-myself.html
So, ticket count due to false alerts:
Other RDs 1, Truelock enabled RDs 0.

agreed, but alot of times if they use radar they save your speed to show you before clearing the gun after the stop. I agree to ya, he doesnt have to show you notta.

Re: Escort 9500i - did not go off and trooper gave me ticket
Lets nip this Truelock thing in the bud -- now! The Escort 9500i will set a lockout radius of 1000 feet or less as long as the signal which you lock out doesn't exceed 1/2 strength on the display at the moment of locking it out and until you drive far enough away to exit the lockout area. The 9500i Truelock works just as intended -- locking out falses as you drive by them and not by driving into a parking lot and then right up to the false alert source(s) before locking out the signal(s).
Driving right up to false alert sources such that the signal is over half strength to full strength will automatically set a lockout radius of 1/2 mile and, if the signal is strong enough (signal strength meter pegged out a full strength), can and likely will cause additional adjacent frequency blocks to also be locked out due to signal saturation in the antenna.
Needless to say, the 9500ix automatically handles things much better, and uses completely different Truelock algorithms which address these potential issues.
Thats the long and the short of it!

I have my facts. They're formed from experiencing LEO lockouts in more than one location, different days - far from falses. I don't need any of your BS facts to sway me after EXPERIENCING what I preach first hand. Others have as well, and your claim that every day that goes by without a ticket reported on this forum is proof you're right (as I said before) is irrellevant. Wow, quite a few responses!
First, Although my last two detectors have been Escort, I don't have any problem with the V1 and was strongly considering it when I made my latest purchase. I went with Escort just b/c they are what I was used to and my last one performed well. Next time I'm looking to buy, I will certainly keep open minded about the V1.
I had POP detection turned on and whatever the rest of the detections are that are off by default. I had never locked out that area with GPS filtering before (or any area within 50 miles of that location). I did not have music playing or anything that would have prevented me from noticing the alert.
He gave me the ticket for 15mph over, even though I was honestly going no more than 10 over. I was on a major highway. I saw him coming from the other direction and immediately slowed down to 5 over the speed limit (though I don't do the car nose dive or let them see my brake lights when I slow down). I drive an eclipse, so it does look like a sports car. I was also in the left lane (speeders lane) and after I saw him pass I flipped my blinker and merged into the right lane.
He came up and said, "any reason why you were speeding?" And I said, "I didn't think I was speeding." He walked away and came back with a ticket for 15 over. I then said, "can I ask how you clocked me?" He said "radar". I said, "that's funny, my detector never went off". He snapped back, "must be broken". I said thanks and went on my way.

I think that the cop lied and never hit you with radar, but instead merely eyeballed your speed.

If he had a RD like the 9500ix with all the false alerts locked out, he never would have turned his RD volume down. Dumb or not, he turned his RD volume down to avoid false alerts. False alerts are what prompted this action. Truelock was designed to eliminate false alerts so the user won't have to take these types of actions. Truelock would have saved this guy a ticket. Period.

The point is that Truelock works. I defend this feature because I know it works. I see it every day. If I didn't prove you wrong time after time, new members might think you actually know what you are talking about and be afraid of Truelock. That's not acceptable.
You're pretty much on an island on this for a reason. There are many members here using Truelock every day, WITH NO REPORTS OF A TICKET DUE TO TRUELOCK FAILING THEM. Just the users on this board, with just these thousands of LEO encounters, shows how unlikely Truelock failing someone is. I don't need the data from the rest of the world to prove my point. Your assumption of high risk has been blown out of the water using just forum members accounts. Not one known ticket in over 18 months.
You not liking this feature doesn't make you any less wrong. If it was a huge failure as you try to make people think, THERE WOULD BE SOMEONE ON THIS FORUM CRYING ABOUT IT. Your desperate attempts to find backers for your hypothesis speaks volumes. You're just wrong. Truelock works.

I know Truelock works. I know you don't know what you are talking about. What does that have to do with ego or allegiance? Again, broken record time, I post the good and the bad of all the products I use. You continue to try to place this "strictly Pro-Escort" spin on what I post. That's totally false. I've even listed many links to posts of mine, stating problems with the Escort products I own in response to your attacks before, but obviously you choose to ignore them since they don't fit with your false accusations. Your accusations are baseless and inaccurate, just like almost everything else you post.

I actually got my last ticket this way - kinda. I was on a long drive with the wife and kids and they were asleep. So I decided to use an earphone connected to the stereo jack. Pitch black no moon and outta nowhere there was brake lights from him shifting from park to drive. Looked up at the unit and it was going nuts - so pissed. I vowed from that day forward never ever to use a secondary speaker or headphones. Now it is full volume until I get an alert and then I adjust for the noise. BTW I did get it fixed and is my backup.

Doesn't mean anything, really.... :( Look again at all of the GOL's testing, and note how poorly any of the Escort/Bel products performed on POP detection. You're better off turning POP "off," and this will also allow your detector some small savings in terms of "scan-time," which, who knows, may have somehow helped in your current scenario.
Look again at both jimbonzzz's post (#9), as well as MEM-TEK's (#11). Also, there's a distinct possibility that it could be thestaton's scenario, too (#7).
These three posts, combined, pretty much should include all scenarios where the enforcer could have obtained your speed, and your detector having failed - or other actually plausible and viable scenarios (i.e. enforcement device out-of-calibration, enforcer lying, etc.).

Exactly. Although, when a detector misses a quick-trigger, it's not really a "failure" of the detector. We call it "in before the lock!" It's just like when you are listening to a scanner and miss the first couple words of a radio transmission because the scanner had not made it around to that channel yet. Sometimes the beginning radar transmission gets chopped by an RD too, for the same reason. And similarly, if it's just a quick trigger pull, you may miss the entire thing. As Jimbonzz noted, this is a very real possibility here.
But before we start tossing out the "liar" label, you started off this entire encounter bad by lying about knowing you were speeding. You almost guarantee yourself a ticket when you do that. The cop's mind is not made up in the beginning. That's why they ask you if you have a reason for speeding. That's your chance to say something intelligent. You failed and bought the rap. You could have done that with a smile and a good attitude and still gotten some leniency. But when you then started sniping at him, talking about radar detectors and questioning his integrity when, more than likely, he really did radar you, you sealed your fate.
Your RD didn't fail you. And your speeding didn't get you a ticket. Your mouth did. Live and learn.

X2, then he will just put radar on the ticket also so he can say he visually estimated your speed and then zapped you. He will just lie about it in court and then judge will probably believe him.
Running a camera in your car at all times that is filming the road and the speedo together, along with the traffic stop would probably be good evidence in court against crooked cops.

X2, as most of you know I made this mistake myself in Arkansas after being tailed for 2+ miles wondering WHY I was being tailed. I got to my house, entered my house AND THEN the officer got out and yelled at me to get back down here. I asked him what his deal was, he got pissed that I 'should have known' I was being pulled over when he put no lights or siren on. I could care less if he was in my driveway, if he doesn't flag me down, I'm going inside ;) In any event he said I had been speeding, and I pointed to my radar detector and told him he had no proof. So he said, 'oh you want to be a smart a$$ huh? Okay, give me your license and stay right here.' He returns with a ticket for 'careless driving', to which I basically said, 'wow I didn't know it was against the law not to care that an officer is behind you when he doesn't have his lights on.' He said 'yea well, you spun your tires on the gravel into your driveway, that's careless driving and more points then speeding, have a nice day.'
Of course I fought the ticket in court, and got it reduced to a city ordinance, but prolly not the best choice of words I used when dealing with that officer.

IMO, his gun was way out of tune (not working within the MHz it should). I would request paperwork on that gun to see when it was last calibrated/tested.
