Re: Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII Hardwired V1 + LI
that's a nice looking install. how much do you think a shop would charge for a 10% tint strip at the top of your windshield? IMO it would look great and make the V1 install stealth.

Re: Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII Hardwired V1 + LI

+1. That'd be sweet.
I think it would look great on the car, too - not to mention also provide functionality for driving.

Hockey Im dissapointed in you! That ez-pass needs to go on the lower part of your windshield. They look so ugly, because there so noticible. I put mine behind the inspection sticker in the middle of the window. You can't see it. I hate them because there are so noticble.
But everything looks sweet, I love everything but that. But you do need a tint strip, it makes the car look better and you deffinatly need to cover all of your stuff at the top of your windshield up too.
Actually, get a visor strip from fxdecals.com You can get a visor strip of any color, plus any word/characters you want in another color. Since my car is all black I decided to do all accents in carbon fiber. So i got flat black tint strip, with AMG in carbon fiber in the middle. It look so bad a**.
Deffinatly get it, and its only 35.00 i think. Plus I was going to get some racing decals on each side of my door from there.
I reccommend everybody check them out, because they have a hole bunch of different things to make your car look one of a kind. I think everybody would find something they would like. Plus so many different colors and even one off like carbon fiber and crap.
Peace

The sticker is key if you have those available to you. I forget mine is there. I just blow through the sunpass lanes and I cannot even see it from my drivers seat.

Very nice install, and I have a question about the tint suggestion...
I have a top tint strip on my windshield, would this interfere with the V1 or can it detect right through it okay? Also you've got it very high up, do you think it hurts the rear detection any? I was thinking of getting the rearview mirror mount I saw on feEbay.

Tint will only interfere if it's metallic. I have metallic tint all around on my '05, non metallic on my '03 ... difference is very small honestly.
If you have the cash, go for Ceramic tint.

Yes, it very definitely does. I have proven it time and time again. My V1 is mounted on my passenger sun visor, and my rear LIs will be screaming bloody murder while my V1 is silent for hundreds of feet. It doesn't always work that way, but more often than not, it does.

Not a fan at all. Once it is there, it is there, and you aren't likely to make it disappear before the cop gets to your window and sees it. Then, no mercy. If you're lucky, you'll only get the speeding ticket, and he won't tack on an "obstructed drivers view" ticket for grins. It just doesn't give you any real benefit not offered by other, less obtrusive means.

Ah, cool. So I would want to install near the lower edge of the tinted part I guess. In the center there is also kind of a dot-matrix style tint, around the rear-view.

Maybe I will just use it with the lighter cord for a while til I get comfortable with the V1, then settle on a hardwire location.

I did away with my mirror mount as it severely obstructed my view of the front right. Created a serious blind spot.

Re: Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII Hardwired V1 + LI
With the V1 being high up it actually improves rear detection since the rear antenna now has clear sight line back thru the car since it is over the seats

That's the theory. However, in actual practice, that only bears out past 500 feet. At around 500 feet and below, the roof line blocks out rear laser. And since most rear shots are close distance from on-ramps and overpasses, it's not a good thing.
Of course, it's a moot point if you have a jammer. For that matter, it's a moot point if you don't have a jammer. You'll know about the laser when the blue lights come on behind you.
