I have a 9500i and want to buy the 9500xi. Worth it?
Hello,
I currently own a 9500i and just saw the 9500ix last night and got all excited over it. I am so close to ordering it from the Escort's website, but the $499 got me thinking.
I got the 9500i for $350 because of a friend's employee discount, but sharper image closed down so i can't get the same discount anymore.
I haven't really read any reviews about the ix, so here i am asking for all your guys' opinions to help me decide if should go for the new xi or no?
Thank you

Perhaps not for the full price, but why don't you send in your 9500i to Escort? It costs $129 to update it to a 9500ix. That's what I did.

+1. Seems like it would make more sense to just get your 9500i updated to a 9500ix.

Or...... or ... why don't sell my escort 9500i and get the ix?
huh?

Sure, that's definitely an option too. Whatever is the least cost/effort for you.

Do they change the top piece where it says 9500i to 9500ix?
or they just update the firmware on it?

The top piece is changed. It will say, "9500ix."

Like others said, better off sending it in for the upgrade, chances are you will only get about 350 for it, like what you paid. So take 350 plus 130 and that is 500 anyway.

I would look and see if where you live even has RLC and speed traps. I haven't seen any proof of better range i vs. ix. I was also considering replacing my 9500i with the ix but there are only 3 RLC's in Austin and like 3 speed traps. All in areas where I never travel.

Re: I have a 9500i and want to buy the 9500xi. Worth it?
I was thinkin about the update to a 9500ix from a 9500i red but they said it would be still red that's the only way to get a red 9500ix
id pay the 130 to update it they would make it blue:confused:

While it's true that the Red light/Speed Camera database is one of the main reasons for upgrading, the Auto-Learn function is another and is not available in the 9500i.

Yes, it stays red. If you want blue, then you have to sell and buy.

Shoot... I only want the red one. It is less distracting and goes with my interior and does look like Police blue lights. I will just be sending mine in. I cannot believe the do not offer the 9500ci in red. Why did they stop making stuff in red?

Re: I have a 9500i and want to buy the 9500xi. Worth it?
Yeah i do live in a RLC area. There are many everywhere, and whats shocking is they put it and i have been driving so many years and have never noticed. Luckily i never ran a light and got a ticket in the mail. But when i noticed them i was like oh god, what if i had done it.
So yeah the ix update or the new ix will def. a big plus for me.
Thank you

X2. The ix has a few more features that are nice too.
When you send in the 9500I to be upgraded to an ix they do allot too it, its almost like getting a new unit.

Re: I have a 9500i and want to buy the 9500xi. Worth it?
Alright I am about to get it, but i am confused about the various direct wires.
Can somebody explain, please.
Straight SmartCord
Direct Wire SmartCord
Direct Wire Cord
What are the differences?
And how do you install them? Where do i connect the power on the Direct wire cord or the direct wire smart cord?
Explain the differences please.

Re: I have a 9500i and want to buy the 9500xi. Worth it?
Is it worth to get the 1 year LDS = $20, 3 year LDS = $30, or 3 year LDS + 3year ESP = $50?

Re: I have a 9500i and want to buy the 9500xi. Worth it?
Straight SmartCord: regular CIG with straight wire, easy install and has a mute button.

Direct Wire SmartCord: custom install/stealthy and has a mute button.

Direct Wire Cord: cheapest custom install.

All but the first one needs to be wired directly into your fuse box.

The second one, where would you put the mute button thingy?

Which one should i get?

Re: I have a 9500i and want to buy the 9500xi. Worth it?
If this is the primary feature you like about the ix get 3year LDS/ESP = $50 package. If not, like my self, i would do it as needed every 2 years or so.
As for install: read my sticky thread, my install is in there, plus allot of info you will need:

Re: I have a 9500i and want to buy the 9500xi. Worth it?
I had upgraded from 9500i to 9500ix, since the 9500i is still on warranty, less than a year. i sent it for repair and in the process i asked them to just upgrade to ix. they said it'll be $129 but i was able to convince them to pay $89 since I have extended warranty under sharper image. the customer support was very good so he just charged me $89. you can only get an upgrade for $89 if you bought and has extended warranty from escort online store.
i only sent the main unit and when they sent it back , it was in a retail box with all accessories included, wow! imagine, 1 smart cord is already $30, and i have extra windshield clip and suction caps... sweeettt...
i live in the bay area and there's a lot of RLC, SC, and ST here...
