Great news for Whistler buyers !!
This was in Roy's blog in case you missed it.
I had the opportunity to have lunch with Mike Batton a lead Whistler engineer. I couldn’t coax Mike to appear on camera as he related that he was developing a new radar detector that he felt would “blow me away” and if he started talking he wouldn’t be able to stop. However he did promise me that he would get with me just prior to its release in the next few months.
..........................
I can't wait ! I'm a hoping a new Pro series or a high end remote unit to compete with Bel/Escort :D

That's great to hear...I can't wait to see what it is and you can be for sure that I will pre-order one whenever it is released.

Re: Great news for Whistler buyers !!
This year is going to rock. Last year I thought was a really good year for RD's, we saw all kinds of features I never thought the RD manufacturers would really jump in on like GPS. Can't wait to see this year's improvements.

Re: Great news for Whistler buyers !!
AWESOME news I can not wait to see what Mike B. and team have up their sleeves

Re: Great news for Whistler buyers !!
Neat! It'll be good for sure :)

Re: Great news for Whistler buyers !!
I am also very interested!

Re: Great news for Whistler buyers !!
hmm now maybe I should wait with buying a 695. I hope this is a remote system
-
Re: Great news for Whistler buyers !!
Let's throw in some guesses:
Arrows: virtually impossible due to patents
GPS lockout: extremely unlikely due to patents
GPS camera database: likely, especially since whistler manufactures GPS devices.
Remote: likely, whistler has had some remote devices too. A 695 remote would be a great addition to their line.
Portable (battery powered): maybe. They would have the best performing portable in the market. With a relatively short battery life ;)
Increased sensitivity: unlikely.
This is the make and break for me as I'm not in the market for a remote. If I were, I'd jump on a 695 remote.
Their platform/performance upgrade cycle has been pretty slow (same or worse for belscort/valentine). Considering the new whistler platform (pro78/xtr690) has been around for a short while, and has already been tweaked (rev.c/xtr695), I would not expect an upgrade here. Mike has been with Whistler for many many years, so it's not like he is a new addition to the whistler team.
That said, IF they reach M4 level sensitivity in a windshield mount, (considering their industry leading response times) I would be dumping my x50 :D

I agree. My vote is for a remote with a GPS camera database with the sensitivity of the 695.

:D
The original directional/arrows patents have to expire at some point. Patents are usually applied for years before the products hit the market, so it could be sooner rather than later. The question is, is it worth the effort and expense to do the arrows when there are other things like GPS that you could be spending money on?
GPS lockout - Probably there are workarounds. I'm guessing that marking locations has been around in GPS technology for a long time, so marking locations probably goes beyond radar detection. Maybe just skip the autolearn and incorporate lockout into some automute function if nothing else, where you get maybe a single beep and a msg that a locked out location has been reached.
Increased sensitivity - this is important IMO. if Whistler is going to be charging more for a detector, they'll need to make sure they have sensitivity equal to the other guys, otherwise it'll always be "it's a good detector for the money...but".

Re: Great news for Whistler buyers !!
how about a gps unit that detects radar and based on signal strength conveys that position on the gps screen and also alerts to redlight cameras. also has a database with all cvs/walgreens/walmarts/targets to eliminate false alerts
or even nicer would be using police technology to identify their gps signals and put them on a gps

Re: Great news for Whistler buyers !!
Hmmm.... I am hoping for a remote unit with features in the XTR-695 with increased sensativity, and maybe GPS capabilities?
It would be even cooler if it was specter IV immune, and maybe they could work around dual antennas by having you buy each unit seperatley, but can interlink?
Just some ideas... :D
Cant wait to see what Whistler brings us!

Re: Great news for Whistler buyers !!
Michael B and Whistler have done a lot to offer great products at "affordable" prices.:)

I wonder where you got that idea?

At any rate... I hope Whistler knocks it out of the ballpark (in prosaic terms)... they have been up-and-coming for awhile.
Do I think they will rival the best of Belscort/VR? Nope... but will their prices beat Belscort/VR... yup.
Basically for me to go Whistler (which would involve its own hardwire and everything), they would have to do something unbelievable in the RD world... something you can't explain until you try. I don't think its going to happen folks, BUT I HOPE it does... cause I don't want to have to buy the ci...

They are constantly bringing up their game, thats for sure!

Re: Great news for Whistler buyers !!
If it blows my XTR-695 out of the water I'm going to be insanely jealous. :D

Re: Great news for Whistler buyers !!

Why? Just buy the new one if its that good? I would assume Whistler is still going to stay budget-oriented.

That is what Mike B wants everyone to think :D He always pulls something out of his sleeve and goes above and beyond. His idea of KA-RISD was brilliant and went around Belscorts patent and First for Laser pulses and color changing screen for band id. This made the XTR 695 a hot seller cause it "caught the eye"of customers with superb performance at a great price. Whistler will always be under-rated and superb in the real world.

Re: Great news for Whistler buyers !!

Well I hope he stays budget oriented, because if not I will just go Belscort, unless this RD beats their high-end units by a fair margin.
If the this rumored Whistler does come out: AND it is more sensitive then the V1 (ie: Remote mount), I can't believe the commotion that would cause. Not only would 2-RD's be more sensitive (The Belscort remotes which by all accounts so far trounce the V1), a third Whistler unit would be. Along with the high-end Belscort dashmounts which virtually 'trade-punches' with the V1 as far as sensitivity goes across the bands.
Alas: The odds of that are (I would say) 100-to-1.

In your opinion, which bands would you say the ix out performs the V1, or trades punches?

Re: Great news for Whistler buyers !!
Maybe Whistler is going to resurrect the Spectrum line of detectors  Those things falsed worse than the Valentines

I'd say on the K and Ka bands it holds its own with the V1. X band is a different matter; the V1 has always been in a league of its own there. Also, laser. The V1 picks up scatter better than any detector, although the ix is supposed to be improved in that area.
We'll know for sure how the ix stacks up with the V1 when GOL does their tests.

I would have to disagree with you at least on K band.
I tested both the V1 and iX one at a time on a K band drone, and the V1 alerted at 1.1 miles and the iX was at .08 miles. Now I don't know if that would make much difference with a LEO running IO, but the V1 alerted sooner.

1.1 vs 0.08? Something's not right here. My V1 is more sensitive on every band than my 9500ix, but not by a factor of 13. I'd say my 9500ix is closest to my V1 on 34.7Ka, furthest on X.

Re: Great news for Whistler buyers !!
I'm guessing that wegrowhair meant to type 0.8 miles?

Yes, sorry about that.

Re: Great news for Whistler buyers !!
It may depend on the terrain, but I'm getting them going of virtually at the same distance. But I did go and review the GOL 2007 test and it did bear out what webgrow said.

So do I. They used to be the company to beat but then everyone just passed them by. Hopefully they're tired of drawing the short straw and now they are back on their game. Whistler is the only company that has user switchable display color and currently is the only company that does a remote the right way, meaning, it's a pure detector with all of the electronics up front, and the display inside and they don't force you to buy a sub-par laser shifter with the deal and then charge you 1600.00. I'm hoping that I don't have to buy a 9500ci and that Whistler comes up with something really strong :)

Found this information about Whistlers 2009 lineup of detectors.

Re: Great news for Whistler buyers !!
Those new Whistler models look really nice in terms of appearance and new features. I'd say that when the new XTR-690 SE comes out, it and the Bel Vector V940 will be the best two "bangs for the buck" radar detectors available.

I agree. Can't wait to see their new high-end remote models(s) :)

Re: Great news for Whistler buyers !!
The models look very promising. I'd expect nothing less from Whistler, however, why have a Ka Max mode? Wouldn't we always want better Ka band range regardless? Why not just outright increase the sensitivity? Does any radar guru want to chime in and answer this question? There has to be a valid reason.

I would hope that the Whistler would have better filtering than the Bel V940, although the Vector line does have good sensitivity.
