Got pulled over with my rx65
Ok im driving a junky 96 taures going 58 in a 45 and all of a sudden my k band goes full and I get pulled over. The cop was sitting in like a driveway alongside the road i was driving. How did this happen? Did I do something wrong? This is the first time ive been pulled over with this radar detector and ive had it about a year now. I got it mounted about 10 inches from the very top of the windshield (me measuring from the outside) and about 4-5 inches from the tink.

This is called I/O(instant on). When a LEO is diligent enough to use I/O, his goal is to beat RD users, in this case successful. If a LEO puts his radar in hold mode, the radar unit is effectively off, meaning there is no radar to detect. Then he turns it on to read the speed of his target, in this case you.
Re: Got pulled over with my rx65
anyway to stop being owned by this or im just screwed when they do this? is I/O frequently used enough to basically make my rd worthless?

Something you just have to live with. Even the best RDs and there users can be taken down by instant-on when done effectively.

The way to beat I/O is to use a rabbit, which means using someone going your speed as a shield. Keeping this person out in front of you at a safe distance, lets them get tagged instead of you. You get the radar alert when they get tagged, then slow down and watch that person get the citation.
Also, sometimes you can pick up a piece of the LEO using his radar against someone else a ways up. So, basically, you get a blip of radar, then slow down. When it gets to be your turn, you're at the PSL. No problem.
Here's a video of me catching a piece of I/O, then slowing down before I get totally tagged by I/O Stalker Ka band. If I hadn't picked up a piece of the CHP's radar before hand, I would have been smoked.

Re: Got pulled over with my rx65
Staying aware of your surroundings, being alert and looking for the tell-tale signs (brake lights as cars pass a location ahead of you for no apparent reason, entrance ramps to highways, approaching a hill) are your best defenses. Use a rabbit as others have said so you can let your detector sniff out the I/O shot they take ahead of you.
LEO's love overpasses too, most prey never think to look up for danger.
Re: Got pulled over with my rx65
Find a rabbit if there's none, then don't speed...
Re: Got pulled over with my rx65
thanks everyone, a little off topic but do you think i should just leave it on autoscan or switch to city or highway based on where im driving?

I also run in highway - I find that even in highway my X50 is quite quiet
