Re: 9500ci Owned !!! by speed board
That was weird, good question for someone here to answer. Unless of course you think it may have been one of those sneaky I/O speed signs. :D
-
Re: 9500ci Owned !!! by speed board
What's the frequency of that sign? What's your speed? Is the satellite icon spinning?
-
Re: 9500ci Owned !!! by speed board
I think the sign showed 41 or 46, so about 25 MPH or so if the sign was correct.
-
Re: 9500ci Owned !!! by speed board
not sure about the frequency .... i can go back and check again
GPS thing not sure
but i go by that all time and only get hit when I'm under it

Re: 9500ci Owned !!! by speed board
yaa it was 45 and the limit is 50
i know its there so i go extra slow
plus the LEO use that as a trap there
so its not just a useless board unfortunately :(
lets just say i had a run in with them there last year
and when i say run in i ran for it lol :D

Re: 9500ci Owned !!! by speed board
They got some sort of Eddy current right before the signs in Canada?
-
Re: 9500ci Owned !!! by speed board
Eddy ???
guys if you want more pics of the board i can go back and take lots
but i want to know why it hits you as you pass it

Re: 9500ci Owned !!! by speed board
In the US they are used to switch traffic lights in the presence of a car.
They are just wires in the ground and when you drive over them the magnetic field is changed and hence the voltage to the traffic light controller.
-
Re: 9500ci Owned !!! by speed board
ahhh
well I'm not sure if thats the case here
but then again i don't know why i cant beat a stupid board with a $1600 unit
-
Re: 9500ci Owned !!! by speed board
Even if it was forward facing, you would have something reflected off the cars after the sign, but if it was 'rear-facing' you would have 'felt' something from the cars in front of you.
Its got to be something to do with that frequency.

WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
here is a video of my 9500ix vs speed sign K band
hilly road that wasn't str8 and still gave me a good mile and a half about I have to go back and measure to see how far it really is but

it was clocking me way before i got to it
ill have to do a better vid tomorrow
with pics of the board

Re: 9500ci Owned !!! by speed board
Wondering if it was an install problem, I looked over your past threads and you have had some very weird experiences with the ci, haven't you?
-
Re: 9500ci Owned !!! by speed board
Definitely do a run with the 9500ci in tech mode. The K band frequency of the speed sign may be right on the edge of K band's nominal bandwidth. Or the K band gun may have fluctuating voltage going to it due to corroded connections. This could cause its frequency to drift. Needless to say, the 9500ci won't be able to show any high frequency (in time) drift, but that could cause the 9500ci to ignore the erratic K band frequency signal until the signal is so strong that it essentially saturates the antenna and causes an alert.

Re: 9500ci Owned !!! by speed board
well i only have a problem with this board
thank god i catch all the LEOs with my red beast :p

Re: 9500ci Owned !!! by speed board
well ill be there like nerds on site with my laptop posting while taking pics :D
i hope we get to the bottom of this board
i will also pack my new DSLR for hi res pics ;)

You have never used a Valentine One have you? You got your first alert and 4 seconds later it was a full alert tone for almost 1 minute like you had a radar gun mounted on your hood and pointed at you. Your Escort did its job by detecting well but as a V1 user, I wouldn't have any clue where the source was by just listening to the sound of the alert.
-
Re: 9500ci Owned !!! by speed board
Again, JAZZY methodically molds and shapes the thread, as a potter does clay, to prove the V1 is superior to the 9500ix.
And think we started out with a 9500ci...

My bad, I thought this thread has something to do with how Escort products alert abruptly to sources of radar with a non-linear ramp-up so as to make the user dump in their pants.;)

Re: 9500ci Owned !!! by speed board
maybe ur rite V1 is better but its not stealth like Bel or Escort ;)
and where i come from the V1 would get reposed in my first 10 min of driving

No I never plan to use something that go off for no reason I never said it told me where it was at either the road was hilly and not str8 pretty sure a v1 would of done the same thing look at the road

Nice car, don't you just love the passing speed once you hit 3rd gear in the Mazdaspeed 3.

I understand that you are feeling defensive because your detector shoots its load too early but don't be a hater when the V1 has a smooth orgasmic alert with a nice gradual rise that ends with a peak that will make you say AHHHHH.

so much data, so little information.
Let's start with the behaviour of OTHER detectors. From your collection, I'm SURE you have experimented; establishing more of a base-line. I imagine they reacted similarly.
Careful review of footage shows a Pole Mounted gizmo 30-50ft ahead of you, just as the alert starts. I don't know if they are related, but if not, need to be eliminated
A little [Google]perusing yielded these seemingly related goodies:
SPEED MONITORING WITH INDUCTIVE-LOOP AND OTHER POINT SENSORS
Chapter 3, Traffic Detector Handbook: Third Edition--Volume I, FHWA-HRT-06-108 near the top of the page
it's a fairly old concept; but with more modern sensors, speed thresholds can be determined, and that data can be passed on to other equipment.
speaking of an I/O speed sign:
(pardon the verbage, it's copy/paste)
"Speed Display Sign’s radar works in pulse way, the advantages for pulse way are: low radiancy, low power consumption and anti-radar prevention, as well, radar’s susceptivity can be adjusted according to road and vehicle’s situation."
Radar Speed Display Sign DN-SDR2A-1B Products Donartech
Yes, it's a pitiful translation; but demonstrates that these units do exist.

Re: 9500ci Owned !!! by speed board
So it really might have a loop in the ground!
It may only spew RADAR if you are over the PSL. Starting from like 100 feet before the sign, were you ever over the PSL?

if you want to have it go off at every walmart bank and gas store get a v1 theres a reason V1 is about 20% cheaper then a 9500ix:p

I had a similar problem with a single X band door opener at a local grocery store. The door was erratic (you really had to move to make it open), and the X band door opener would cause my V995 to throw a Self Cal error if I powered it up in the store's parking lot or if my V995 just happened to do a self calibration while anywhere near this door opener. I finally figured out that this particular door opener had flaky power connections, and this door opener frequently caused Ka falses on my V995.
Anyway, time went by and I always made sure to turn off my V995 before turning into this grocery store's parking lot. I even did the same with my newly purchased STi, except the final day before I sent my STi to Bel to be flashed with the 33.8 bugfix. Unbeknown to me, during the very two weeks while my STi was at Bel the grocery store replaced all of their X band door openers with nice little K band door openers. Consider my surprise when I thought that my reflashed STi was dead on X band!
So, as you can see, I strongly suspect that the particular speed sign which MPS is dealing with has a radar antenna which is operating improperly, and that this is why MPS's 9500ci doesn't alert to it until its signal strength is strong enough to saturate the antenna so that the antenna can't see its slight but very rapidly and randomly changing K band frequency.
