A little gift came in the mail today...
and that gift was a Laser Interceptor. St. Louisx50 is going to be assisting with the install/testing of my setup, and I'll be keeping this thread updated with the progress of the install/results.
STLx50 and I were thinking about mounting them above the plate to avoid cutting the grill. Thoughts? I can upload better pictures if needed.
Thanks!

Re: A little gift came in the mail today...
Sorry to say it but you might have to cut the grill...

Re: A little gift came in the mail today...
You mean mounting them in the blue?

Can you mount in the green without cutting the grille? The ideal spot would be orange IMO.

Re: A little gift came in the mail today...
There is no room to mount in the green without cutting the grill. I think the blue would end up with crazy PT's now that im actually thinking about it. Orange does look ideal indeed, looks like I'll end up cutting the grill.

Re: A little gift came in the mail today...
Don't want to cut your grill? Just go to Craigslist & buy another grill. Someone is always blinging out a vehicle & selling the stock parts for dirt cheap. Cut it & install the heads. You will be all done but with an uncut grill setting in your garage floor going to waste.

Re: A little gift came in the mail today...
Orange would be the best, please put them in the orange...

Re: A little gift came in the mail today...
go orange for the best JTG. Cutting the grill and installing is not hard at all. don't bother with blue is its too much work. Green is good but orange is the best. I have a diffrent car but its installed in the grill like the orange and it performs great against all guns but truespeed since i have not use that gun yet

Re: A little gift came in the mail today...
Try the green then test them. They may perform very well in the green.
-
Re: A little gift came in the mail today...
I think I am going to go for the orange location just so that I know my plate/headlights are fully protected. I have veiled headlights/fog lights so I'm not too worried but at the same time my lights have some pretty extreme angles on it. Hopefully within the next few days I'll find the time to slap it in and see what kind of results I get with it.
I'll keep things updated.

Re: A little gift came in the mail today...
I'd ask Cliff, but I think the green would be the way to go.

Orange! :)

Re: A little gift came in the mail today...
I also live in St. Louis and have a Laser Intecptor setup. If someone has access to testing locally I would love to join you to check out my setup. I have a second LI coming next week to put on our new Mazda CX-9 so bothy of our cars wil be set. I have one of the newest ones with the jammer timer.

Congrats on you LI hope you enjoy it. Mine has already saved me 4 times.:D

Re: A little gift came in the mail today...
Just a little update here, I pulled up the air dam again on the lancer to see mounting locations. It looks like I will only be able to mount it down low below the plate. Up top there really isn't anywhere to mount it, unless I was to cut the **** out of the grill. It will probably end up being mounted there, between the laser shield and veil I should be alright. I'm getting a HID kit for the car as well so that should help a lot.
and it looks like install/testing day is going to be Friday. I'll be posting an update on how it went sometime on Saturday.

Re: A little gift came in the mail today...
the heads are very small i would just cut the grill and mount flush in there...LI will JTG no problems without the veil and laser shield btw

Re: A little gift came in the mail today...
speedinlancer, you got the regular duel LI's right?
Also, how often do you get hit with laser?

Am I the only one that reads this tittle & thinks this guy got a case of herpes in the mail?:D
Come one dude, cut the grill. They are a dime a dozen on CL.

x2, I have found that grill mounting tends to provide the best protection on most cars.

Re: A little gift came in the mail today...
Sorry for giving the wrong impression here. I mean to say that there is physically no place for the heads to be mounted up top. Behind the upper section of the grill there is nothing for a good 3 inches or so, and I don't have the resources to come up with a custom bracket (nor do I think that given the angles there could be a custom bracket easily made/one that works well). So what I was trying to say is that I think there is about a quarter of an inch that the "chrome" piece sets on that might work as a mounting location for the brackets if I was willing to have a gap in the "chrome" piece. I can clear it up more if that still isn't clear.
So mounting down below the plate is the only realistic option because there is a piece of metal that is part of the front bumper that swings back a good 3-4 inches. Plenty of room to mount the heads, the grill cutting isn't the issue... it's finding a location that would allow it.
We'll see what STLx50 and myself end up coming up with, but as of right now that looks like the best option.
v1user: yes, it is the Li Dual and not very often. I just know that it is going to become more popular in this area along with the fact that I'm going to be doing mostly interstate driving in a couple months and laser is very common there.

huh? please explain.... I didn't think HID made a significant difference at all.

Re: A little gift came in the mail today...
It cuts the PT distance of laser, it's been said quite a few times on this forum.

Okay, fair enough. I just didn't think it would help "a lot". My bad though.

Re: A little gift came in the mail today...
With the LI or any diode based jammers you don't need extras for JTG performance. People should get their setups tested and move up from testing results...
-
Re: A little gift came in the mail today...
9500ier: Yah, I realize how my wording could be confusing. The point I was trying to get accross is that between the veil and the HID light kit the headlights aren't going to be unprotected, so even if I have to mount down low the headlamps should still be good.
speed-dreams: The whole reason why I bought the Li was to be 100% certain of JTG performance. I realize that I should have that level of performance without any aid, but is overkill a bad thing when it comes to lidar? I don't think so. But yah, I totally understand and agree with your point.

Orange would be the ideal location.

Did you even read my last post? Here, I took these pictures a few months ago. Take a look at it and see if you can tell what I mean.

Do you mean directly below the plate, like if you moved the blue location straight down? Better start saving your money for a lawyer. You're gonna get pwn3d.

Boo hoo. Cry me a river. Save the money you're spending on Veil and HID lights and pay for a professional installer to put it in the grille.

You cannot possibly be serious. Who told you that nonsense?

Re: A little gift came in the mail today...
Stealth: See pictures posted above. Do YOU see a plausible mounting location? AGAIN, I DON'T CARE ABOUT CUTTING THE GRILL. Let me say that again, I DON'T CARE ABOUT CUTTING THE GRILL. If you can find me a plausible mounting location from the pictures that I posted then by all means, I will do it in a heart beat. I feel like I'm posting this info and no one is bothering to read my posts here. Come on. Seriously? There is no mounting location without the use of a custom bracket for the ORANGE locations.
HOWEVER there is a mounting location available for the position below the mentioned blue location. By that I mean the 2nd grill on the car, that is down low. There is more then enough room to mount it there.
Let me say this again, Stealthstalker I completly agree that it should be mounted in the orange, however I just don't see how that mounting could be done. Perhaps I'm missing the complete obvious and there is a location to mount there that you all are seeing and I just don't. I'm not throwing that possibility out of the window.
and it has been said several times on this very board that HID lights cutdown the punch through distances of laser, are you really going to tell me that I cannot read and I am just making that up? I already stated previously that my wording wasn't what I was intending when I said "a lot" so really, what do you want from me? Again, it's as if no one is reading what I'm posting.

It has also been said quite a few times on this forum that this effect is very inconsistent, does not occur on all cars, or with all HIDs, and cannot be counted on for any predictable protection. If you're figuring this into your protection equation, that's a recipe for fail.

Precisely why I recommend you take it to a professional installer.

Agree completely. HID beams were completely ineffective against laser on two of my cars. Just flat out made no difference at all. Probably depends more on the design of the headlamp housing.
Professional installers don't make excuses, they produce results.

Re: A little gift came in the mail today...
I understand that, I'm getting the HID's anyway just because I want brighter headlamps then the 09 GTS has. We'll see what STLx50 and I can come up with, I would prefer the orange location just like all of you and if it means taking it to my shop that I've used several times, then so be it.

Any updated pics of the new install?
