Re: Trapster Trusted Groups
Yeah I would be interested in setting one up, don't really know how to, but i'll look into it. Do you have an iphone or blackberry? That is really the only way to report a trap into the database, I put trapster on my GPS and consider it inferior in every aspect to the iphone counterpart.

Thanks Sean, I love Trapster for the Iphone. I have my phone mounted to the left of my steering wheel and drive with it in hybrid mode all the time, it's accuracy in and around Temple, Texas is amazing.

Where I live, in my area, PHOTO RADAR is ILLEGAL, also it's extremely easy to input all the red light cameras into your Garmin unit (have already 125 RLCs in my area).
For traditional radar and laser as well, cops move around all the time, how can TRAPSTER warn me that for instance tomorrow morning one traffic team in my area is gonna do laser at one particular (VERY EXACT) GPS location?
Is Trapster working along with the police so they, the traffic cops, send an instant message to the Trapster team or database BEFORE they head out for the next speed trap located at the xxxxxxx GPS location?
Fair questions, right?
PS Read the info on your website,
"How does Trapster work?
When you see a trap, report it by pressing a button on your phone, or calling a toll free number. Other user's phones will alert them as they approach the trap. Trapster learns the credibility of traps based on how many users agree. It also learns the credibility of each user, over time."
very interesting and I guess useful technology BUT... for people in areas where is ILEGAL to operate a handheld device (only hands-free kit is acceptable), plus extremely dangerous to dial a phone number while driving, also lots of modern phones like my Motorola i730 with a flip-flop cover, never ever operate my phone while driving, so, in all these particular cases, how can somebody on the road send out a speed trap without getting in a freaking car crash by looking to his phone instead of the road ahead?
And for dialing that toll-free number: people don't even bother flashing their lights to warn the upcoming traffic about a speed trap in front of them, they are too busy within their freaking inner space, and we expect them to p/u the phone and DIAL a number for a speed trap? Not in my world!!!

Never ever flash your lights to warn a vehicle of a police officer you left behind. My cousin did it and so happened to have warned a person who had a felony warrant and was returning home. The LEO he passed was actually a sherriff, waiting for this guy to turn into his driveway. Three sherriffs that were tailing the felon saw my cousin do this. One pulled off the tail and arrested my cousin for obstruction of justice, my straight laced cousin was given a year probation and a $1000 fine. If people don't are driving unprotected, that is their fault.

I guess I wasn't too clear, flash your lights anytime you see a SPEED TRAP only, so a stationary cruiser doing radar or laser, to warn the oncoming traffic about that particular speed trap, in my area cops are NOT allowed to pull you over for doing this but no idea about other jurisdictions:
CTV Toronto - Driver upset after ticketed for flashing headlights - CTV News, Shows and Sports -- Canadian Television
Sgt. Brian Bowman isn't sure why the officer laid the charge because the act isn't illegal.
"There is no law against warning about police operating a radar location," he told CTV Toronto.

Nice find on the article, I think it was just my cousin's situation, as long as you don't warn someone who the cops are waiting on, you should be fine. I still don't do it though.

I've did something like your cousin with a different result. I wouldn't flash either.

I agree. Trapster on the GPS has VERY limited capabilities especially since it does not receive live coverage.
Unfortunately, I do not have a Iphone or a blackberry. Perhaps I shall just stick to good "old" countermeasures. Sigh, the more I think about it, the more it dawns that the GPS was an "impulse buy" on my part.
Re: Trapster Trusted Groups
I have to agree with freerunner. If they don't have countermeasures and don't take the hint from the red Corvette dropping 20+ MPH in a few seconds then they deserve a ticket in my mind.

We are working on the GPS files now, it is one heck of a task. To get the most recent traps, you would have to download the file everyday... stay tuned to trapster.com for the update.
