4 km alert-Bel Sti Driver sensitivity
Was driving north of town yesterday and got a K band alert. Reasonably steady alert until i saw the cop on other side of the road-had his light going and someone pulled over. Distance from first alert to where cop was, was 4 km. Amazing detector!!!
Re: 4 km alert-Bel Sti Driver sensitivity
Holy smokes... You must have some awfully flat roads! 4km is crazy! I can't wait to get my STI-R installed and see what it can do :)
Re: 4 km alert-Bel Sti Driver sensitivity
yeah, no stores or other interference around. the odd hill where i might loose the chirp for about 10 seconds or so but it would come right back.

Where the hell is that, you know you gotta give out the MAJOR intersection related to 401 (Taunton Rd runs east-west) also I guess you're talking about Durham Police that's using... Ka 35.5 or 34.7 in no way anything K!
You also gotta give out the EXACT description of the police cruiser, marked or stealth, car model and color, 10-4 ?
This is a model of perfect thread I would like to see from everybody when posting new info:

Re: 4 km alert-Bel Sti Driver sensitivity
i get 4 km range k band on a regular basis over here in northern ontario
Re: 4 km alert-Bel Sti Driver sensitivity
I got 3mi on mine a few months ago. Some of the OPP moving K can be picked up a long way off.
Beware though. The OPP are onto the STi and the know their Spectre's can't pick them up, so they're shooting radar from behind again to see if you step on your brakes.

If you live near North Pole, I guess nobody would disagree with you!
That's when you prefer not to disclose the location of your area, people start making fun of such comments;)
Who is patrolling your area, OPP or some local police?

That's a dick move.
I got a 1.3 mile Ka band alert todayin VA.
The best I've experienced thus far from my STi.
Then again I've only owned it for a week now.

Yes was a marked Durham Police Cruiser. As far as Band goes, my STi only says K or X and does not give me ka 35.5 or 34.7. It's only about 6 weeks old. Closest major intersection would be Hwy 57 and Taunton Road.

If you use the tech display on your STi, it will show you the exact frequency the LEO is using.

As djrams80 told you, you MUST turn on the tech mode, personally I've been running my STI in the tech mode since the very moment I got it, Sept '06, that's the only way you will learn the guns and their freqs your local police and any other police of the jurisdiction you are driving thru is using!!! Extremely important!!!
Or, maybe you have not yet "met" a police cruiser that runs Ka, but that's so easy to fix this:D drive down on DVP or Lakeshore Blvd or Eglinton E or Lawrence E and other major roads in Toronto, best is during non-rush hours, and Ka33.8 everywhere!
But again make sure Ka is on, obviously K and Laser as well, you do NOT need X in our area, maybe in some remote areas in US, but not in Ontario or at least not anywhere from Windsor to Quebec border and north to at least Huntsville area.
Drive safely!

Re: 4 km alert-Bel Sti Driver sensitivity
I got a 4 km plus alert last week, mobile K approaching, roof mount antenna, flat open road, clear weather, alerted all the way.
Also had one amazing 90 degree Ka alert at a T intersection but put it down to reflection of some signage directly in front of me and that was at 1.5 km.
The Sti is pure WIN.

now set to tech mode with djrams help. will be interesting to keep track of what's out there. Funny, was just pulling out of my Court today before setting up tech mode facing direct north and cop in an umarked about 3-400 yards away targeting cars going east-west and I get a strong k band alert. Of course my first reaction is what the #$^%, where is he and sure enough look to the west and there he is. I guess this is what you call off-axis?

You're correct, OPP on K radar units only but if you ever adventure yourself to the epicenter of the freaking liberal Canada, that's Toronto (where I live), Ka 33.8 on all Toronto Police cruisers...
Drive safely.
