Can I switch off X band in Phoenix, St Louis and Atlanta?
I've never encountered X band in Atlanta. In fact, I've turned it off. Almost all you get is laser and Ka band with some counties/cities still using K band.
I've never seen X band in the Atlanta metro area, it's 95% laser.
The only x-band in STL is shot by me.:D
90% Ka 5% laser and 5%k band
I have not come across X Band in Phoenix. I shut mine off and I regularly travel to Phoenix.
Great. Thanks a lot. x-band off. I'm in St Louis now, Phoenix Mon-weds, Atlanta Thursday, and then back to home sweet home in Miami.
V1 user - I am astonished by the amount of Ka going on in STL. I barely drive 5 minutes and have an encounter. When i got here, there was a copper sitting in the hotel parking lot with Ka CO. A lot of the Ka seems to be CO here.
[quote=batman75;632439]Ok, Clayton I believe C/O Ka. Be careful on Forest Park AVE for RLC's and QT inside the park.
Town and Country-270, 40 and 141 AKA Laser Ally- 2 out of 3 of my laser hits have been here. Also, this is the only place I have seen K-band in STL from the white charger. This is a very upscale place that has all the toys. (they pace too). I used to go to school here and had some close calls with laser. They write a lot of DWI's (I listen to them on the scanner)
St. Charles CO uses a lot of I/O. MO-HP and STL-county like the to hide on both sides of the Blanchette Bridge on 70. I'm 20 mins west of St. Charles City.
Watch out, some of the smaller towns on the Western side of Illinois I have heard still may have X band radar? Don't think for one minute those smaller towns don't have an old X band radar gun that gets dusted from the shelf every 3-4 weeks and gets used because this does happen. Actually it's smart thinking on the LEO to do this knowing many turn x band off.:D Just be careful and keep a close eye on things.
Thanks all. I just wrapped up the St Louis leg, and am off to Phoenix. Looking forward to testing out the 9500ix's speed camera feature, and also using my learning's from WRX Stimuli's guide to spotting camera vans.
After all the preaching I gave you about Ka, I got hit with laser for the 1st time since March last night. It was in Clayton BTW.:D Good luck in Phoenix and Atlanta
As noted by others, a lot of laser in and around Atlanta. No x-band, but my experience is Ga. Patrol runs KA mainly, a lot of CO from what I've seen. The local LEOs outside the city still use a lot of K-band including I-O, so you have to be careful and don't automatically assume you're getting hits from door openers etc.
I've encountered a few local LEOs shooting laser in rural areas on the Interstates, but it's pretty rare compared to radar.
Most of the county PDs immediately surrounding Atlanta are using Ka (save DeKalb county, which doesn't even own much radar), further you go out the more K band becomes prevelant. Most towns are equipped with K band, with maybe 1-2 Ka units in their traffic enforcement vehicles.
That said, most of the towns/counties closer in to town that have laser typically use that instead of radar, even though there are some towns/counties have almost every patrol car equipped with radar. Go figure.
I had a K-band I/O save with the 9500ix last night. I was going east on Camelback between Scottsdale Road and the Biltmore, and picked up K-band. It was a very dark unlit area. The 9500ix started dishing out warnings I want to say 40 seconds-ish ahead of the copper location. Sure enough a copper was on a side road, blipping faster cars.
Good save. The 9500ix seems to do well on k-band. I once got a hit on a speed sign at 3.4 miles and again the next day on the same sign at 3.2 miles. Of course it was on a mostly level road that was very straight, not your typical driving conditions.
Keep up the reports.
