I am starting to wonder if the poor performance I got from my RX 65 was a result of it being from Ebay? Some day I would like to see someone do some side by side tests of 2 RX 65s. One from Roy and one from Ebay. Sound dumb? I don't think so.......
People seem to love them.....maybe it was I got screwed......

Did you buy it supposedly "new" or was it definitely used?
Also people have reportedly replaced the 'guts' of the detector with a lower model detector...and this could also be the case with the ebayer.
(This is not my original idea nor am I claiming it as one)....but many people on this site have said it before and its very possibly (however unlikely) this could be what happened.
It was new. Still wrapped in plastic etc. Warranty card etc inside.Quote:

I asked a computer/technology engineer (I went to HS with...a friend of mine)....he said he would have no problem creating any set of false information to be able to be displayed across the screen for pretty cheap he said....remember its just a simple set of electronic components.
Overall this was his whole idea:
In summary (he got a little to technical for me): Anyone with knowledge into the matter could do it he said for a small price, and have it be an effective scam, however most people he said could not fabricate anything to that extent, so the odds are very unlikely that anyone actually did that. So I guess it was not gutted (in all odds).
It is highly likely that you got a bad one. I saw your last thread where you and another poster got your RX65's from the same Ebay vendor. I don't think it was a coincidence that both of you questioned the performance of your RX65's for that reason alone. Also, it would not be terribly difficult to change the readouts of the diplays.Quote:

Have you ever tried the x50, if you ever sell your 65 you should try the x50 I have tried em' all and love it!
Funny story about identical model side-by-side comparisons... I was going on a drive with my buddy in his Mazda6 (Wagon...ugly, but still pretty comfy) bored as I was I decided to take my X50 Blue out of my car and test it next to his X50 Red, both bought from the same place (Best Buy) and both Rev.5 models.
Observation #1:
X50 Blue gave warnings a little bit sooner than the Red... whenever the two werent setting off POP alerts on the other one sitting right next to it... I guess the X50s leaked a little and set eachother off all the time.
Conclusion:
X50 Blue seems to either respond faster to threats and/or have a greater range than the X50 Red

Observation #2:
When one was mounted mid-windshield and the other was mounted right under the rearview the one higher gave better range on the K and Ka but seemed slower at picking up the X (I guess it could've been the angle from the radar source)... BUT when we crossed some fire trucks on the inside roads going no more than 20 (Were in the middle of my University surrounded by crazy Jaywalkers :twisted: ) the low mounted one (the RED at that point) gave a full LASER warning the BLUE by the rearview didn't
Conclusion:
Higher is better for RADAR........But SUX for LIDAR

Observation #3:
On the highway (When both were mounted mid windshield next to eachother) the RED seemed to go off more often, most times it got X band alerts and lost them while the BLUE never even displayed them
Conclusion:
I guess either the RED has longer range...or... the BLUE had a 'smarter' DSP and/or better filtering capabilities

I have had well over a dozen of each (red's & blues) mounted on my windshield & even though the red's and blue's are exactly the same I have noticed that with either one there sometimes is a noticeable difference in performance more than likely the radar tech's fault.Quote:

In New Zealand, it has been reported that counterfeit RX65 units have been showing up from China and being sold on the NZ version of EBay.
