Valentine, beltronics, or passport
ok guys.
i am looking for a new radar detector. I am looking for distance more so, i dont really care about the fancyness.. we own a passport 8500, but now looking for a new one for the other vehicle.
i was looking at the passport 9500 or redline. , the Valentine 1, or a beltronics.
what is the best one for distance and accuracy?

Re: Valentine, beltronics, or passport
First off, do you drive mostly on the highway or in the city?
-
Re: Valentine, beltronics, or passport
its mostly city, some highway.

Re: Valentine, beltronics, or passport
Try doing a little research and reading in old post. All of those detectors are well covered in here.

I'd go with the 9500ix then. The V1 or Redline would probably drive you crazy in the city because of all the false alerts. Where are you located?

Re: Valentine, beltronics, or passport
If you are looking for distance, get the Redline.

Re: Valentine, beltronics, or passport
is there a rating on distance for them?
are they all pretty much the same?

Re: Valentine, beltronics, or passport
For the high-end windshield mounted RDs, here's how they rate for distance:
1. Escort RedLine
2. V1
3. Bel STi
4. Escort 9500ix

I'm still waiting for GOL before I decide on that one ;)
If your from Canada you might want to look into one of the undetectable M3 antennas (STi, STi-R, Redline, 9500ci) if you do mostly city driving I'd suggest the 9500ci since it has the whole gps/lockout thing.

Re: Valentine, beltronics, or passport
It's a hard choice.
V1 Has arrows, good sensitivity, concealed display, best laser and POP detection, but old style volume knob, it's hard to program, does not show the frequency, it's a bit chatty.
STI/Redline have easy to read display, are easy to reprogram, have better filtering (STI at least), more elegant volume setting.
9500ix GPS can be useful in town.

Re: Valentine, beltronics, or passport
Well:
- 9500 is nice and quiet in the city, you won't really notice a range increase though over your 8500.
- The Beltronics version is the GX65, it's essentially identical but without AutoLearn.
- V1 is nice and chatty with excellent range. Those arrows really help out in a city environment.
- Redline, V1 without the arrows.
In the end, what do you prefer - great range and chatty or reasonable range and quiet?

Those two RDs were designed for the US market. Both of those companies are in Cincinnati, OH.

British Columbia - Canada (thanks HaZedXxX)
Squamish RCMP: K-band (Maybe Ka), Ultralyte, Possible PL III, Stalker LZ1,Marked crown vics, possible marked camaro (updated 08/01/2009)
West Vancouver: Ultralyte, Stalker LZ1, Unmarked black dodge charger, unmarked grey crown vic, several marked black chevy tahoes, several black ford explorers, a full fleet of marked crown vics. (updated 08/01/2009)
It looks like you have a mix of radar/laser in your area. Based on reviews and tests, I would consider the Redline, Passport 9500 or V1. I use V1 and it does alert on city streets but that is the price for sensitivity. They are all priced in the same price range so that is not an issue. I would also consider some laser prevention devices on your vehicle.

Re: Valentine, beltronics, or passport
yes we do have alot of laser now.
i just want the best thing for the buck. i dont mind the sensitivity i would rather be safe than sorry

Re: Valentine, beltronics, or passport
OP: If you're dealing with RDD's in your area, the V1 is out of the race.
