New Car, What to Buy?
I am seriously starting to look at new cars again.
The two tops on my list are the Corvette Z06 (with the Z07 package) and ZR1.
My criteria is that it has to be a true sports car and has to be incredibly fast. My budget is $150K max. What other cars should I be looking at in this price range?
-
Re: New Car, What to Buy?
Used Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale or Used Lamborghini Gallardo.
If your looking at new a Porsche 911 GT3 is always a nice choice or the GT3 RS is still under 150K

Re: New Car, What to Buy?
I'd say this meets your criteria. ;)
...or this

Re: New Car, What to Buy?
Buy a Subaru WRX STI and build the hell out of it. You'll have the best handling car for $150k
But that's fairly unrealistic. Nissan GTR?
-
Re: New Car, What to Buy?
I'm going to look at a few different ones. I've been thinking Porsche as well as the Vettes. Nothing with a back seat though, so the Mercedes is out!
I'm probably going to go with the Vette just want to make sure I don't miss out on something I really should have looked at.

Re: New Car, What to Buy?
Get one of the Corvettes and then have a TVS supercharger professionally installed.... then say "good-bye" to any Porsche stupid enough to try. :D After having your Vette I think you're going to be disappointed with the "kick" a turbo'd car gives you no matter how quick it is. Nothing quite like spinning the tires at 60 mph (got a friend who can do that easily in Cobra Terminator with a KB blower). Bang for the buck nothing can touch a Vette given the sports car criteria you're looking for. Even the snobs on Top Gear love the Vette and they hate American cars.

That's with just 7.5lbs of boost. Take it higher and OMG.

I was thinking Z06 (7.0L) and then having Lingenfelter or Callaway do some upgrades. We are talking 650+ HP and 600+ ft-lbs of torque!!!

You're heading in the right direction there! That's RWHP too, so you're talking 750+ at the crank (maybe less, I'm not sure of the drive train losses on a Vette at those power levels). Get some engine work done and up the boost and I could see 725+ RWHP coming out of that setup. You're going to have to get some damn good tires and maybe a little extra on the suspension in order to be able to get all that power to the pavement! I know some of the best PCM calibration tuners in the industry (I used to be involved in that industry) so for about $500 extra for a dyno session you can really optimize the hardware. Friend of mine.... 650+ HP Vettes are pretty common for him to tune.
In my case, with my own tuning, long tubes and about 8lbs boost (Roushcharger has 6.5 lbs stock) I took the RWHP from about 330 to over 400. Tune alone without added boost and long tubes was a 40 RWHP gain.

Suspension, wheels and tires are all part of the conversion!

How about a Corvette ZR1 and with some Lingenfelter upgrades?

It's probably going to be a Vette and after seeing that 6K mod for the ZR1 turn 141 in the 1/4 all I can say is wow!!!

Re: New Car, What to Buy?
$150k budget? Sheesh... down payment on a house there guy! ;) Is your company hiring? :D
If it were me and had that much to blow on a car, I'd be checking out the Audi R8. Or get 2 or 3 $50-75k cars!
But given your choices, I'd go for the Vette. You'll have enough left over for a few LI Quad HPs to put all over the car to make it 2000% stealth. ;)

I'm actually probably going to retire, let's just say I made a really good investment a few years back!!!:D

Re: New Car, What to Buy?
2009-2011 Corvette ZR1 | ZR700 & ZR750 Upgrades | Hennessey Performance - Corvette ZR750
Maybe consider looking into that? I don't know the pricing, that would be something for you to call and ask.

Is bang for the buck a big consideration or not?

Yes, it's 95% certain to be the Vette (ZR1 or Z06), I just want to make sure I'm not missing something and go 6 months later, Duh I could have had a V-8!!!
It's just hard to be a Vette for the money, but I am going to look at the R8 and the Porsches.
I'm still a few months away from making a decision, but I want to start the research project.

Regardless what you pick, it must have optimal jammer placement.
-
Re: New Car, What to Buy?
Ditto on the R8. Maybe get a Nissan GTR spec V. Personally, I'd get a E92 M3 and spend some money on it.
-
Re: New Car, What to Buy?
Stay away from the Nissan GTR. If you use launch mode Nissan won't replace the $20,000 transmission...
Audi R8 V10 are damn nice if you want to go the flashy route. Corvette ZR1 with upgrades is the best bang for the buck though, if you want to eat every supercar alive. :D

Definitely worth your consideration.

nissan GT-R i guess
kinda hard to name a car for you since you already got the vette what else do you need? haha

Re: New Car, What to Buy?
The CentiMark Mustang continues to rewrite the record books while surpassing all previously established standards of performance! Primarily built to compete in the “Production” classification for Land Speed Racing, the rules are very restrictive with regards to aerodynamic modifications. The body must remain completely stock, with no additional wings, spoilers or splitters that were not original equipment from the dealership. These factors become very relevant and limiting at speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour.
Owned and driven by veteran driver Steve Benyo, the CentiMark Mustang holds the C/Production Supercharged World Land Speed Record of 232.27, set in August of 2008 at the fabled Bonneville Salt Flats. The average speed for the fifth mile of the record setting run was 238.44 mph, making this “The World’s Fastest Production Mustang.”
A friend of mine tells me this is his buddies car I believe he said it still has the Terminator motor (4.6) with a few extra mods.
Just think what you can do with a 720 hp Shelby Super Snake.

Re: New Car, What to Buy?
I would give the R8 and the ZR1 serious consideration. One car that's often overlooked but that is an absolute monster is the Ford GT. It'll be my first super car.

Re: New Car, What to Buy?
As far as track cars go...
(Newest) 2nd Gen 997 GT3-RS
or
GTR / GTR Spec V (Unsure on pricing or US Availability on Spec V)
or
ZR1
or
R8 V10
Allow me to shed the light of Jeremy Clarkson onto this debate.
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4CPBfpnye0]YouTube - Corvette ZR1 vs Audi R8 - Top Gear - BBC[/ame]
In short (summary of the video): R8 v10, more manageable on the track / livable day to day and the ZR1, complete insanity, super fast car, much more difficult to drive.
If it was me going to buy a car to use with the thought in mind that I was going to use it on the track....GT3 RS (Newest).
Good Luck
-Ryan
P.S. I envy you :)
