Do i need a new radar

I bought the Pro 58 several years ago from radar roy.

I was wondering is it out dated now?

are there new radars out that it can't detect?

should i get a new detector?

i've been happy with it so far, i think.

what do you guys think?

its definately outdated, although it detects all bands of radar in use currently - x,k, and ka. you should upgrade

the best one for value. i have a small budget

for a small budget either a refurb escort 8500 or a whistler pro-78se. both can be puchased for around 150. the refurb 8500s can be purchased on es corts ebay store.

would you recommend that over the bell 955?

performance wise i think they both have the s7 antenna and i think some of the 955s have the m4 which everyone says was a downgrade from the s7. so if you go with the 8500 it will be an s7 for sure

If you liked the Pro58 you may want to try the Pro68SE as you can find them reasonably priced and you will have better Ka band and better laser as well as 3 filter options to cut down on some falsing due to other radar detectors.

If you want to move up to a text display with voice ans a host of other features, there is the 78SE, 690SE, and a couple of Bel models that are $200 or less.

Check out the manufacturers websites to compare features.

so you're saying escort 8500 (non x50) vs the Pro 78se, I should go with the 78se?

Perfectly said, I use to recommend a Bel for a budget detector, but I hate that M4 antenna over hills and around curves. If your looking to spend $200 then follow his advice, if your looking to spend over that get a Redline.

I would get the Pro 68SE. It has a solid platform and very good Ka detection.

i picked up a pro78se.

from what i was reading i read it was just a better version of the 68se that everyone was recommending.

performance wise, is the pro 68se equivalent to the pro78se/xtr-690se/xtr-695se? I noticed on the Whistler website that it didn't have KA-max so I was thinking "no", but decided to ask anyways.

The 68SE does NOT have Ka-max mode.
I'd expect similar radar performance of the Pro non-Ka 695, 690, 78.
I've got the older Pro695 and its no slouch. Not sure if the Pro 68SE has the enhanced laser detection of the Ka-max models.
