ROFL! What amuses me is that it uses the EXACT SAME remote control that my home security cameras use!
I have a Plate Flipper, but I never did install it. I wish the one-way glass covers were cheaper and better than what is currently available. There's really very little use for these things though. Use it for tolls or RLCs and the cops will make it their personal mission to screw you hardcore like the Monkey Man. But they're good for keeping a-holes from calling your LP into the cops when they think you are driving too fast.
It would be best if the little roll-down shade had a fake plate number printed on it instead of being just black. Let the smug little bastards call the cops; they'll actually be snitching on the mayor (or whichever politician is responsible for all the under-posted speed limits in your town). :p
Yeah, that is what I had planned for my Plate Flipper. Had a fake plate directly behind the real one, so they had something to call in. The fake plate came back to a car of the same year and make too, hehe.
Yea, I wouldn't use it at red lights, too risky. You can have cops sitting anywhere. I don't run red lights anyway. Toll booths are somewhat better, as far as the risk factor goes. Just check your rear views and look to the side for possible cops. I never really understood the whole calling in the plate thing. If someone calls it in, they could just make it up, because you have a nicer car :p. So I don't see how them giving your plate vs. them saying there's a black Acura TL speeding changes the game any. I wouldn't think the cop could pull you over for speeding without something concrete such as a radar/laser reading or him/her seeing you fly by. If a cop was sent out to catch you, he would either be shooting radar or laser a couple miles ahead of your last known location, in my opinion. That's where CMs come in :)
That's pretty cool. I wonder if it comes in a non-UK version though...I don't think a US plate would fit in that.
I also wonder the range of the remote - in real world use you wouldn't be pointing the remote directly at the plate hider, plus you'd be a few more feet away.
I couldn't tell you the site because I can't remember it at the moment but I once saw a company that made replica plates - anything you wanted on them, for any US state. They looked IDENTICAL to the real plate, except it was plastic as opposed to metal. They said it was totally legal to use...but...heh. It might be the same company you're referring to.
They do versions for almost every country, including the US. I think the range is either 25m or 30, I can't remember. But its at least 25.
I occasionally listen to the CHP frequencies on my scanner, and I hear a lot of plates being called in, but only rarely do I hear an officer following up on the report. One report that was followed up on was a bunch of GTOs travelling down I-5 at a high rate of speed. An officer actually intercepted them and reported in that they weren't going all that fast. I don't think he pulled any of them over.
Of course, this is California, where nightmare traffic and miniscule budgets make traffic enforcement a pretty rare occurrence compared to some other places. I'm sure my plate has been called in a few times e.g. by some uptight old LLB who failed to prevent me from passing him, and yet I've never been pulled over because of such a report.
It would be nice to have an interface to the 9500xi/ci so it could be automated. I suppose it could be interfaced to other GPS units as well. That way the plate is obscured only for as long as necessary.

Okay, i know you guys like this for the obvious stealth reasons, I believe these are designed for public type people who can park their car and block the plate so some idiot does not know it is their car. Unless you some public people driving a flashy car then everyone knows it is you.
Over, using a LCD over the plate would work better, it is would be instantaneous.
Too. As in "too much".
In the history of this forum, for all the talk there has been about those, a grand total of ONE member has actually successfully purchased one. It was such a cheap piece of ugly crap -- held on by velcro -- that he sent it back. In Texas it'd get you arrested, even if it weren't activated.
.
If anyone ever finds a reliable source for a PROFESSIONALLY constructed LCD plate cover that doesn't cost as much as an LI, hopefully we'll hear about it here. But I ain't holding my breath.
I've got a surprise going on my car very soon - check out the Tric plate, its expensive butbby far the best stealth plate available!
Exactly. I just can't see getting $550 worth of use out of it. Jammers and RDs pay for themselves with one or two saves. This thing won't give you any saves, unless you are intentionally busting intersections. And if you are doing that often enough to need a plate hider, you're gonna get busted before you rack up $550 in RLC saves. Then there's the whole issue of so many states outlawing ANY kind of cover, clear or not, that they tend to draw too many fishing expedition stops, especially if you're DWB.
Yeah I agree...it's a cool idea and it looks sweet from the videos I saw, but it doesn't have much real-world value to it.
A smart officer can notice it and pull you over, and while it may not specifically be against the law, you're not using your state-issued plate...at the minimum in PA, it would probably qualify as obscuring your plate which is a fine of about $185...at the max, using counterfeit plates which is a 1st degree misdemeanor and will take you to county lockup...
It looks so real that I guess you might be able to get away with it, but the brightness of the screen and (what looks to be) the thickness of it might gain a little bit of attention.
Ain't that the truth!! I'm using it for a few other reasons like when I'm at the street races, I don't want people knowing my license plate number. Same for car shows and maybe the occasional flyby on the highway, calling in may not be too useful without a license plate number, especially at night in a stealth mobile.
Has anybody tried one of these yet. I see that the current price is under $200 now for both plates. I know there has been allot of discussion if they are worth the $. In playing around with my LTI gun and the other current LADIR guns, cars with out front license plates are much harder to get a reading on than car's with front plates. I am not saying a LEO can not get your speed, only you have to be closer to get a speed reading. With my LTI I could get readings up to 4000' on cars with front plates and less than 1800' with no front plates. So if you had a front plate hider with or without you Laser Countermeasures, it would give you a chance to get in compliance when shot at long range like the Ohio SP seem to do when driving on Toll-Way. The other thing I wonder is if the front plate increases you radar detection range since it typically mounted vertical and makes for a great flat surface to bounce radar back to LEO. Inquiring minds would like to know?
I could see it freezing up in cold weather, plugged with ice and snow.
