ZR3 testing and save in same day, alignment is everything
Special thanks to sam45 for testing my set up today. When we first started I was PT at 1500ft, especially by the headlights. With my Tahoe I figured that it never work. But as with all zr3/4 the alignment is crucial. So after getting the heads level and moving the rear head to the front I was JTG 3/4 runs with the last run a PT at 78ft! The last run is in the video below. It looks like he finally got a reading wear the chrome wraps around on the side.

Later while coming home on the northway I got a laser save! was doing about 90 when the zr3 alerted. I hit the brakes and move from the left to middle lane, but he was still hitting me. So I finally killed it. Needless to say, I didn't get pulled over.
Thanks again sam45!

Pretty good results for a ZR3.
Always kill the jammer once you get to PSL and let them get a speed reading. JTG on a LEO is a very bad thing!!!

Re: ZR3 testing and save in same day, alignment is everything
Nice to meet you Rob.
Our Test course was flat and about 2400 feet long. Edit: I also used a tripod.
When we first started I could get PTs from 1100 to 1500 feet pretty easy. anything under 1200 Feet was instant - I could get the outside of the headlights at will.
We leveled out the heads, moved them out under the headlights and added the rear head to the front plate.
PTs were moved down to sub 130 feet or so on the next 4 runs with 2 or 3 JTGs, so we figured protection was fairly good for a vehicle that size.
Placement and coverage is everything....
I know Escort states not to use the rear head on the front, but protection was certainly better with it. You just cannot get adequate coverage on that vehice with just 2 heads - either the lights or the plate/center mass is not covered.
I am not signing up to facebookto view that video :)

Re: ZR3 testing and save in same day, alignment is everything
Sorry about the video, I changed the privacy settings so everyone can see it now.
I should also add that the LIDAR gun was a Laser Atlanta. I would also like to test my set up against an LTI because I see that used so often in Albany. But with the save coming home on the throughway in Albany that night, I guess I can say it works pretty well against LTI also.

Come down this way, i got an itchy trigger finger! :D

nice!! and alignment is critical for best performance. maby some veil? i had the zr3's then they were giving me error light then moved on to the li's

Re: ZR3 testing and save in same day, alignment is everything
yes, I am definitely veiling the headlights and getting a laser shield for the front plate. I might also go extreme and paint/tape the chrome. Do you know of any kind of temporary paint I could use, or a very non-reflective masking tape I could use? If you could direct me to any threads where someone tried to reduce the reflectivity of chrome, that would be a big help.

Veil the Chrome.
If you sand the chrome well you could always plastidip it black or gray.

Ahh, that explains alot. The ZR3s do well against the LA as long as the LA isn't in Stealth mode.

I'm glad you got good results against the Laser Atlanta but I wouldn't be expecting the same results against the Ultralyte. From my testing, the Ultralyte eats thru the ZR3/4 regardless of car color, size, or reflectivity. One time, I tested a vehicle that was equipped with not one but two ZR4 laser shifter systems (had a total of five jammer heads on the front) and I was still able to get punchthrough over 500 ft on both center mass and headlights:

Re: ZR3 testing and save in same day, alignment is everything
Samq45: the key word is "temprorary" I don't want to hurt the resale value. I will try vieling everything. I am also going to open up that LPP head you kindly gave me. I am itchin to mod my zr3s pretty bad right now. I don't think the extra head idea I had will work though, look to my other thread "mem-tek mods to zr4", I think I will have to put the laser diode inside the zr3 head.
Snoop: totally agree about the ultralyte. But what is being used in Albany is the LTI truspeed, which I hear is pretty easy to jam, hence the save on the way home. Samq45 tells me that the LA is used in CT, which I frequent also. So I should be able to jam those 2 pretty well.

If the LTI Truspeed and Laser Atlanta are the two primary guns in your area, then the ZR3s should do well in most encounters except "ambush style shots":

Note: the test vehicle in the above video was a black GTO with veil on the headlights and license plate. Also, the license plate had a plate cover to reduce it's reflectivity.

It doesn't matter what CM you're running for Lidar, that new orange plate is what's creating an invisible force field around your front end.

lol, cheep a$$ NY.
RobInAlbany, good to here your ZR3's do the job for you. I'm happy using my ZR4's in CT, had a few saves my self.

Re: ZR3 testing and save in same day, alignment is everything
I'm lovin the retro style plates in NY! got them first thing when I moved from CT. You gotta run your front plate in NY though. I got a neighbor who was running with no front plate, I saw him get pulled over right outside our complex. Now he's got his front plate on.

Re: ZR3 testing and save in same day, alignment is everything
Yeah I'm in Utica myself. Not running a front plate in NY is a big no-no, as is no plate covers, clear or colored. I'm honestly not a big fan of the new plates, especially considering they cost extra.

Re: ZR3 testing and save in same day, alignment is everything
CT requires a front plate as well now.

I've been running laser shield plate covers on all my cars for years and have never been hasseled. Just went thru a registration check point last week and not a second look. And I've heard from a very credible source that they make it more difficult for the plate readers to get a lock and i can't tell you how many times I've seen them on cruisers going by.
-
Re: ZR3 testing and save in same day, alignment is everything
Yeah I too have heard that that's why they don't want plate covers, since it does interfere with the readers. With that being said, I've never personally talked to anybody that was ticketed for having a cover. It was mentioned to me by a LEO in passing conversation. I imagine it's kinda like driving with a license plate light or 3rd brake light out; sure it's technically illegal and the chances of being pulled over for such an offense are slim to none, but I'd rather attract the least amount of attention as possible. The LEO probably fishing for other offenses, absolutely, but I have been pulled over and ticketed for a rear plate light out, so I've lived and learned.

Re: ZR3 testing and save in same day, alignment is everything
I was pulled over for having a plate cover, and just before he went back to his car to wright up the ticket i offered to take it off right then and there. He said sure, i never had anyone offer to take it off before. No ticket, impressed the LEO, and went on my merry way.
