Can/Am Jammerfest 2011 results (FINALLY!!!)
A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out last Saturday to participate in the Can/Am Jammerfest. It STILL took all day, but we learned quite a bit about our respective setups!!!
After many hours of disseminating all the data, here it is in all its glory:
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...1results-1.png
Veil Guy's results are posted as so: ZR4/M37.
There were a few people who were not able to stay all day (jamminx and chriskohtc). I did not bother posting the rear results for Veil Guy because they were not good at all - even by his admission. We were clocking him at ALL distances with each gun.
With regards to Veil Guy, we started our testing with the SpeedLaser R. After a few bad readings, he put a couple of Veiled plate covers on his car. The results posted were the result of having the 2 plate covers on his Beemer.
As well, the SpeedLaser R got JA-3 codes almost immediately with all jammers. Even DANDELIONS threw a JA-3 code! :confused::confused::confused:
We noticed that during the course of testing, spankyaf was getting outrageously high PT's in front. We tried plate covers with Veil on them, as well as having him crouch down more. That brought his numbers down considerably.
Re: Can/Am Jammerfest 2011 results (FINALLY!!!)
Thanks for all the hard work guys. I love reading this stuff.
Re: Can/Am Jammerfest 2011 results (FINALLY!!!)
Excellent work!
Edit: Do you have The Veil Guy's before Veil results? I think before Veil and after Veil results would be valuable information.

Ouch! lol
Re: Can/Am Jammerfest 2011 results (FINALLY!!!)
Thanks Vic for all your hard work. In addition to Dandelions throwing the JA 3 code on the LA R, I shot approximately 8 vehicles that weren't part of our group. They happened to be passing by when I had the LA R in my hand. Each vehicle I shot with the LA R, I was able to get the JA 3 code from those cars / trucks as well. I feel more confident that the LA R falses that code A LOT!!!! Forgot to mention, the JA-3 showed up a lot after the LA R had a few hours of use on it first.
Re: Can/Am Jammerfest 2011 results (FINALLY!!!)
Noticed the anti-laser G9 didnt do a bad job. Was that dual heads on the front or single?
Re: Can/Am Jammerfest 2011 results (FINALLY!!!)
Great stuff guys this is what it is all about, unbiased testing at its best. We need more enthusiasts taking the time and money to perform tests like this!
Re: Can/Am Jammerfest 2011 results (FINALLY!!!)
Great job guys, as always, and what a fun day it was. Great seeing some of y'all again!
I am recalling that not one laser jammer was able to detect and jam Laser Atlanta's new stealth mode and only a couple of detectors that were there were even able to detect it, if only briefly.
But, I am also pleased that Veil knocked about ~40-60 percent off its range, if I recall correctly.
This continues to reinforce my notion that as more and more of these guns come up with "exotic" ways to defeat active laser jammers, that Veil will do its job regardless of their algorithms and pulse rates, since we are absorbing their pulses (not trying to actively interfere with them as jammers do).
If I recall the numbers correctly, Spankyaf's cycle dropped from ~800s' PTs with his LI to about ~400s' PT with what was effectively his headlights and then, I believe, down to low ~200s' PT with tape off side directional indicators (simulating Veil) followed by low 100s' PT when crouching and obscuring his silver jacket.
IMO, anything under ~200-250' at decent speed is effectively JTG, so I feel mission accomplished. Keep in mind, 60mph equates to about 88 feet per second and 78mph approximately 114 fps.
Perhaps, Vic, you have those numbers. In any event, I was very surprised to see such high PTs with a jammer only (especially an LI) on just a motorcycle.
The Blinders appear to do quite a bit better than the older M20's that I had on my Bimmer, but for all of the knocking the ZR4 gets, I was quite pleased with its results as well (both jammers run with Veil, of course). Especially since my metallic silver Bimmer presents a difficult mounting challenge for any laser jammer as the heads have to be mounted low.
Also, with respect to the Blinders, the rear head seemed to have some "issues," sometimes not detecting or alerting at all, especially with the LTI 100LR. Something, I believe, is not right. In my distant memory, I believed, my older Blinders struggled with this same kind of LTI gun, but again in this case, it appeared to only be the single rear head.
Now that I've got several sets of results from two different testing groups and testing conditions, I am going to add the LIs into the mix (since they settled with Blinder). Can't wait to see how they do on my vehicle. I was impressed with their handling and alerting nature (seems to be quite an improvement over the Blinders).
Had a h3ll of an experience on the way on with NYSP. But that's another story.
...Always a learning experience at these events! And there were some REALLY nice cars there.
Re: Can/Am Jammerfest 2011 results (FINALLY!!!)
Ok, I give. I can't figure out PT or JTF (I have been trying for some time now). I'm assuming x means there was no reading, or does it mean it didn't jam at all? If so, what's the difference between x and jam to gun?

PT = Punchthrough
x = Not Tested
JTG = Jam To Gun
JFG = Jam From Gun
JTF = Means nothing, but I don't see any JTFs anywhere
Re: Can/Am Jammerfest 2011 results (FINALLY!!!)
The ALG9 RX was a dual head. I would never even consider single head operation on such a wide car, especially against threats like the Truspeed.
Thanks againt to everyone that attended! It was lots of fun and definately worth the drive! :)

I was going to ask about the riders clothing choice............. Any reflective material will result in high PT's
Re: Can/Am Jammerfest 2011 results (FINALLY!!!)
I have to admit that I thought the LIs would do away with any reflectivity concerns .... currently Veiling my lites and shopping for a black mesh jacket

I'm guessing that a lack of mounting options are the reason for the single sensor? Two sensors reasonably spaced would surely do the trick.

There was barely space for the ONE head!
Re: Can/Am Jammerfest 2011 results (FINALLY!!!)
Two heads on a bike, one front, one back. Veil everything reflective. Low reflective, dark wear = extreme stealth. More heads doesn't mean better jamming
necessarily just like dual diode heads don't necessarily translate to noticeably improved jamming performance. Translation: you are absolutely doing the right thing. :)

Agreed. If spankyaf was able to space two sensors out for better coverage/detection, then he would get better jamming capabilities. A single LI sensor is plenty powerful to cover a motorcycle. He doesn't need a second laser diode, but a second laser sensor, properly spaced, would help a lot. But, as Victor explained, there is no place to put the second sensor, so Veil and less reflective attire is the best option in this case. I've only shot one motorcycle and the helmet made for easy punchthroughs, all day long.
Edit: Motorcycles might make perfect candidates for Laser Tamers, should they ever hit the market.
Re: Can/Am Jammerfest 2011 results (FINALLY!!!)
Strap a LI to your helmet lol?
Re: Can/Am Jammerfest 2011 results (FINALLY!!!)
Yup ... Im guessing that since the Truspeed gun has a stacked arrangement of the lenses it has a taller beam pattern than others so its getting on my jacket more. Alot of my gear has reflective stripes on it for night time safety so its probably not helping my overall stealth profile. I also suspect that my heads are not perfectly level or straight given the challenging mounting surface
Re: Can/Am Jammerfest 2011 results (FINALLY!!!)
By the way Martha keeps asking me when we're coming back to the next Jammerfest event .... apparently us guys were very entertaining. I think Im being mocked
Re: Can/Am Jammerfest 2011 results (FINALLY!!!)
Great tests! The ZR4 + Veil combo is impressive, especially (as said) as much as it is knocked!!! The ZR4 + Veil is one of the most economical ways of getting reliable LIDAR protection and this indicates that Veil really boosts the performance of the ZR4, especially in regards to the guns which it has historically struggled with. What year is your ZR4?
