Re: 9500ix discrete usage.
Don't use a visor clip. Just mount your RD high by the mirror and hardwire it to your fusebox.
Re: 9500ix discrete usage.
Welcome. Do not worry about a Leo seeing your RD until you get asked to the blue light dance, then remove it asp before getting a ticket. Above the RVM or mount high around the tint strip to hide from eyes. If you want to make something to hide the RD in and put on the dash is good but keep the front view of the RD clear forward, like a small tissue box.....
Re: 9500ix discrete usage.
cops dont pull people over for radar detectors, they got bigger and better tickets to give.
chances are they see it, they won't care because there's plenty of people without them who they can easily catch for speeding.
as long as you drive safely around the police officer, lights, tags and everything else is up to par you can just pass on by. most cops really don't care, and a large majority of cops think radar detectors a joke (how many people have they pulled over with cobras on the dash vs. people with top shelf ones)
i agree with dash mounting, hardwire and a tissue box without a bottom. need to hide it? just put the tissue box OVER it.
Re: 9500ix discrete usage.
I drive a pickup and have always had my rd's on the dash. I don't know if the Tahoe has a flatter space to put your rd in?? My pickup is an 11 Silverado. I also run my display in the scanning dot and the meter in expert mode. (Mine is a Redline) It keeps the light show to a minimum, especially at night.
Re: 9500ix discrete usage.
Mine is mounted above my rear view mirror and hardwired in.
Judging from your screen name I will add that I painfully and personally know that the Mississippi highway patrol does care if you have a radar detector.
Hope this helps,

Question? What issues does the MSHP have with RDs? Did you get nailed with I/O and ticketed and leave your RD up?
Re: 9500ix discrete usage.
I have no actual experience with this but I would be willing to bet a lot that if you get pulled over and have a radar detector in plain sight for an officer to see, any leniency or the chance of not getting a ticket is gonna go straight out the window.
The few times I did get pulled over my with detector, I quickly unplugged it, put it away, and tucked the cord so he couldn't see it. Before it was hard-wired, I'd take off the windshiled mount as well, leaving no evidence. Now there is a very subtle non-noticeable mount on the upper right hand of my rear view mirror, and I leave that there, but remove the detector like I said.

Re: 9500ix discrete usage.
My experience with the Mississippi Highway Patrol has usually been negative relative to speeding. What happened to you with MHP? Did they say something about your RD?

This day and age, er, economy? If my last experience was any example the LEO probably wouldn't even notice or care. He was in such a hurry to get back to his hiding spot to snag more motorists he practically handed me my citation through the window as he drove off...
Re: 9500ix discrete usage.
Be careful with the mounting because it still needs a clear line of sight with the sky for the GPS functions. What you may have to do is get an additional external antenna where it will have a clear view therefore u will be able to mount he RD in a great location. I personally like I as high as possible either above the rearview mirror or as high as possible i/f/o the driver. Remember, hardwiring is a must!! Good luck!
Re: 9500ix discrete usage.
Check out my profile picture. I have mine mounted high left. Very hard to see from the outside.
Re: 9500ix discrete usage.
Mine's mounted high and in the middle/left... hardwired of course.
I have actually already seen an LEO laugh at my my car because of the 41' whip on my trunk.
I doubt they'd give me a warning anyways...
