Re: Cobra Electronics’ New SPX Radar Line Features Double The Detection Range
Doubling next to nothing is still next to nothing. They don't say what range they doubled, X band on some units used to be about 700 feet - 1/5 the range of quality units in same test. They look unique and have some good ideas but not much for performance. I feel sad for the uninformed that purchase these units - however they do make for a dandy rabbit!

I feel sad for people that don't wait to see a product's performance before bashing it straight away.
Cobra's have upped their game quite a bit from their bad old days but I guess there are still a few people that haven't gotten the notice quite yet.
Drive using a rabbet and risk being a " two for ' just a friendly FYI. Seen MANY "rabbit caravans" busted :)

REALLY.. Now your bashing me like I'm the idiot!... Name one thing that I said that was not true and bashing in any way. Was just stating facts. And yes Cobra has upped their game a little but 9, 14, or 15 band detectors..C'mon!
Not sure if your being confrontational or what but it sure seems like it.

Re: Cobra Electronics’ New SPX Radar Line Features Double The Detection Range
I have yet to see ANY testing to show Cobra has stepped up there game,in fact the the most recent ECCTG test showed just the opposite.
As far as I am concerned they are still bottom dwellers even the with expensive Vendetta units.

"name on thing that isn't true and bashing in any way" Seriously :)
You remind me of the old white guy that says.. " I'm not a racist. I have nothing against them darkies" :D
well here you go.." Doubling next to nothing is still next to nothing"... and... " I feel sad for the uninformed that purchase these units - however they do make for a dandy rabbit! "
FYI both Radar ROY and Speedzones have said Cobra's are indeed improving.

HARDLY you say..Go ahead you smart-arse know it all .. PROVE me wrong in anything I said. So they are improving -I would certainly hope so! Everyone else is too. Give any uninformed person a RD that thinks they are protected, especially some young buck kid who thinks he is invincible and waa laa, a great rabbit.
I have said in many posts that Cobra had some really good ideas, even owned 3 of them back in the good ole 2 band days.
Your racist comment is totally out of line.
I could call you an argumentative know-it-all that very well could be a poser who just happened to read a book or two and makes up most of his experiences, but I wont because I have not proven it - but that is how you come across.

Wow Dude take a chill pill. Seriously... Want proof.. opening page 12
Am I really suppose to look into all your old posts just to find a small nicety or two that you said about the brand, MR. 18 band Cobra.. LOL!
I own 5 NEW Cobra models right now and bought them to see how bad they actually were. They are not half as bad as people say they are which was a big surprise.
Right now I am using one and have been pretty pleased with it so far.
Your the one coming on making statements that " double of nothing is still nothing.." which is bashing no matter how you look at it.
sorry it's just the truth no matter how you want to spin it your way
Hell the model isn't even out yet and your doing this!
amazing

Re: Cobra Electronics’ New SPX Radar Line Features Double The Detection Range
Here is a member's thread who is actually pleased with his cobra detector enough to write a continuing thread about his pleasant experiences with it.
http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...tectors-3.html
I know it's just amazing isn't it ! He just can't be telling the truth. He just has to work for the company ! LOL ! :)
I own this very same model he has, use it on a daily basis and have been pleasantly surprised with it's performance.

Re: Cobra Electronics’ New SPX Radar Line Features Double The Detection Range
As for Speedzone
Ramp up of a RD has absolutely nothing to do with sensitivity! But you knew that already I'm sure.
Hey, if your happy I'm happy, that's the nice kind of guy that I am - I just thought you would be sportin a STiR or V1.
I' ve got little time for this nonsense - Let me know how these New units perform once they come out
-
Re: Cobra Electronics’ New SPX Radar Line Features Double The Detection Range
A interesting discussion to say the least,
speedzones goes into great length on max sensitivity / ramp up unlike any other people who test detectors I know of.
and I believe they were one of the first to point out that a detector's signal strength meter has been often gamed to make detectors look better then they actually are
that's why they do a separate shorter range radar test
The site has done a further newer test I wasn't aware of on two detectors that weren't tested last time and one that was and I thank you for making me look their tests up once again. :)
apparently the v1 has a few rather large chinks in it's armor in the 33.8 and 35.5 ranges but I believe people who own one are aware of this already from the postings I have seen.
The new Whistler AXIS was retested as requested by the company and performed better then the earlier test
unfortunately this detector is on hold right now till legal issues on it's gps system are resolved ;(

Re: Cobra Electronics’ New SPX Radar Line Features Double The Detection Range
Just read Radar Roys article about the Vedetta and Cobra marketing scheme from your recommended review - huh, who would a thought?
Back to original post comment,
Go look at radartest.com review of I Rad 100- Awesome range - NOT. So you see if they double range and dont say which unit, like Irad 100 then it still is not much. Now if you double range of Vedetta in same test you have a unit that is the best the world has ever seen. Now lets be realistic what do you think it will be!
Just sayin'

one of the guys here did a pretty good job of obliterating his argument.
Sorry Roy but it's the truth :)
I / tard / radar ? Blah ! :)
actually in your primary forum a user showed that he got fairly good radar reception with one of those older devices.
I could care less about it actually. It counts on a community of users to alert you but what if these users aren't around?. I believe there are cell phone apps that are much better.
There also appears to be a brand new Cobra radar detector that cover this silly nonsense coming out.
but why bother to wait when you can look into your crystal ball and tell how it works already can't you? :D

1. I don't need a crystal ball to see the obvious.
2. First you use Roy as a source then you say he doesn't know diddly - which one is it sunshine!
3. I don't care if you care about the IRad's it was to show you that their performance varies, and when they say they are improving performance of a unit but do not say which of their MANY versions they are comparing it to then there is no base line to go by.
4. Opinions of someone that says their RD performs fairly well are useless unless there is another RD of known kind to validate the performance.
5. If Speedzone had to redo their test and got different results then how good is their credibility on the first test?
6. The ECCTG test that you are not impressed with is about the most accurate recent real world, non-biased test of current detectors you can currently find - like it or not. If you disagree then collect a dozen detectors, radar guns, and many hours of your own time and do your own, then publish the results for everyone to see free of charge.
7. V1 has upped their performance with V1 connection and is probably the best in range and quickness of any current RD in any radar band - almost proven.
8. RD fanatics that are truly into all out-performance do not have Cobra's.
9. Every post you have for rebuttal is just a bunch of blah, blah, blah, and never really PROVE your point or address the point in clarity.
10. I can't believe I'm wasting my time debating this with you.
11. When these SPX units come out and are world class RD's then send me a message and I will apologize - I'll be waiting until..like NEVER!
12. I could go on and ,but I won't.

1) you must have a crystal ball because you can see things that haven't happened yet. Maybe your a witch ? :)
2.) your quoting a Craig Peterson test ? We both know you guys over there consider him absolute dirt and have said quite often so you should talk. LOL!
you know the old pot/kettle thing ;)
3.) I really don't understand this part, as it's pretty convoluted all in all but I do know there is a brand new detector called the atom coming out that is suppose to do the same thing and it's got a different FCC id so it must be a different platform from I/radar. They claim it's a much more sensitive detector which it no doubt is. I will wait to see how good it is when it comes out and may buy one just to test it's radar sensitivity.
4.) Again, I really don't understand this ? " of a known kind ? " A known kind of what and by whom? That amateurish testing group ? I'll pass.
5.) speed/zones did this redo on request of whistler.
Whistler no doubt gave them a pre-production model, as was said on the report, entered to get it into this particular test on time. Obviously the kinks weren't all worked out.
It's actually a very common thing for manufacturer's to do. Ask for a retest when they finally are. Happens in car testing too. You didn't know this seriously ?
well now you know
6.) Non-biased hmm.
Says you.
I guess if one claims something is non-biased then that makes it so.
Kind of like Honest Abe's used car lot.
Why do you suppose actual REAL RD testers, you know the kind that do this stuff for a living, spend thousands and thousands of dollars to go to the desert and test detectors there ?
For their health? The air ? The nice flat scenery ? Why do they bother to use actual professionally trained radar patrol police officers in these tests ? Why is the site testers all trained in radar operation by the companies that produce the radars and offer classes in it's operation?
why do you suppose they have all the rd manufacturers in attendance to check that their equipment is being used properly ?
Maybe they are all in cahoots and it's a big conspiracy and they pick the winners of test beforehand !
Ya, that's it ! Why didn't I see it sooner :)
7.) The testers at speed/zones no doubt tested the newest v1 version I am sure.
8.) All out performance ? That maybe true to the naive. It's a illusion. Frankly, I have seen more then a few "all out performance drivers' say they have got caught multiple times with their uber expensive rd's set ups.
They are under the illusion the detector makes the driver.
It doesn't.
Never has.
Many fast drivers that know their stuff never used detectors and are ticket free.
RD's are just a tool.
Give you a bit of a analogy here I HOPE you will understand.
IN WW2 the germans were behind in fighter development and had to keep using the Me-109 even though it was designed in the thirties and very inferior to the mustang in speed and other important criteria.
experienced Luftwaffe me-109 pilots that knew their stuff STILL beat Mustang pilots on a regular basis.
Until the german oil and gas installations were destroyed
wonder why?
then the Luftwaffe got jets that could run on still available kerosene
they put many a inexperienced pilot in that jet counting on it's speed and new uber features to win the day.
it didn't.
Many a mustang pilot shot down a me-262 in fact.
get the picture yet?
9.) Ad hominem attack
and easily dis-proven
I gave you two professional testers to prove my point, one of which did a extensive test with numerous detectors in comparison and you completely dismissed them.
10.) neither can I but that's your choice
believe me I know the feeling :)
but your just so darn right about everything all the time you have to teach people like me a lesson that you are !
I completely understand your Highness :D
11.) and I am absolutely sure even if that unit comes out and has range to the moon you will still have problems with it somehow. :)
Seen it before
Uber RD owners have to have some kind of excuse when their over priced trophies don't perform as they quite expect.
12.) Thank god for small miracles

Once again blah. blah, blah. Analogies but no PROOF, and just like you said - you don't understand!
You are the most dense headed, argumentative, condescending person I have ever dealt with in these forums. So get a job, move out of mommy's house, and visit the real world for a while - your acting just like my teenagers.
This is my last post on this subject, so go ahead and have your last say, I notice you always do, must make you feel better.
Good Day

No surprise here

I love the new Cobra! It out performs any RD ever! Who can trust that other forum test? Ha! The Cobra even beats my V1! Better than the PMI that cleans the air! Oh! Oh! OMG! I have a temperature of 109 degrees!.....
