little disappointed

used rx65 for few days but it wasnt something like what i expected so i ordered a V1,
40mile drive disappointments:
- 2 laser falses
- picks up other detectors with either K or X band warning...... in A mode
- takes some time to get used to
- in the city it goes nuts 5 boges around stores ;)
- little hard to distinguish which band it is at night for new owners
- sound tones were better in rx

gonna take it to work tmw 100miles both ways we ll see how it performs, all i know is in few mintues X band is gonna be turned off its driving me nuts.... dont think i got any x band cops in chicago and sub,

It is a change. Give it some time to see how you like it.

Welcome to the board Adrian. I had a 65 also, sold it for a V1. If you shut X off you will be a whole lot happier man!! That's the way I run mine. I drive from Bloomington to Chicago every week, 0 tickets...even had laser hits. 8)

Dave! I have a friend that goes to bloomington, and i've been there on several occations.

Carmel (a bit north) uses X. I was on my way to a hockey game when I found this one out

i used to own a bel express 925. fortunately, beltronics uses the same band tone across all of their products...but i really must say, beltronics does a better job distinguishing Ka from K.

i'm in chicago. i've turned off X and POP. now all i need to worry about is K falsing.
i also have Ku turned on at the moment. i'm hoping i could catch a glimpse of a Ku false and figure out what the band sounds like..

Run it in Logic mode---little l

It will tame the X band some and still give you good range if you encounter a real X

It sounds exactly like K band only difference is visual as the dismal blinks.
Most of us have agreed that Ku should sound like a double X band, like Ka is a double K band.

My roommate hates the sounds of my v995 same as rx65...but he loves the V1 tones....He actually likes this detector versus my v995 the arrows are a feature he loves. He can tell where the cop is

LOL yea i call my v1 the false box for a reason even with x off my box goes mad nutz in the city Adv L doesnt mean crap to me here

my 3.826 is more quiet(false wise) than my v995

Yeah i agree with the sound thing. I have both and the Rx alerts for Laser and Ka really make you wake up and take notice. Prefer the rx for that, but they are 2 very different detectors as the v1 has things that I like. Usually the same things that are pointed out on the forum often. At the end of the day if you own either you are at the top end and they both do a great job!

Put in on L=Advanced Logic Mode and you will be VERY happy.

I plan on doing more testing today on my .826 before I post my feelings about it... but one thing I will say:

I have always found the tones on my X50 (When set to 'LOUD') much more distinguishable then the (my friends and now my) V1 tones... not 'louder'... but much more distinguishing between each band.

Does anyone remember way back... wasn't the original Escort in the early 80's the first detector to use different tones to differentiate between X and K band radar? And I think it too used 'beep' vs 'brap' sounds. A bit of V1's daddy shows in its voice.

Sounds as though you should take the suggestions of the others and perhaps ditch the X band and/or run in one of the logic modes. As for the bogey counter and arrows possibly going 'nuts' in the city around stores etc. that is true, the radar picture is pretty chaotic and no $400 device is going to sort out that mess, not even with duplexed receivers; in that circumstance the arrows and bogey counter can't do as much for you. It's when you get to where you're not downtown or driving past a bunch of stores that the V1 will shine and you'll really see what it can do. Remember that unfortunately, some non-police sources of signals are in the same bands and there's no way to distinguish them from genuine LEO radar / lidar.

You will learn though that often you can tell if you are picking up burglar alarms, door openers etc. with the V1 by virtue of the fact that the alarm indicates that the source is beside you, not ahead or behind. Loosely speaking those signals are false alarms because they aren't LEO radar, but if they are in the same exact frequency range then they're not really false. At least the V1's arrows will help you eliminate many of them as being of no concern.

I'm confused....

I read the complaints about excessive "falsing" with the V1, but then read that it is almost eliminated with the latest software version upgrade.

Is it true ? Are most of these complaints from people with a slightly older version, or has the number/amount of false indications merely "reduced" with the latest version ?

Tim, something you need to remember is that some "falses" are not really fair to V1. What I mean is a lot of motion sensors are operated on K band. So when I drive by my local Kroger Grocery store and it goes off, it's telling me it detects K band. Which it does. How can you blame V1 for that? It's doing what it's suppose to do. I will be the first one to admit that with X band on you will go nuts. But a number of us board members have discussed what should and shouldn't be a "false". Some of us propossed saying "non LEO (law enforcement officer) source.

I thought the V1 would have excess false alerts but really it's the equal to or less than my v995 even without k-band automute enabled on the V1!

You are right ! No way can you blame the V1 for doing what it is designed to do. It's impossible for it to distinguish between "sources" of the signal.

And I would also agree that I would MUCH rather have one a little more sensitive than less sensitive.

I read on an earlier post, that "one" of the reason the V1 "seems" to be prone to the so-called false alerts, is that the horn antennea is actually wider than the other RD's so picks up signals from a wider area. That's ALSO a good thing as far as I am concerned. It increases the chance of picking up a LEO from side streets and hiding places.

But it still remains that I have read several posts from people who stated that the newest version reduces false alerts. So which false alrts are they talking about?

Part of what they are talking about it the new J function. Which works on KA only. If the V1 doesn't recognize the radar pattern as a LEO source but rather a crappy detector (cobras are great for this) it will J out the altert so you know it's junk and cancells the alert. The early days of V1 didn't have this option.

Honestly my biggest complaint about the RX-65 is the alert tones. I swear they must have used surplus phone parts in it or something :lol:

Don't they use a plastic case also? I can't remember...

This is a common miscopnception on here.
Larger antenna = more gain, and more directional. Which would theoretically make it pick up less "off axis" radar [close in].

I wouldnt say so, I think it would be better for it to have more of a tunnel vision then a wide eye. I say this because radar can not register speed from the sides, so whats the point of catching an officer a mile back that is on a Y course, and you are on an X course.

Even then, tunnel vision would still alert, but not from such a distance, and it would cut back on detecting doors :)

I have only had mine for a week, and have driven maybe 150 miles with it. My V1 has falsed 4 times on Laser so far. And it does "false" more on radar than the RX65 or the X50, but this is due to higher sensitivity, having a rear antennae and lower alerting thresholds.

The settings I am currently running, I am very happy with. It creates kind of a K Band City Mode - something that I have always wanted in a RD.

Try these settings:
X Band off (if it is not used in your area)
POP off (if it is not used in your area)
Little "l" - Logic Mode
Ka alerts more responsive
30 second, 4 LED, K band muting

Let me know how you like this setup. :wink:

Hmmmm, I guess maybe the best way to describe it, is that in general a larger horn antenna has the effect of "concentrating" the radar beam more into one direction, making the beam smaller and more "dense" so it also increases gain. This might be a bit easier to relate to transmitters than receivers, but it works the same...

Here's a suggestion - try running it in something besides the "A" mode; that's why you're getting so many falses. All detectors false like crazy in their unfiltered modes.

AdrianPL I completely understand I am extremely dissapointed in the performance of my V1, I am downright ticked... VR better have the customer service people claim, because mine is... well here:

The polar plot of the antenna won't change, whether it is used to transmit or receive.

there is only 1 way to run the V1 in (A) Mode and that is when X band is turned OFF. You'll be picking up NASAs space transmissions to Pluto otherwise.. the thing wont shut up.

either run the V1 in (L) mode or (A) mode with X Off.

im not a fan of K band muting because you run the risk of getting nailed if you arent paying attention to the visual display.

There are in fact 3 basic modes on the V1, and it is highly recommended to get familiar with what they are and what mode you should be running in for a given environment... This will resolve the "falses" problems pretty much.

lost count after it pissed me off so badly that i turned it off hahaha more then 10 laser alerts from infinity fx hahahah that thing was going behind me for about 30 miles ;) but i give the lady some props she had a V1 too
still no chance to test it since it was raining, didnt feel like looking for a cop every time it went off running it in A mode is pretty good, except it occasionally picks up some other RDs with K band

p.s. Mitsubishi Diamante 02' im looking for the 'switched' wire on drivers side anyone ?

I thought so too, but then I had an encounter with FPD using instant-on K at night. The real K band threats are pretty strong, and it broke my 4 LED muting threshold very easily - and from a good distance away.

K band muting makes for a good "City Mode" for K. :wink:
