Police Forum - Radar Detectors

It's interesting to see that police officers forum and how they feel about radar detectors. :o I think it's kind of neat that there are a few active and retired police officers that decide to use an rd. Duputy, it's neat that you use different rd's. You rock deputy :D :D 8) . I just wish I could see a few more LEOS use rd's just for the fun of it. So some are laughing at our equipment saying it doesn't work, that's "their" opinion. They have the right to their opinion, WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO OUR OPINION! Sometime soon, I might be getting together w/ a LEO to do some testing w/ radar,laser,VG-2 and of course radar detectors. I think the guy even wants an rd.

proudNMAmember: It's funny but I feel more kinship and solidarity with the guys on this forum, than that so-called "police forum". I have ALWAYS been treated fairly and with respect by EVERYONE on here. I have learned much, and hopefully, have contributed back to the members here. I still think that many of the people on that police forum aren't really police. I just don't want to believe that LEOs could be that ignorant and juvenile. And trust me, more LEOs than you think use RDs. There are some police that do NOT give professional courtesy to fellow LEOs. For example, Wisconsin State Police are notorious for giving tickets to Chicago PD whenever a CPD tries whipping out his badge for a pass. :)
But WSP pretty much give every other LEO a pass. CPD has a rather nasty reputation among other departments in the Midwest, so that is part of the problem.
Anyway, just remember that not every LEO is an a-hole :wink:
Heck, Radar Roy is a perfect example of one of the "good guys" in the LEO community :D

When we have underposted speed limits, and the cops are turned into tax collectors, you can expect there will be some animosity toward the police. And many cops will admit, off the record, that they have been turned into tax collectors. Most cops I know don't even like working traffic.

works for fire fighters too. my uncle doesnt get speedin tickets and he drives really fast in his bronco. he got some huge ass engine put in it. He doesn't flash the badge tho when he gets pulled over. If a cop pulls him over and asks to see his licence, he has his wallet set up so that the officer sees his fire fighter badge when he takes out his licence.

That's interesting about the Wisconsin State Patrol and Chicago PD! Hmmm, I wonder what Indiana State Police do when they stop them? It probably depends on the trooper.

I cant remember if it was that particular police forum or another one, a bit drunk (and yes I am at home and not on the road). But it amazed me that a 'LEO' (which I can't believe he really was) didn't know if it was legal to have an RD in Alabama!!!!!!!!!!!! That is scary when a LEO doesn't know his own state laws, esp something like that. I can see if a LEO didn't know how far it took for something stuck out side the side window to be illegal, but dang, if you are a traffic cop, you should know if Rds are illegal.

I have a Police Explorer Card with my photo and County.

I wonder how I'm supposed to make a LEO see it when I give him my license.

Heh I could put the card on the back of my license and put a rubber band around it so the LEO has to see it when he takes it from me. Good idea?

Here is my take on that forum btw.

LEOs are good to have around, we need them. I know many good ones. Those on the forum were immature and shouldn't be on the force. They 'think they know' their stuff about RDs, when clearly they don't. How can one comment on something that he doesn't know about? Some said that they can get a lock on the driver before the RD goes off, that is BS and we know that. We can get their singals miles away. So that stuff said made me mad.

However, in all honesty, I can see why many of them feel that an RD is a thumb in their face. How many ppl here go the speed limit with an RD, other countermeasures, and smarts? I know that I don't. On the other hand, I am one of those that don't speed like heck either and I do enjoy my RD as entertainment. If it was purely for "breaking the law and speeding" why would we constantly swing around to see how close we have to get before we get a signal. It has become a hobby of mine, not a tool to just break the law.

I agree most LEO's are great people! They treat you like equals as it should be and if you do break the law, they have the right to enforce the laws, but all at their discretion. I look at the police the same way I look at the solider's over in Iraq, Police are fighting a war over here too. :D

I also think that sometimes we forget that police, teachers, and other public figures are human as we are.
