Police Forum - Radar Detectors

1. Many many folks buy RDs and what not to prevent getting speeding tickets. I'd even say that this group is a majority. So I can understand where that sentiment comes from.

2. Speed itself doesn't kill, but does aggravate the collision/accident even more. Higher the speed, more carnage. The previous statement holds true whether one is going over the limit or not. LEOs get to witness this a lot, so it is natural to develop sentiment against speeding. Then there's all these studies that have headline-like conclusions (i.e. Speed Kills, etc), it does tend to color one's vision after hearing it over and over. Some also call this propaganda.

3. LEOs catch lots of folks with RDs, I'd again be willing to wager that a lot of them have cheapos and most of them don't know how to use one effectively. War stories in PD lounge room supports this notion.

Result is what one finds in that forum/thread. It shouldn't bother you. After all, underestimating an 'opponent' is a flaw that an opponent can exploit.

The one that got to me was 'RDs indicate intent to speed'. Just like buying a gun indicates intent to kill. :roll: Buying a gun is intent to shoot (sometimes it's called murder, sometimes self-defense, sometimes a hunt, etc); Buying an RD is intent to become aware of radar/lidar activity (sometimes it's speeding, sometimes it's a sweet look at RD, etc).

Well said guys!!! The comment that made me laugh was "After about 5 or 6 times the guy ripped the RD off the window wire and all and threw it in his back seat."

I can just see myself spending $300-$500 on a radar detector and then tearing it off the window and throwing it in the back seat WHEN IT'S DOING IT'S JOB!!!!. What a load of BS!!! :lol:

That wouldnt happen with the V1...or any other detector, as long as you knew how to use it. Eventually, one would figure out it had to be a car behind you. Plus, Ka is music to my ears :P

Some of you should jump into the conversation on that website with me. It would be nice to have some support on my side of the arguement.

Don't argue with them. LEO's should be left with the impression that RD's and jammers don't work. :roll:

I am more argueing the right to own one then how much they actually work. And also, once you sign up it takes a day or so to be able to post, a mod has to physically add you so try again

Mirwin: No offense to you, and I appreciate you coming to the RD owner's defense, but the fact you are able to sign on to that forum proves my point about the majority of the people there NOT being in/from law enforcement. So their posts are pretty valueless. I would bet most of them are PC LEOs with SWAT games for a background, or they know someone who knows someone who has a brother that tells them "war stories". Best to just ignore them and leave them to their ignorant and fanciful bliss :wink:

Deputy, I know some of them are not LEO's however I am just stating my points as an obvious non-LEO, I don't really take much from what they are saying, the arguing is more fun then really important
